You're such a beautiful human being. I love when you share your musings, unscripted, unfinished. It's this kind of reflection that makes us stop and examine our lives, allowing space for us to make corrections or continue the investigation. Our stories are still being written, so your hesitation to me is hope, it's living with an open heart, without conclusions and definitives, as a servant, an instrument. You're right, being a man isn't about macho, or knowing or control, it's about reverence. I read a definition of love by M Scott Peck "the will to extend ones self for the purpose of nurturing ones own or another's spiritual growth." Because in the end we're all just walking each other home.

Very well said dear heart, we are all on different paths in life, it is by helping others that we learn where our path will take us. Many times when we offer counsel to others the message we offer is one we need to hear ourselves.

You are a wise soul Kriss. We see through our own stories, that's all we know. Having a sibling has been one of my life's greatest joys. When you understand where someone came from, you can better see them for who they are. Cody was one of my first lessons in loving another and my first friend.

FRESH PRINCESS You become wise only if you learn from the mistakes you have made and the heartache you have lived through. I learned first hand how little "family" mattered when I came out and started to walk my path and mine alone. The God and Goddess blessed me when Twinkle came into my life almost 16 years ago. If you ask her she will tell you the same thing. I hope I'm not pushing on peoples christian sensibilities. Over the years we have won over more people by just being ourselves, warm and friendly to others that people just see us as a nice couple and forget we are the same gender. At the last open house there was enough drama going on at times. We saw no need to add to it so we played it as a straight couple. There is more I could say but this is not the forum for it. I'm not here to kick other peoples sensibilities and values and try to instill my own. We teach by example, how we treat others speaks loudly of what's in the soul. Blessings to all.

When you walk your own path, you are honoring God. It's that simple. Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Whathaveyou, truth is truth. It doesn't matter what dogma you believe in, the path is the path. Our bodies allow us to experience God, nothing more, nothing less. We are all here to learn love. Don't sweat the details, you have a heart of gold. As does Twinkle. Settle into what is and celebrate love. We need more of it.

Maybe i can explain the last 20 seconds of this video. Real men care about being a good father, husband, and citizen so much that the effort to put into words such a personal aspiration brings them to tears. The fear of not being these things scares the toughest of men, but the honor of being one humbles a man to his knees with gratefulness to the God that made him so. Thank you so much for posting this.

I am so glad you didn't delete this and decided to share it with us. It really opens my eyes when you mention the husband being the house band and how immature my beliefs have been on my roll in a relationship. Its no wonder I have never had a successful long term one, how could I have with such a complete lack of understanding of who I am supposed to be as a man? I'll never be able to express just how bright that light bulb is that just came on above my head. Thank you :)

Colin, I don't know which brought more tears to my eyes -- Wranglerstar's heartfelt video or your comment from a convicted honest heart. God created men to be the spiritual leader, the protector, the provider for his wife and his children. I Cor 16:13 is a favorite of mine: "Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, *act like men*, be strong." There are so many inspiration role models in the Bible: Abraham, Joshua, Caleb, Daniel, Nehemiah, Nathaniel, Barnabas, John, etc. Open your Bible, pray to God for understanding and wisdom, and start meeting these men. And sure, watch a few episodes of Little House, too. :)

You both inspire me. It saddens me that we live in a culture where women can openly contemplate, share and express but men are all to often bound by the unspoken. To see both of you pondering meaning and ideals that may no longer be serving you makes my heart sing. I love you both.

You're a breath of fresh air Colin. Not only are you able to acknowledge that you may have fallen short in some areas of your life, but you are man enough to do it publicly. That's character and I applaud you for it. It's no surprise that young men these days don't really know how to be a man. The family unit and roles of men have been under attack from the left for 50 years now and most boys have no frame of reference to draw upon when it's their turn to be fathers, husbands, men. Family Courts have all but pushed men out of the lives of their kids. Many deserve to be but there is a terrible cost to this. Kids are lost and left to try to figure out life on their own. Many of us grew up with no man in the house. Our only male role models were on TV or if we were lucky, other people's fathers. It's very sad really. Irresponsibility, divorce and bad parenting has become acceptable if not encouraged. And this is by design from a very insidious malignant plaigue on our society, the left. We now recognize this as social engineering and we need to excise it from our lives if we hope to have a society in the future. This cannot stand and we need to be the remedy. Character is at the heart of it. There's hope for the future with young guys like you who have figured it out at a young age. When my son was born I realized that I was beginning the most important job of my life. Everything he is or ever will be is directly related to how I conduct myself as his father. And that will translate to his kids one day and so on down the line. It's an incredibly important and daunting responsibility.

