3 ай бұрынWWE has always had its ups and downs, but the years 2017 to 2019 were the worst. Vince McMahon seemed to have totally lost his mind. WrestleMania was bad back to back, part timers like The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar were given special treatment, Raw and Smackdown was basically unwatchable, Baron Corbin was everywhere, and so much more. And people say the WWF in 1995 was bad.

I would say the New Generation Era was worse especially due the mostly outdated and childish gimmicks and characters,Vince's refusal to change with the times and pretty consistent sub par ppvs and shows. The 2017-2019 era while having genuinely some questionable and poor booking descions,a lackluster main event scene,really chore to sit through ppvs and weekly shows and not giving the fans what they wanted had a lot more in my opinion redeeming aspects that the New Generation era didnt have despite it having it's own set of positives and moments

Personally, I'd take the silly storylines here over the sterile storylines of today. If you think today's product is fantastic, it is in a wrestling sense, but there's barely any substance to most of the storylines. The Bloodline storyline has had its moments, but usually they come when The Usos or Sami Zayn did or said something daring, not because there was any real flavour to The Bloodline's presentation. Cody's promos likewise have some good wordplay in them, but otherwise he's nowhere near as engrossing as he was when he was Dashing/Undashing Cody Rhodes.

2017 - 2019 can be summed up simply as this: Vince was so pissed that the fans rejected Roman Reigns that he decided to sabotage EVERY other wrestler on the roster, regardless of if they were involved with Reigns or not.

Pretty much this. And that's why I roll my eyes when people call Roman Reigns the Goat bro. Roman being a heel was pretty much the same as him being a face when it came to WWE shoving him down our throats and constantly sucking him off at every fucking turn. Like the babyfaces will literally in Kayfabe praise him as if he doesn't cheat in every match. Every other heel in history never got this special treatment. The commentators trashed them all the time. But because Roman's the golden boy he gets treated differently.

Roman was OVER AF when he was in the shield and got louder reactions than the other two members so Vince (rightfully so) gave the fans what they wanted by pushing Roman but the fans had already fantasy booked Bryan’s comeback story in their heads along with the CM Punk podcast and decided that they’d turn on him because WWE didn’t follow the exact plan that the fans wanted…

@@user-sf3ns6ed3g Roman was over in the shield, when he had Seth and Dean talking for him. Then he left for a little bit after SummerSlam and as soon as he came back they immediately tried to push him as the face of the company and no one supported it. He was booed in nearly every building. Not to mention that he wasn't cutting very good promos, he was constantly involved in terrible story lines, and was given WrestleMania main events left and right despite the fact that none of them felt earned and all the matches were pretty terrible.

The fans were more invested in Dean Ambrose at the time and they would constantly stifle him to get Roman over. The fans turned on him pretty quick and for good reason 2015-2019 is by far the worst time in professional wrestling. 2016-2017 Smackdown and NXT really were amazing though.

Also in 2017, a legend like Chris Jericho had to face such an insult by getting his main event spot at WrestleMania replaced by a couple of part-timers who can't even wrestle for 10 minutes

Considering Kevin Owens vs Chris Jericho ended up being a very mediocre match, I think it was the right choice that they didn’t end up main eventing. Somehow Goldberg vs Brock was a more enjoyable match

I think we can also include the following: 1. Brock Lesnar reigning as Universal Champion on a part-time schedule. 2. The 2019 Hell in a Cell match 3. Brock Lesnar winning the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2019. While the other competitors were beating each other up, Brock just all of a sudden runs to the ring, knocks Mustafa Ali off the ladder, climbs the ladder, grabs the briefcase, and wins the match. Brock Lesnar did NOT need to even be in the MITB match, let alone win it.

Let’s not forget that during the time that Brock Lesnar was the Universal Champion and not on TV, Jinder Mahal was the WWE Champion for some time. WWE was just not watchable at that time. 😂😂

To be fair, Jinder Mahal being WWE Champion was a breath of fresh air, especially the way he became #1 contender and the promo after it. It was after he became champion that it went downhill.

I think 2017-2019 WWE has surpassed 1995-96 WWF as the worst period in company history. Nonsensical storylines, start-and-stop pushes, WWE deliberately burying fan favorites, and complete fan apathy. Hell, AEW was partly birthed by disgruntled ex-WWE stars. May that era rest is piss.

Yes, but in the mid 90s, WWE was fighting for it's survival financially being pushed by WCW. AEW didn't exist yet until late 2019, and even late 2010s WWE had a boatload of money.

