Wow, this comment section has really reaffirmed what I said in the beginning about not talking about Ghostbusters online. Before you leave a comment directed at me or anyone else, you should genuinely think about what you’re saying. No matter if we agree or disagree, remember that the way you conduct yourself is representative of your side of the debate. This comment section is flooded with personal attacks/insults on me and other viewers as well as broad, closed minded oversimplifications without any actual evidence to support your opinions. If you wanna debate, criticize, or share an opposing opinion, then you absolutely should. But if you’re using this as an excuse to attack others due to your own self loathing over an eight year old movie of all things, I’m begging you to get a life.

You've missed a lot of context around the advertising for this movie when you dismiss the arguments about it being woke. The PR team and people in charge of making the movie absolutely leaned into the "it's better because they're women" and "you can't hate this without being a misogynist" woke claims. People looking at the ads before release had every reason to believe this movie would be propagandist garbage.
@Kopiefilms
@Kopiefilms 3 ай бұрын
@@MrDj232 It’s possible that I missed something. Can you provide me with a quote from a producer or marketer who said the film was better than the original because it starred women? In all my research, the only people I could find commenting on that were internet users and no one actually tied to the film. Also, advertising has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the product as a whole. They should be judged separately as they’re different teams pushing different content for different purposes.

@@Kopiefilms Paul Feig was pretty clear from the start he expected an all female leading cast to be better than an all male cast. Before he decided on anything, even whether the movie should be a reboot, remake, or sequel he knew he wanted 4 women to be the Ghostbusters. You can look at any of his interviews about the film from 2014 to 2016 and see he always talks about how he finds funny women more exciting than working with men and how all the backlash is just misogyny. Also, you have a whole history section in your video about what people thought before the movie came out. They can't judge a movie they haven't seen on anything other than the promotion. If this is how they're going to advertise the movie then people are perfectly justified in making assumptions.

@@Kopiefilms you didn't miss anything and you're right about it being mainly from internet users. what you're getting is words taken out of context, and many people who were already on the defense with this whole 'woke' movement. feig literally was tyring to promote his own movie that he co-wrote and directed. you know who would also think it would be cool and be excited about an all female leading cast? frickin women and plenty of them. and because he did it, and said he wanted to do it, he's this cursed 'woke'

@@MrDj232 okay so because all they had was a promotion, that they didn't like, it's justified to make the assumptions that the movie will be garbage, when they haven't even seen the movie yet? wtf are you on lol. pretty sure everyone made up their minds even before watching the movie, and already applied their prejudices on it

It’s definitely subjective. Respect your opinion, but I couldn’t watch the movie ever again. I’ve watched it a few times, but Afterlife and Frozen Empire put the final nail in 2016’s coffin. The humour was just too slapstick for me!

I didn't HATE the 2016 GHOSTBUSTERS, (I'm an OG GHOSTBUSTERS FAN!), I was mostly "disappointed" that my favorite comedy actresses and the director of "Bridesmaids" (and episodes of "The Office") would deliver such a "MEH" movie. Also, it didn't need to be a "reboot", It could've easily been about a "Ghostbusters" franchise and the challenges of working in the shadow the first Ghostbusters.

That’s not a bad idea, would’ve loved to see this group with that plot. Though, I did honestly like the movie as is. Admittedly, not nearly as much as the original, but I still had a good time w it. Have you seen the two recent GB movies? They’re semi-similar to the concept you mentioned with working after the first team disbanded. If you have seen them, what did you think?

This wasn't a bad Ghostbusters movie.... it's just a bad movie. If this movie is one of ur guilty pleasures in life then so be it, I can respect that. But don't sit there and say ehhhh.... it wasn't that bad when it was. I love Kate Mckinnon and even she couldn't save this train wreak. The two people who really soured me on this movie is Chris Hemsworth and being dumb for no reason, if they gave a quick back story on why he's dumb, it might not have been so infuriating to watch. And Leslie Jones ( Heavy Sigh ) I'm not gonna go into my rant about her, but stereotype about sums it up.
@Kopiefilms

You’re entitled to your own opinion, but the point of the video was not me saying this is a guilty pleasure movie. It was a retrospective and critique of a movie that I’m not ashamed to say I enjoy. It’s a film with good and bad qualities. However, people online tend to only discuss the bad and overlook the positives. I think Hemsworth and Jones each gave good performances. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find a bad actor in the film. It’s completely valid to say that you didn’t vibe with the humor or the way it’s written, but calling either of them specifically bad is just silly imo.

