Warmoth Gecko 5 Bass Build & Playthrough

Had to pop in after you saying you're starting to do videos. Totally unexpected vid but interesting! And get to drool at all the stuff in the background. Warmoth woods look so delicious.

I’ve looked at Warmoth Geckos for years. I just wish they would offer that gecko body in a 4 string. I know they offer that G4 body, but at that point I’d rather just play my p bass. This is a beautiful build and showcase!

I'd try and ask them. I know for sure that they build stuff that you don't see on their website all the time.

The 74MV5C is going on my Warmoth G5 body at the bridge and a Bart Candy bar jazz in the neck position an Audere preamp running 18 volts will deliver the message.

I would have went with the Bartolini MV74 pickup and an Audere or BassMods preamp.

Do you know the name of the burst finish on this? It looks fantastic!

I believe it's a black to clear burst. This is an off menu option but available by request.

Just curious why you string the bass that way instead of putting the end of the string in the peg?

I was trying something different. I see people doing this on guitar and figured I'd give it a go. The idea is the string tension holds the end in place. I found it makes no real difference.

The neck was $469 (not counting shipping).

You only need a BBE preamp. I sold mine and with much regret.

I built a Gecko 5 medium and I must say I'm a bit disappointed in the B-string. It just sounds flat, not very bright.

I would be super pissed if I bought a Gecko 5 body and a Gecko 5 neck, and the neck didn't even fit. Isn't that entirely the point? I get that it's an easy fix but I feel for the price of both the components it shouldn't have to be done. At least this way you know the neck joint is as tight as possible!
