I agree. It's front wheel drive and the engine/transmission position is fixed by the front wheel position. Putting the radiator over the transmission reduced the car's overall length.

@francois girard I owned a few DKW F12 cars. Easy engine to work on.. setting the tri-points was sometimes difficult.

So the author of the film is right- it's an export Wartburg 311-1000 that was sold new in Poland under the name "Wartburg 312" and with a 312 badge
