Gordon: Thomas is not a toy Mattel: I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that

If this had been made during the Brenner Era, it would probably be up there with Legend of the Lost Treasure, Blue Mountain Mystery and the Adventure Begins as among the best specials ever put out.

What I love about this film is Gordon & James are not like what the were in Thomas & the Magic Railroad. They're actually Thomas' other best friends besides Percy because they stick up for him for once.

No clue why I never thought of this, but the bridge collapses when Spencer travels across it, but then Thomas and Hiro go on the other track without a second thought. *AND THEN THE CRANE LIFTS SPENCER ONTO THE TRACK, PUSHING AN EQUAL AMOUNT OF FORCE INTO THE ALREADY BROKEN BRIDGE*

The night time scene art the shed where all the engines reassure Thomas is what really touches me. It's happy and heart filling and like a huge supportive group coming in to cheer me right up whenever I'm all down in the dumps or something.

I really love Hero of The Rails! It is a great movie for me due to the teamwork and all the engines sticking up for Thomas and supporting him. None of the Sodor engines are cheeky, vain, pompous or boastful. It's just wonderful.

Of course Thomas tells Percy about Hiro! That's what best friends do, right? That's another thing I love about this movie. Like the other engines, Percy is also very supportive of Thomas and still a best friend of him like he always was.

I like this movie. Not only did they do a creative thing by making Spenxcer the antagonist, but they introduced Hiro and Victor. Two engines of different ethnicities, quite progressive

It’s weird that Hero of the Rails is kind of forgotten given it’s the first appearance of Hiro, Kevin and Victor as well as being the series’s biggest visual makeover since Season 3.

Aside from a lot of unnecessary narration, I love this movie! It definitely feels mature at points and it's one of the strongest aspects about it!

Well STH isn't the controller of the MSR so he wouldn't know about Duke being left, the old station he found it not abanded it, Great Waterton I think they explained why it was abanded.

I remember when I was like 7 or 8, seeing the promotional materiel for Hero of the Rails, and wanting to watch it so badly, my dad caved and borrowed it from the public library.

Never mind. JNR D51 were built in 1936 anyway which means it'd have been impossible for Hiro to arrive on the island before any of the NWR engines not to mention his basis runs on meter gauge. This whole special is rendered moot

I just rewatched it recently too. I was surprised at how good it was. It really gets slept on. This movie has flaws of course but it has so much charm and sweetness which I love. Great video

As much as it’s forgotten, But I didn’t even though I have not watched this movie, in PBS Kids, and didn’t have the DVD, but let’s not forget that this is where the CGI came out and new animation. and that We finally get to hear all the Engines talk and have their own voices.

if this movie's taught me anything, it's that spencer is willing to murder if it comes down to it.

As far as the specials go, I thought the CGI was alright and I liked most of the voices. (Henry's didn't seem to match all that well though) Really the only issue I had was the narration with all the rhyming and literation which sadly would continue in many of the next few specials.

Given the world situation at the time (it has to be remembered that Hiro had arrived on Sodor during the 1920s, and the show at this point was in the 1960s), it does seem possible that the necessary parts would have never arrived given the bad relations between the UK and Japan at that time.

I rewatched this movie recently and, wow was I amazed by how soft it is! At its core, Hero of the Rails is just the Steam Team coming together to help a friend in need and it shows how Sharon Miller and her writing team were sometimes able to make something great if they didn't have 1. The higher-ups at Hit breathing down their necks and 2. Being stuck with that awful Thomas bible Abi Grant made. A scene that springs to mind for me is about mid-way through the movie when Thomas asks Hiro what he thinks about when he's alone, and Hiro says that he misses his home since talking to Thomas and his friends about it. In a brilliant moment of considering Hiro's feelings, and likely knowing he'd feel the same way if he was ever away from Sodor, Thomas tells him how Percy is getting the last part they need and when he assures Hiro he won't have to be alone anymore... Ahhhh, that got me so hard! How did this movie turn out so good?!