@@Kopiefilms in no way do i think Chris Hemsworth is a bad actor ( how did you get that out of what i wrote?) The character that he played was poorly written and not funny, If his portrayal did it for you, good for you. Comedy is subjective, but to try and make ur point on a argument i never made is little SUS. Leslie Jones is a different story all together, as a black person sometimes you got to read the script and decide if this is respectful to me and my people, or am i just playing a Trope?

I have a distinct memory where my family and I went to see this movie in theatres, I was young and stupid at the time. And because of that, I assumed that when the actors were talking without their mouths moving, I thought they were promoting some voodoo or satanic stuff or something and I ran out of the theatre crying. The editing was so bad it actually made me link it back to Satan.

The stupid "OMG female only!" drama which overshadowed the real problems only made worse when people took it seriously and responded... the "if you hate this your sexist" thing.... cringe.... So when i saw it, i was already jaded. The upgraded weapons woulda made more sense as a sequel too. The effects were a bit too much... the bright blue coulda used another pass through the transparency filter

@@Kopiefilms In regards to characters? Definitely, they could've cut Podcast out, his character is barely used and makes no sense in this. Finn Wolfhart I feel kinda bad for, he did get more in Afterlife, but not really anything of substance that I recall, and he got even less here. I did go in having seen a spoiler free review who's only real complaint was that there were too many characters, and they didn't get enough screen time, so that didn't really bother me, especially as it's obviously they're still building up the universe, if'n there's a third Gen2 movie, I think that one'll be the best as they've got everything set up.

I agree with you, and I grew up with the original. I also think Holtzmann and Slimer are the best part of this movie. To me there are some fatal flaws : the editing, too many ad-libs and gross out humor that didn’t need to be there (the queef joke, a lot of dialogue about poop). Also maybe the atmosphere could have been more terrifying or cinematic. But I liked everything else. I especially enjoy the cartoony nature of the ghost and some of the characters. As a fan of cartoons like especially Looney Tunes I don’t think “cartoony” is necessarily a bad thing when it is executed in a funny way. I think Kate McKinnon looks exactly like a cartoon character here and I loved her for that. And the Neon ghosts and Slimer’s mischiefs are also very funny. I also like Kevin , except when he confuses his eyes with his ears, yes that may be cartoony but it would be dumb even for Patrick Star. And with a human character it just doesn’t seem believable. Other than that I thought some of his other traits were funny, like for example using glasses without lenses, I can totally see how a hipster himbo like him could use them only to appear cool or smart.

This film is an anomaly. Very funny and talented people making it, but NONE of it was funny. Not one joke landed. Just a lot of meandering, screaming and slapstick-y behavior. Hemsworth wasn't comically stupid, he acted like a special needs individual. The FX and designs were lackluster. The ghosts all had WAY too much color saturation. And they took them from down on their luck blue collar exterminators and made them into John Wick-esque superheroes. Frozen Empire was great. There was no MCU-ification to it. But this one, they REALLY wanted them to be superheroes. Also, a hero is measured by their villain. What's Keaton's Batman without Nicholson's Joker? Kirk without Khan? Who did this film have? Rowan? So forgettable you had to look up his name 20 minutes later. Without going into any original Ghostbuster comparisons, it's just a BAD film. There's no entertainment value to it. It just wastes your time. And the whole video you tell people to keep an open mind and judge on it's own merits and then call Frozen Empire "trash." That just made your entire video hypocritical.

I’m glad to hear you liked Frozen Empire even when I couldn’t find any enjoyment and I’m sorry to hear that comment threw you off! You’ve got some solid points here, but ultimately a lot of it comes down to the humor being lackluster for you. Comedy is very subjective and what’s funny to me may not be funny to you. As I said in the video, I also did not like Rowan. I thought he was just whatever and forgettable. However, him being a boring villain doesn’t ruin my enjoyment of the film in its entirety. This movie is the textbook example of an amazing cast wasted on a terrible film. The plasticy cinematography robs it of the dramatic gravity that balances out the humour of the other films, and that bold choice ends up compounding the movie's other flaws. Studio meddling could be blamed for the editing, but there's no saving the script; and the four GBs (and Hemsworth) valiantly tried. I felt robbed of the amazing movie GB 2016 could have been if it kept the exact same cast, but combined them with an all new script and a different director.