I would just like to say that I come from a broken home, my Father wasn't around. To any single mothers out there who think there child doesn't need positive male role model in there life and that you can do it all, YOU ARE WRONG and you don't have to do it alone. If your child's father isnt around or is just a total loser, I would suggest joining your son up with your local scouting organization. My mother realized that I needed a positive male role model in my life and joined me up at the age of 10. I'm telling you it made all the difference! There is nothing wrong with asking for help. Most scout leaders are great guys and if you make them aware of your situation they will go out of there way to help you in any way possible. My scout leaders were a huge part of making me into the man I am today.

Interesting video, thanks for sharing! As a child raised by a single mum I can attest to the fact you don't require an atomic family to have the values of honesty, integrity and excellence; those are my primary characteristics; you just need a parent who is diligent and a good role model to instill these values in you. My mum is amazing woman, and she set an amazing example as a parent. I can tell you, if I were a politician I would not be someone who was greedy, corrupt or mediocre. All of this said, the lack of a positive male role model makes life a little harder, because you have to identify the characteristics you wish to have and that ultimately you will instill in your children and community. Fortunately even one good parent is enough to instill a pride of self, and thirst for perfection, they just have to do the heavy lifting of two people, it's not easy. At 32 I can honestly say I have become the strong, gentle, fair and confident father that I never had, but my daughter will. A husband that doesn't direct like an army general, but rather consults and shares the responsibility of family decision making with his wife, who loves and respects her and is in turn loved and respected. A man who spends every effort in life devoted to his family over himself, a man who cares about others and who is not afraid to do the right thing, even if it is unpopular.

Happy(late) Father's Day, Cody. I lost my dad 3 years ago and he wasn't always the best. He was a lot like the dad you described in the video - besides the alcohol that killed him, he thought he only had to provide monetarily for the family and then his job was done. This feels slightly strange to say but people like you and nutnfancy have sort of become my youtube fathers. You guys teach and inspire me everyday. I remember watching King of the Hill growing up and hoping that one day I'd be half of the man that Hank Hill was. Thank you for keeping me on the path. Bless, Jimbo

I'm glad you uploaded it also. I don't want to get sappy..but...speaking with my mother and describing who you are she had some profound insight I had not realized. She said i seem to have found you to be a proper father and example for me to look up to and learn from. Before you back and say no one can replace my father...you're right. My father wasn't there except to abuse..so you're not replacing...you're teaching and restoring what was never there. You're not perfect, but you're a good and Godly role model. Came across this vid by accident and it struck a chord with me. I am of an older generation that grew up just ahead of Father Knows Best and Leave it to Beaver. Both American programmes but similar to my upbringing in Canada. Your ruminations on fatherhood are encouraged because thoughtful decisions come from reflection. In my years of existence on this earth I have found those decisions to be the best in a majority of situations. Learning from our mistakes is smart, learning from others' mistakes before we make them is wise. Be observant, be thoughtful, strive to be more than what you are today, try to make life better for those around you. May God bless and light your path.

Wranglerstar, I've learned much from you: hands-on problem solving application at our homes, and now deeper reflections for the heart and spirit's yearnings to walk with day by day. Your sudden, unspoken ending mirrored the grief the man Charles Ingalls would have felt by opening the question, "what do we/I do?" There's grief because we always sense how we fall short of the measure and goal no matter what we others might say. Tender are tears that a man shows in his resolve to face a difficult task...you did. As you know we are not shamed but humbled that Our Lord uses our weakness that He is glorified.