I don’t know. 1995 was by far their worst year. Survivor series 95 saved my fandom. Had it not been for that show, I would have fell out of both wcw and wwe because 95 was bad for wrestling as a whole with hogan just being the king of cringe in 95. 2017 to 2019 was tragically horrible but 95 still takes the cake. King Mable alone makes it terrible but you also had Diesel in the main events with immobile big men and such a lean roster. Plus we had NXT at least to have fun with. I will say though that 95 to 96 was just wwe trying to keep their head above water. So I get why it would be worse but 17 to 19 with all that talent wasted was highly frustrating to sit through. Vince lost the magic and really had been declining for a lot longer than this two year period but this was Vince at his peak of shitty.

NXT Black and Gold carried these years heavily with their much better quality product and it didnt help every call up to the main roster was dreadful and such a demotion cause they were most likely gonna be saddled with horrible material. I think the Benoit situation made him scared from doing anything like he did before. After 2007, WWE went pg and he pretty much became a shell of his former self with the childish promos. Similar situation happened in the 90's after the steroid trial.

you could honestly lump the pandemic era here too. the no fans thing was out of everyones control, but there was so much terrible stuff in 2020 through 2021. the karaoke segment on smackdown, basically every ppv in 2020, most of the cinematic matches were bad, a lot of shitty bray wyatt stuff, zombie lumberjack match, and more. only thing to really come out of this era was the bloodline.

It's crazy just how much of Vince's fetishes and other perversions are reflected in so many WWE gimmicks and storylines through the years. The amount of angles depicting some form of humiliation is staggering. If you think too much about it, it really does start to kind of alter or affect the way you look back and enjoy a lot of WWE's history.

Mid/late 2016 had shown so much promise only for it to go poof as soon the year ended . But I’ll say there were dope moments in 2017 -2019 Daniel Bryan’s miraculous comeback , him paying it forward to kofi Kingston I liked the survivor series matches he and AJ had against Brock AJ styles and Kevin Owen”s feud over the us title , and Becky lynch winning both belts at mania 35 But it’s like for every good moment , they always found a way to make things silly again. Ironically the pandemic era was slightly better And 2021 to now has been enjoyable

Yes, but Angle deserved a FAR better retirement match on a grander scale with a veteran opponent. Vince's poor booking and scatterbrained decisions left him with no logical big names for Angle to face when he wanted to call it quits.

2017-2020 was Vince Russo WCW 2000 level bad. This is why AEW was as successful as it was when they first started out because Vince had fucked up the product so bad. It wasn't until 2022 was when people started to be re-interested in WWE and that's because Triple H became the head booker. Triple H should have been the booker years ago.

Even without all the controversy that came up around Vince, in a small way, it was a blessing because Vince McMahon really need to go. From a creative standpoint, he didn’t have it anymore. I’m not saying HHH is perfect, and I’m still not sure Cody Rhodes should’ve been the one to beat Roman reigns recently, But it’s loads better than what we were given back at this time!

Nobody else could or should have beaten Reigns. It was time for a new champ to kick off a new era rather than defaulting to Lesnar, Cena, Orton, or Rock. Nobody else had the star power, optimism, heroic, inspirational babyface potential that he had. People keep saying "he's boring! he's lame! he's a crybaby!" and they don't respect his humility and willingness to express vulnerability. He could spice it up a bit in his promos, but he just won the belt not even 2 weeks ago. He's bound to start a feud with AJ Styles after tonight so that'll be interesting. AJ is retiring soon and Backlash is probably gonna be his last (big) match. Maybe even his retirement match. We don't need any more part-timers holding belts. That needs to be retired with McMahon. It's time for something different.

They had no choice but to insert Seth. It was headed for another catastrophe because everyone had had just about enough of Roman as a face and no one wanted Lesnar on top either because of his part time status.

Top 5 WM ME if you ask me: the brutality of Brock Lesnar, the 'Suplex City, B' momment, Roman's comeback, the nearfalls... and Seth cashing in at the end. It was a masterclass on how to book a Main Event for the ages.

Vince is a 70 something year old man , constantly stressed, and got average 5 hours of sleep if that on a nightly basis. Those are probably some clues as to why he was cognitively declining as a booker. Either that or he was way more interested in who he was going to SA or s**t on instead.

