This was probably the peak of my WWE fandom right before I discovered independent wrestling in middle school. Ik people talk about the pipebomb a lot but it’s for a reason that moment was such a big deal they were talking about it on Hot 97

2011 was a good year. aside from punk being buried by hhh, botch cara, alberto el pendejo, the miz headlining wrestlemania, and john cena. it felt like a transitional year and there was a picture in bryan danielson's book that had him as the world champ, punk as the wwe champ, cody as the ic champ, beth phoenix as the diva's champ, kofi and matt sydal (then known as evan bourne) as the tag champs, and matt cardona (zack ryder) as the u.s. champ. it was a picture that i felt was the beginning of a new future for wwe but that never happened.

In my honest opinion, I felt like the bad outweigh the good for WWE 2011. Sure the year had a few things going for it like the Ryder Revolution, the slow rise of Daniel Bryan, Mark Henry’s Hall of Pain, Disfigured/Undashing Cody Rhodes and the year of CM Punk whom was easily the saving grace of the company during that time. Everything else was just utterly terrible… - Michael Cole’s insufferable heel commentary and his creepy erection for The Miz - The Miz as WWE Champion and also main eventing WrestleMania - Edge’s retirement - WrestleMania 27 was utterly terrible - The annoying anonymous RAW General manager - The burial of Zack Ryder - Ruining the Summer of Punk - Ruining Christian’s long overdue World title run which still infuriates me to this day

To me, 2011 will always be the year of missed opportunities. We should've gotten Edge vs Christian at Wrestlemania and he should've won and keep the title until Night of Champions, where he would lose to Mark Henry. CM Punk should've stayed gone for months. Maybe coming back after the Royal Rumble winner calls him out. Mark Henry's hall of pain run should've kept going and end and Wrestlemania in a Triple Threat elimination match between him, Daniel, and Sheamus. So many missed opportunities

The pipebomb saved this year imo the shows were brutal to get through on a weekly basis. It injected life back into a lifeless product

And they didn’t even remotely scratch the surface on CM punk during that time. He was the hottest star in all of wrestling. And if they would’ve not been so stubborn and out of touch and would’ve made John Cena a villain, putting him with the McMahon family you would’ve had a program that week to week people would’ve been addicted to seeing Instead, the undercut punk put them in the middle of the card as a world champion had him playing second fiddle to a baby face that was getting booed out of the building each and every week then they eventually made him a bad guy for no good reason and the John Cena crap never ended until they replaced him with Roman reigns who was a worse version of him

Even AFTER CM Punk's pipe bomb, 2011 was GAWD AWFUL. TNA Wrestling sucked around this time as well, with Joker Sting being pretty much the only reason to watch it. Always found it funny how the pipe bomb and Joker Sting came around at about the same time.

2011 in WWE was only good for about 3 weeks. That whole CM Punk pipebomb stuff was only good for 3 weeks, then it all went down hill. So no 2011 WWE was not good. WWE was only good from 1984 to 1992 and 1997 to 2006.