Cody! Your Video is about Honest, Deeply Felt, Convictions! Those are not always given to a scripted scene like many well produced videos...but rather are often delivered with a strong sense of emotion and commitment. I am glad that you posted this video! You are correct that many of these values and ideals are waning today. I think you hesitated because it wasn't your usual high quality (in terms of editing and production), but had to post it because it was important... Anyway, I'm glad you did!

It is something we see all too rarely, and I believe it is the thing that makes you a better man. I spend a lot of my time doing the same thing, which is why I think I like your show so much. Thanks again Cody for another inspiring video! (even if you did loose your train of thought.) When people ask me what I want for my future and I mention that I want to be the "Caroline" of my future they look at me like I am absolutely nuts. Its seems that the role of the husband\father has been flipped with that of the wife\mother. I am always amazed at the range of responses I get from different generations. The older generations, those that are in their 60+, look at me and comment "Good luck on finding a man." They say it with sincerity because they understand that the men they married, who allowed them to be housewives and live that life, don't really exist in the younger generations of today's society. The middle group, 35-59 look at me and the first words out of their mouths are "but you will need to have a job." Its like this 'how dare you not have a career' mentality. often they are the ones who think no person can exist on a single income. then there are those who are more like minded to the cause. The ones that understand that if we don't do something about it, the family unit is going to be lost. They understand that it is up to our generation to be the change we want to see. To get back to our roots and be just a little "old-Fashioned." So pray for us that we may be come the Charles and Caroline ingalls of our day.

Cody, this is a beautiful message. Being a husband and father can be tough sometimes. Another point that stands out about Charles Ingalls as portrayed by Michael Landon was his Faith. I find that anytime I struggle with my ability to be a good husband or a good father I rely on my Faith. Another great show was The Waltons, with good father figures in both Grandpa Walton, and John Walton.

It's obvious from all the comments that your decision to listen to the small, still voice and post this was the right move, but just in case you needed one more, this video is directly responsible for me watching Little House. It never even crossed my mind to watch it before, but your description of Charles Ingalls makes me realize that I actually NEED to watch it. Thanks for that!

I read the Little House books to my kids a couple of years ago, and it prompted me to think a lot about old Pa Ingalls as a father. He certainly had a lot of excellent, inspirational qualities: a relentless work ethic, an independent streak a mile wide, a strong moral compass, and an abiding devotion to his family. But he had one deep failing. He had a wanderlust that seems to have been triggered by adversity. Every time things got hard where he was, his response was to throw in the towel, uproot his whole family, drag them hundreds of miles into the wilderness, and start over. He was a good man, and his family obviously loved him. But sometimes I wonder what kind of lives they'd have had if he had been more tenacious, or less prone to see if the grass was greener over some other hill. Better? Worse? We'll never know, but I do wonder.

You bring up many good points. Your example of Charles Ingalls is perfect, and I see you in a similar role. The examples that you set should be adopted by many of the young men in your audience. It is a healthy and sound character you present. Thanks for reconsidering the uploading of this vid. God Bless!

Cody: you said it all very well! And leaving us all with the question as to what its all about is for us to explore in our own lives... No need for you to have all the answers but you certainly pointed all of us that follow you in the right direction as it relates to looking into ourselves and our families and our roles as husbands and fathers. Another great video Cody. Charles Ingalls would be proud to have you as his neighbor!

Thank you for posting this anyway. You have made a lot of great points. I can see this topic growing in our society and it sickens me the way people truly do treat the husband/father these days. I have had my fair share of it myself. Some people treat me as if I'm just the bread winner and I have no say in my home and go to my wife behind my back and create drama. If I assert my self by confronting the individual, then I'm looked at as a jerk.

My role as a father I thought was over. My children have grown and moved out to start lives of their own. Now, I'm two months from a new role, that as a grandfather. I'm excited about this new role. It is my desire to have a little of Charles Ingalls and Casper ten Boom (Corrie ten Boom's father of The Hiding Place, wonderful story) . I'm a bit smarter this time around then when I was a father, I'm better able to help. And I pray for the wisdom to do a good job at it. Thanks for sharing.

