You are so right about making a commitment to reading your bible by cutting out time-wasters. I have taken a temporary sabbatical from FB because I was wasting too much valuable time on it. It was really hard...but I am over a week into it and am finding I love not being tied to it, and I have more time for reading and studying God's word. I am also pace my bible journaling because I feel it is more important to read and study my bile than to do artwork in it. I still do my creative stuff but reading and studying MUST come first. I was convicted about that.

I was so convicted by what you said. The reading plans have made me lazy and complacent. Back when I was serving in the us army i re dedicated my walk with the Lord. Back then I didn’t know about reading plans. All my free time was in the word and prayer. What I love most about your channel Cat is you telling us... don't make excuses... that a Christian needs to be in the word daily, we need to go from milk to meat. I can't tell you how many ladies I've met that have said they have been christians for 20 some years but have never read the bible all the way through. I'm like... how is that possible? When I first came to faith I had such a thirst to read his Holy word and that's not gone away. I just want to devour it! How can we use the armor of God if we never open it? A few years back I deleted my FB and now have no social media. It was such a time suck. And like you said, 2 hours later and there I would be scrolling. I need to implement separating my bible reading time from my bible study time. I'm huge into diving into those Schuyler cross references. And before you know it, I've been sitting for 4 hours in the morning doing reading and study combined. I'm going to try to tweak my system.

I also don’t care for the plans that jump around! I also like to read through front to back and then use a separate time for deeper study, journaling or devotionals. Thank you for your advice regarding nighttime because I really need to cut the phone out before bed and was just praying about it!!

The OT and NT reading plans tie themes together. What was promised has been delivered. It has more meaning than if you only read one book. Both have value. But tying all the threads together permit you to go much deeper.

Oh Sister Cat! You don't know how much I needed this tonight. So much physically has happened to my hubby & myself that now when I desperately need to be in God's Word, I have been struggling with picking up my Bible. After hubby suffered the severe spinal cord injury last Nov 1st, he's been in & out of hospitals & rehabs. He's back in rehab now after being in the hospital again. Then when he was able to be home, I ended up suffering 2 spinal fractures & spent a week in a major hospital an hr away from home. Upon discharge, I was given instructions to not do much of anything. Then, when hubby went back into the hospital, I was alone here at home. I ended up falling backwards in the kitchen and I was holding onto my walker. My legs just gave out & down I went on my backside very hard. Still don't understand how this happened & its one of the worst things that could happen to me with already having spinal fractures! The one time I didn't have my cellphone with me so I was unable to call my son for help! This happened about 8am Sunday the 2nd. It took me til after 9:30 am to make it back to my bedroom! I called my son & of course he came up to check on me. He wanted me to go to the hospital but I told him I wanted to wait since his dad was already in the hospital. Before hubby had to go back into the hospital I had started reading the Bible to him in the living room where his hospital bed is. I started in Matthew & he would ask questions if he didn't understand something. He has always had trouble reading & understanding what he read, but he does good if he's read to. We had been praying together every night before we'd go to sleep, but he was enjoying having the Bible read to him so much! I would read at least 5 chapters if not more each night. It was wonderful time spent with God & each other. After he ended up back in the hospital, he was able to call each night and we'd pray together. Since he's been in rehab, phones aren't furnished and he was afraid he wouldn't be able to use his cellphone since he has the use of only one hand. I took it to him this past Saturday & helped him with figuring out how he could use it. So, now we're able to talk & pray together if I'm not able to visit. The thing is now, I'm having trouble reading my Bible! God's Word has gotten me thru many trials & I've read the entire Bible several times. It's been my strength. It's laying right beside me on my bed but I just can't seem to pick it up and read. I lay with my hand on it when I'm resting but that's as far as I get. I don't know if the struggle is because hubby's not here for me to read to or what is causing this. I have trouble sleeping because of pain & I miss hubby not being home so badly. He turned 66 while in the hospital & I'll be 65 in Sept. Dec 12 this year will be our 48th wedding anniversary! We've never been apart this long, ever! I know there are reasons for everything that happens & his fall has literally brought him closer to God! So, please, my precious Sister in Christ, I'm asking for prayer for both of us! We need all the prayer warriors we can get to be holding us up in prayer! I know God is able to do anything & everything! You've made me realize tonight that I don't only need my Bible beside me, but I need to get back to reading God's Word like I've always done before. I think satan is trying to make me feel that I have so much on me right now and since I've read the Bible thru several times I can take a break. But you spoke straight to my heart! And now I know what I have to do! I just love the way God leads you to talk about these important things! I pray He blesses you abundantly for being His true servant! Much love from VA! 🙏💗

I really appreciate this video thanks. I'm a little behind you but I'm getting there. I used to struggle reading 3 chapters a day but I decided to do the grant horner study which is 10 chapters a day. This transformed my life, I now do this daily and do some in-depth study as well. I just want to spend more e and more time in the word now.

I don't like bible reading plans either. I like to take an entire book and read straight through.

I have been trading out translations when I’m reading my bibles. I do my studies and devotions from one certain Bible. But, I want to be prepared when someone has questions about the different ways the Bible’s read. And of course I mark them all up with the most important scriptures to be able to get to quickly.

I have read the Bible all the way through but you know I've read it so much and studied it so much that now I'm reading the New testament front-to-back word but I'm put the Old testament in chunks while I'm reading the new testament over and over again so that's how I'm reading it through this time like I'm reading the New testament and I'm reading the first five books and then I'm going to be reading the New testament again and then I'm going to be reading the books of the prophets so I would read the New testament over and over well I would research and chunks of the Old testament until I got the whole thing read but I have read the Bible from Genesis to revelation

Excellent time “use”! Yes it has been distracting! Great suggestion! Read for comprehension and leave a tab to bring me back to it for note taking during “that part of the day”. I don’t do well with check lists, that makes it a chore and I need to come in excitement and expectation not dreading because I have to check boxes off! I do agree with you. But some time God will put a certain scripture on your heart depending on what you are going through at the time. I do follow a Bible reading plan depending on what I'm dealing with in my life like say if I'm struggling with fear I have the online Bible and it has a lesson plan all about fear and scriptures that would go with that I do follow it depending on what the situation is but I do believe in reading your Bible from the beginning to the middle to the end you can't know what happened at the end without knowing what happened at the beginning.

You are right to keep your reading and study separate. You said you want to slow down your reading, read it out loud. I think it may help. Check out Keith Ferrin. He has a lot of good tips. There are others who suggest reading scripture out loud. Hope this helps.

Hi Cat, can you tell me what your purpose has been to press through being such a disciplined student of the Word, and avoiding all the fun distractions? I know it is right and good to do it, but I have a hard time with having the motivation to apply myself the way t would really like. I need a specific goal Thanks!
