I really want to hear this with the tape saturation on but without the input cranked. I know what the distortion will sound like, but I want to hear what difference the tape sat alone makes

Rap demo was tight, she got skill. That's what I came for thinking if I could use it for my rap vocals. I think this would be a dope preamp to have. Gonna get this one.

I just wished warm audio build an all in one audio interface with WA-2A Compressor and WA73 Pre-Amps. All analogue, will buy in a heartbeat.

@@JacobDarkOfficial I think they are in a good position to mix different sound signature from different brands in an all in one unit. Really looking forward to it. May I ask why did you decide to get WA-2MPX over WA-2A?

This and other demos online have me worried I just bought it (hasn't arrived yet) I don't get why people want over saturation aside from VERY niche tone chasing (using that effect very rarely). Fingers crossed this is capable of being as warm sounding as the WA73 preamp. But all I've heard it just sounds unnecessarily brittle. Thanks for the demo

@@murcelo - Sure. I think it will make some people happy and the build quality / design is great (not on the level of UA's LA-610 quality but still nice and looks amAZing in your rack especially compared to the WA73) but it's not for me. Not as a one and only preamp in a home studio. Best way I can describe it is picturing a 4 or 5 watt amp in terms on headroom. On its least saturated settings, I can sing clean no problem and it will sound warm enough. But only if I sing softly. The moment I try to push my vocals at all, I start to hear saturation come in ever so slightly (much like a 5 watt guitar amp when you are playing clean softly it sounds clean, but when you start strumming harder the gain kicks in). And I'm not even talking about screaming. I did side by side A/B tests with the WA73. WA73 to my ears (it was close) was warmer on soft vocals, but more importantly when pushed the WA73 didn't start to saturate. For what I record (stuff in the vein of Pink Floyd, Radiohead, etc) this isn't a match. When the saturation is more cranked up a bit, it sounds like the vocals for Beastie Boys' Watcha Want: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNtjmqtjnKzSZnk.html So anyway I returned it and will just stick with the WA73, I'm really pleased with that preamp.

Are you saying that one will struggle to get a nice strong signal without heavy saturation? Also are you able to achieve both strong & clean as well as strong and saturated with the WA73? @@ikigai47

Problem is 12AX7 and 12AU7 are not great for microphone preamps, there are better tubes