I know what this video is about, frustration. My wife and I see the same thing. We want to live our lives and raise our kids to be good people, but society has other plans. My uncle told me once, that if you can be a better father than your dad, consider yourself successful. I think that was the best advice anyone could give a father. Thanks for video.

To answer your question yes quite possibly. I too am glad that you did not delete this video. Throughout the entire video I could see hear and feel your frustration that I see here and feel everyday with today's societal view of a father. I'm sorry that you lost heart during filming, it's hard not to lose heart when one looks at the way society views treats and the belittles a father. I truly believe that there are those in society who do it correctly, but it seems nobody is listening to them. Thank You Cody for who you are and as I've said before jack is a lucky boy.

Several years ago my spiritual father and mentor gave a teaching to our men's group (it went viral within the church) that is best summed up with a simple statement. "All the world's ills can be directly attributed to the lack of a father's love." Without that love we are a ship without a rudder.

Cody, As many have already said, this is prolly the best if not the most powerful video yet. Your grappling with what to say next toward the end said so much. Having, through the grace of God and a good helpmate, raised two children to adulthood. I now find grandchildren being raised properly by those same children. It's less trouble to do the right thing than to make excuses for doing the wrong thing. Satan has somehow blinded us to this fact. I wish you peace my friend and that God may pour out his blessings upon you and all your house. Amen and Amen Bob

I'm glad you decided to post instead of delete. You are absolutely correct. I was born in 76 and even then like you said the husband was basically portrayed as an overgrown child, and idiot. Even today its the same thing. I ask younger kids who there hero is and they always say someone that is famous. I've always held my hero as my father. He always took me and my brother everywhere he went. He thought like you do about his role in raising future men. He is the most honest person I know. He puts everyone above himself. He taught me and my brother all the knowledge he could while we were still living at home. Then continues to teach when he can even thought I have my own family. He also brings his teaching to the grandchildren. I wish we had more fathers and grandfathers like you and my father. The world would be a better place.

Cody you may have got sidetracked on this one and didn't finish but you drove a good out there. My father and grandfather both where givers, providers, teachers and would stand up for what the believed in and would only fight to protect their family or protect somebody from themselves. They played roles that you would rarely see today. If it wasn't for them I to would get lost in the shuffle of the modern father/husband role (go to work make money come home and let the wife do rest) and that's why there's such a high rate of single parents and divorce in our world. In short I'm glad to see another father that shows those qualities and plays an important role in their families lives. Keep these great videos comming. You put quality videos out there that are family oriented content not x-rated garbage.

Very well spoken. You hit on one of society's greatest faults in our modern era. It's not just the undermining of the father role but it's the undermining of the family as a whole. I almost believe that the forces that may be want us broken. Broken morale, broken families and broken ideas. This will make our society very easy to control and manipulate.

I have made similar comments on television turning men into fools. People laugh at Peter Griffin or Homer Simpson, but it isn't funny. This isn't about topical humor, it is about the dumbing down of society's perception of what it is to be a man and father. I am working hard to be a good man that will make a great father some day. Thank you for not deleting this video, the sentiment needs to be heard by everyone.

Great video and very enlightened views. I often try to live and raise my family with that same values. I thought it was interesting that you looked at Charles Schwab in the light as almost a model to follow. I am a big fan of old westerns and older shows in general. I grew up watching the Rifleman and have similarly looked at the Lucas McCain character played by Chuck Conners in the same manner. I admire the dynamic that Lucas had with his son and have tried to be that kind of father to my son as well in a way. Just thought I would share. God bless.

You come across, in most of your videos, as a guy who always has all the details under control during your tasks and labors. I think one of the ways for a father to display honesty and integrity to their children is to admit that even though they have many things figured and under control, some efforts still wind up hitting a wall, like you felt this video did. You showed us this side of you anyway. It was still worth sharing, and had something for many to learn from. Sometimes people seem to think quitting is a bad thing....sometimes, there's wisdom in knowing when something is at an end. A child who sees their father show this humility will have all the trust in the world in that kind of father !
