Warn Winch Install on Jeep Factory Steel Bumper
Overview of the installation of a Warn Zeon 10s Winch on the factory steel bumper on my 2017 Jeep JKU Wrangler Rubicon Recon. This winch install will be pretty much the same for any of the rubicon or special edition Jeep JK s or JL s that come with the factory steel bumper.

Good choice! Warn is the 'go to' winch. I've had mine since day one on my TJ. Going on 17 years now and always pulls no matter what.

Looking good. Sits low inside the bumper, like my warn does on the JL Rubicon. Being that you have limited tree access in some parts of the area you travel, you might have to invest in a land anchor.

@IrishStew Good idea. In Louisiana we don't have that problem since there are trees every 3 to 5 feet in either direction.

Hopefully you see this. When I was in college I had an old Dodge 1/2 ton. I ran all over the Sierras in California and Nevada. Then about 10yrs ago i bought an old Grand Cherokee that I now run around Western Oregon. Thanks to you I've been energized to get back in the hills

Looking good casey. Your jeep is looking perfect. Roof top tent and a few other items on top and now the wench 😁 even the tires look really good. Yay Casey! Glad to see you finally get a winch, especially since you do so much solo adventure. Just carry extra straps too, those desert junipers can be far from where you need one. A winch is the next move for my 4Runner, well, after saving for a bumper that will hold it.

Getting a winch installed is on my to do list, it's a great tool to have. It was very interesting to see how it installed. The kit I want to install let's me keep the stock bumper as well, I am thinking I'll stick with a wire cable instead of the synthetic rope. I've seen some advantages to both. The synthetic being far safer to run instead of the cable. But the service life of synthetic rope is just 2 or 3 years. And the cable can last well past it, plus its actually considerably less than its synthetic counterpart. I'm very excited to see you put it to good use

Glad to see you get a wench for your Jeep Casey....Now I hope you never have to use it. I have an M12 for my F350 SRW and only had to use it once for myself. Now, I use it most of the time to pull other folks rigs out of a jam. You might wanna check into a land anchor for the type of terrain you travel on. Take care and enjoy.

i was wondering when you were going to get a winch. Best upgrade I made to my 1974 CJ5 , which is still going strong after 46 years. Never had to use it for myself but it saved a number of other people.

To re-wind/re-spool the line I used to go to a slight+ incline, hook the line to a solid object, then winch the rig up the incline while walking along monitoring the lay of the line as it spooled on up the hill. This makes it a one person operation and perfection is easy. I would do this each time after use in the field for a neat appearance and healthier line. Maybe not as important with synthetic line, but very important with wire rope/cable.

If u dig a small whole about a foot deep and tie a knot on the end that barely fits in the whole and cover it up u can’t hardly pull it out pulling side ways but u can pull it out easy pulling strait up. This is how they tied up horses in the desert and a horse could not pull it out

Now you need to get a "Sand anchor" which is useful in areas where there is no trees or other easy connections to drag yourself out of any issue you need to use the winch for. I have always figured that you need a winch in order to get yourself or a friend out of a position that you should never have gotten into in the first place ( speaking from experience here).

You made that look too easy, but I know you left out some cutting and grinding. I have the same winch in the same bumper on a 2016 JK. I used the Mopar kit, but in looking at your install and having had lunch with some of the folks from Maximus-3 last year in Moab, I would go with their kit now.

Great video, thanks! Looking to get one of these for my 16 Rubicon. So the wireless adapter just plugs in when you need to use the winch? Also the wires only run to the battery and that’s it? Thanks so much!

Yes that wireless adapter just plugs in whenever I want to use it. I really like not having that wire connected to my controller. I do have the wired controller to in my recover kit as back up through. And yes. the wires run to the battery and that’s it. Great winch. And the synthetic line saves a decent amount of weight too. Truly dig your channel bro, but no offense, may you "NEVER" need that winch, cause that just means you drove into something that you shouldn't have, lol. But I know better than that, better to have an not need, than need an not have. How about extra kit to go with it like tree straps, ground anchors, cable blanket, extra hooks etc,etc. Thx for the vid Casey.

The main reason for went with the Synthetic line is the weight savings. I know it doesn’t seem like that much but I try to keep weight down every place I can. It all adds up!

Sometimes u may find yourself stuck without a tree to hook the winch to. Show us what u would do it those situations. I imagine burying a log that u tie the winch cable to??