For me i like ghostbusters 2016 and still i do but i think there could be improvements and extra scenes like the ghostbusters 2016 lego dimensions added and i think they should bring back the deleted scenes because i think they are good and adds character and i think people are just overreacting

I respect your opinin but yes you will like it if it was the first ghostbusters movie you watched as a kid. Totally understand that, this is your nostalgia, but afterlife, and frozen empire is fan service and nostalgia to the og fans and fans of the cartoons, maybe thats why you didnt like it. 2016 was just bad, but maybe im to old.. and 2016 slimer was not slimer. He was ugly.. lol 😆 🤣 i know thats an oxymoron. Anyways frozen empire will always trump 2016, was not a perfect movie but it was good and had amazing fan service.

Maybe I should’ve clarified, the first GB movies I’ve ever seen were 1 and 2 with my dad as a kid. I’ve just only seen 2016 and Frozen Empire in theaters. Also, glad to hear you liked Frozen Empire! Even though I saw the originals first, I def don’t have the same nostalgia as someone who grew up with only the first two. 2016 came out when I was around 11 years old, so that definitely has a part to play in my enjoyment of it. But I do think there are some non subjective redeeming qualities about it that often get overlooked, which is what I was trying to point out in the video. But you’re absolutely right, I think growing up with these two teams as opposed to just the one impacted my enjoyment of Afterlife and FE. Thanks sm for leaving your take in the comments, I love reading these :)

Yes, Yes, it really is that bad, chock full of forced humor and slap stick nonsense. Looked like a 5 minute SNL skit streched out to 2 hours. The movie had a few moments that were fun but the other 90 % of the movie was just stupid. The original GB worked because they took it somewhat serious and even had elements of actual horror.

It's fine. I like it well enough. It's as good as GB2, and honestly, I respect it more than I do Afterlife. Afterlife has a REALLY weird tone. I think people forgot that what everyone liked about Ghostbusters, the thing that "worked" about it more than anything else, is how funny it is. Afterlife takes this nostalgic bordering on religious view of the original and leans waaaaay too hard on "Look! It's a twinkie! Look! It's the Ecto-1! Look! It's the original Ghostbusters! Does it make sense for them to have suddenly showed up? Nope! Did Venkman just break his hip when they got knocked down? Probably, but try not to think about that! It's ghost Spengler, that's not morally questionable, is it? Wasn't the original Ghostbusters movie SO GOOD?" I mean, yeah, in fact if it wasn't for my gf I probably would've just turned off Afterlife to watch that instead.

Frrrr, it comes off as pander-y and uninspired imo. The sequel is pretty terrible too with its overstuffed cast and lazy writing. GB 2016 at least tried to do something new, where the newest series is just riding the coattails of a film from 40 years ago

It didn’t rlly come off that way to me. Their chemistry definitely isn’t as good as the original gang, but I thought they worked off of each other pretty well. I do agree that some of the humor is a bit dragged out, but in other places it’s wayyyyy too fast. All of that has to do w the garbage editing tho. Happy to hear you liked the newer movies! They’re just not for me. They come off as much more incompetently made imo, primarily in the writing. They rlly need Dan Akroyd back in the writers room, that would help these new entries like 2016 and the Afterlife duology to feel like the original style of 1 and 2. Thanks sm for your comment and for watching. I love reading different perspectives :)

2016 gave us The Huntsman Winter War, Allegiant, and Gods of Egypt. But only Ghostbusters, a perfectly mediocre movie, got crapped on as hard as it did. “Because it ruined my childhood”. Wah. Wah. It’s an objectively no better or worse a movie than Ghostbusters 2. Which you don’t remember. No one remembers it. And no one would remember this one if it didn’t have an all female cast. Asked and answered.

You owe Vigo the Carpathian an apology. That painting alone is more memorable than any of the other movies you mentioned.