Unpopular Opinion- Even though 2009-2012 era of wwe was corny it had really good moments and don't forget two of the best matches happened in that era (Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25 and CM Punk vs John Cena at Money in the Bank 2011)

You are absolutely correct. I tried to get back into it around 2017 and Midway through 2018, I had hit my limit of crap. Vince was basically going against whatever the fans wanted, and it was beyond frustrating. So many nothingburger episodes, so I stopped for about 5 years. I did watch some NXT for a while, but once VKM took THAT over, I knew it was gonna be ruined all over again. This new era with HHH is light years better. VKM needs to stay away from it forever and ever.

i also kinda feel like in 2017 -2019 there's a lost generation of the wwe women's division when it comes to all of the women who were called up from nxt to the main roster during that time period (asuka ember moon riot squad (ruby riot liv morgan & sarah logan) mandy rose sonya deville nicki cross kairi sane zelina vega lacey evans the iiconics (billie kay & peyton royce) because at that time for the exception of sasha banks & bayley wwe were only focused on pushing charlotte becky lynch alexa bliss & ronda rousey while everybody else in the women's division had to stand in the background & fell victim to wwe's bad creative & bad booking. of course as time passed majority of those women would become champion like asuka became the only grand slam champion out of group liv morgan became a singles champion & a women's tag champion. and the rest became champions as far as the women's tag team championship

Good video as always sir! Good points, but several years in the mid to late 00’s were also bad, as was about the last 10 years of Vince’s reign - each year getting progressively worse. It was almost as if 85% of his ‘brain’ went to pushing Reigns and the remainder of his ‘brain’ went to booking the rest. 2013 and onward with some flukes here and there. But yes, those 2 years were pretty bad as well. And if they were going to to the Angle son angle, Gable would’ve made a lot more sense if anything - but since when was Vince sensible.

IMO he probably should've stepped down in the wake of the Benoit tragedy in 2007. That directly led to the PG era. He didn't have that kind of humility so it wouldn't happen. And that car bomb killing off Mr McMahon would've been the way to go out.

After watching Omega vs Okada at Wrestle Kingdom in 2017 , it ruined watching WWE for me. I knew nothing about these guys nor their story. I didn’t believe the hype but damn I was proven wrong. I completely stopped watching WWE in late 2019 and haven’t gone back since. Going through the weekly shows was a chore. Bryan Danielson had the amazing run with the hemp belt and the funny segments calling the WWE universe fat. Once Bryan was done, I’ll turn the channel because I found myself complaining most of the time so it felt more like hate watching.

The dog food stuff with Roman, and i wasn't even a big fan of his, was bottom of the barrel. This whole cruel joke on the wrestlers shit needed to die with the old man in charge and it seems to be gone forever now. Thank God. He drove FTR outta WWE and had them as goofs with Ucey Hot, fired ECW and killed his buzz and the whole Shorty G thing almost killed Gable's career.

He wasn't even a genius in the 90s either 😂😂😂 Only reason everything worked out is because he FINALLY listened to HBK and HHH to let wrestlers be more themselves than the gimmicks when Nitro and the NWO started giving them the belt 😂😂😂. They had been trying to get Vince on board before even Hall and Nash left. His money was on the line then so he had no choice but to comply. When he became the clear cut monopoly, he stopped caring what fans wanted and needed and ran things the way he always wanted and felt they should've been ran.

I remember Kurt Angle having Jason Jordan take some pictures with Kurt and his family. They were also seen in public a few times together, to help sell the storyline. So Vince McMahon had this random dude do all this sht with Kurt just because he thought interracial dating was funny.....Yeah that's one of the most Vince McMahon things I've ever heard. Just imagine being Kurt and explaining that to your actual family.... "Honey why is that man following you around and why does keep joining in on family photos?" "My boss thinks it's funny"

0:45 I don't know about it being worse than 1995. That was the year a Celebrity main evented WrestleMania. Yes, I know Mr. T main evented WrestleMania 1 but he was alongside Hulk Hogan in a tag match and didn't steal the spotlight from the WWF Champion. I honestly believe WrestleMania 11 is even worse than WrestleMania 9. Yeah, Hulk Hogan squashing Yokozuna in minutes was a terrible decision as well but at least it wasn't a clean finish and Yokozuna got his win back 2 months later.

In my opinion, WWF (it will always be that to me), hit it's peak in the Attitude Era and after almost losing the Monday Night Wars to WCW. They lost their only real competition. Then kayfabe continued to dissolve. And then they tried to slide back to PG and the sissy "wellness policy." It's been uninteresting crap ever since.

As bad as it was, WCW in 2000 takes the cake. They literally changed storylines as soon as they started and had like 1,000 different left turns in the storylines every single week and nothing made sense. There's a reason why they didn't last another year.

It was mostly 2017 and 2018 that sucked very bad. 2019 was actually a bit better with the introduction of the Fiend, Kofimania and NXT invasion. Also the Seth vs Brock feud was pretty good in my opinion.

I stopped watching wrestling altogether in 2009, and with good reason 😂 It’s gotten better though. I just started watching in mid-2023. Without Vince they can definitely make major improvements- much needed improvements.
