It's not that we really hate change, we just hate how it changed. Go back as far as S5, that's when they stopped using railway series books to adapt and went with their own stories. S5 is my favorite season and is one of the most beloved seasons in the entire franchise. Change has been done before in the franchise, but the difference between S5 and what Mattel is doing, is that they gave a damn. Season 5 was beautifully executed, amazing sets and engaging action and stories and amazing narration. S5 was handled with care, passion and love and I would argue that it is one of if not the most popular season. So change has been done before, what matters is HOW they handle the change and it's complete bullshit how people say "well you don't like change." Change can be fine if handled with care, again, IT'S BEEN DONE BEFORE. This is just horrible, I have been following the franchise practically since I was born in 2003. I have had VHS's of the franchise, lived through the HiT and Sharon Miller Era, the Brener era, and now I am seeing all this shit. I am 18 years old now and I will forever love thomas even if it gets ruined I will cherish what I grew up with.

I doubt Cocomelon will have an adult following. The reason Thomas has an adult following was because it didn't play down to children. My stepfather used to watch Thomas with my step brother and he enjoyed the show as much as the child. Caillou for example had been around since 1997 and is there an adult following with that show? HiT Entertainment handled their shows including Thomas better then Mattel. They weren’t perfect but at least they did show respect and showed that they cared for their audience.

A three year old has even said “That’s not Thomas!” & It’s even gotten to the point of genuine tears & I totally understand why. As a person with autism like some of these kids, I can say that change can be a fucking huge pill to swallow & especially at two years old coz there’s seemingly no reason for that change especially at such a young age. At that age you can’t really think of a reason why something is happening & you’re either happy or sad about how life progresses from that change & whether or not things will get better from that point going forward. Going off what you said about growing up alongside the series, we still have kids in the fandom under 10 who’s first exposure to Thomas was the Brenner era & upon seeing that, have since stuck by after going on KZfaq learning the show’s routes, seeing the plethora of fan content out there & just how so much people have so much of a connection to this franchise. No matter what happens to the show itself, it’ll be content creators like you & me who will strive to keep this brand alive & inspire the younger & newer people who come across this fandom & after they find the classic series on this website, they will be in love with it forever.

The idea of anthropomorphic trains jumping from one train track to the next sounds great on paper. But considering how realistic the railway and original TV series were, I'm like 'Hang on a minute!' Watching this review makes me so glad to have been born in 1995 and grow up watching the first five seasons in the late 90's and early 00's. Booting veteran characters like Edward, Henry, and Toby from the Steam Team and keeping non-Awdry characters like Emily was bad enough. But rebooting the show in a 2D form when there was nothing wrong with its 3D form? Like, come on!

What you said at the very end is true. We don't have to bicker about the reboot or end friendships or anything like that. It proves skeptics towards adult Thomas fans right, the fact that Thomas is for "babies or children." That makes us look bad. I'm not crazy about the reboot, and you are right. It wouldn't have to get such harsh treatment if it didn't replace the main series but actually ran along with it. Mattel needs to stop ignoring the adult fan base.

I feel bad. I as well grew up with the original Thomas and Friends cartoons and seeing a reboot like this really makes me miss the originals.

If it makes you feel better, apparently the target demo, kids, think it's an ugly baby show. Not my words. But the words of actual kids. 🤣

"Thomas is a baby show" is BS, it wasn't meant to be at the beginning, sure it was a series of books for children, but not freaking toddlers, but more developed children and even their parents that can appreciate the subtle moral messages of the stories. That was Awdry's reason for making it. Remember, Disney created Disneyland not just for kids, but for kids and their parents together because those kids will grow up and keep coming back and bring their own kids.

I officially HATE the 2020s. It is the decade of just KILLING everyone's lives and childhood. 2010s one is enjoyable both for kids AND adults.

Another reason why the HiT era was so good, The Great Discovery was a great closure to the model era with a great story and pretty much every character was developed at that point. But the cgi era got Thomas animal friends or the royal engine which weren’t even good episodes.

Do you know what the worst part is? We never got a behind the scenes look for All Engines Go. No interviews, no footage of the voice actors recording their lines, no shots of how they produced it, no tour of the animation facility, no podcasts, nothing. It feels as if Mattel and Nelvana are too ashamed of their own creation to show us the making of the series and it’s movie Race for the Sodor Cup.

I was born in 2006 but my uncle gave me the episodes of Thomas from the classic era and the hit era (not fully hot era since it cut out after gordans crash with the jam wagons) I remember being in awe everytime I opened my computer to watch those episodes especially the crashes and specials. All those got yetted tho after the pc got upgraded from windows 7 to 10 so I went to yt and searched for modern episodes. I wish I did not do that. Like they went from awe inspiring sceneries models and scenes to screaming Henry, glowstick engines who's whole personality was "gotta go fast" and Percy on god Percy, he went from a fun guy to a literal baby. And toby went from a old sage to the anxiety ridden one. I so wish I could go back in time to where only the model seriese was the Thomas i saw. And not THEY MADE IT LITERALLY BABY WHYYYY

I realized something after watching the She Ra reboot (by Mattel). It's not Mattel's corporate figureheads fault, but rather the fault of the small team handling Thomas (Rick Suavalle, Ian Mcue) literally having no idea on what they are doing.

Thomas AEG is made to key into this new screen brain zapped generation. From the early signs it does look like it's very successful. It's a baby show and so forth, because they don't know what they're talking about, and they really hurt our feelings when they say that. Because if we grew up with the show, and learn of how the show was made. When it first started with the Railway Series books, and how the books were inspired when they were written and so on, based on real life British railways. And based on real life British engines, and the show is in realism at the same time. So other adults would find out and when we tell them about it that that's the truth behind Thomas so they can stop judging us. And they can stop telling us to grow up. When they get to know all of that and understand all of that, they have to realize that Thomas is one of those that makes us fall in love with trains. Before we get to experience a real life train when we are toddlers at first, and when we grow up with real life trains and think that Thomas is part of it all. And if we get to work for all of that, those adults that just tell us to grow up, it's a baby show and so forth. They need to realize that we just want to be happy, and we want to try to make the world a better place. Because having entertainment with trains, and that they are brought to life as characters in a make believe world. And they're based on realism, is one of the things that we love so much. And that we try to blend it all together when we grow up on real trains and try to work for real trains, just to make other people happy and make the world a better place. Without all of that, we as Thomas fans and fans of railroads and railways would be nothing, and the world would not be happier without all of that as well. So because we grew up with all of that, I know that we as fans want to make people happy and make the world a better place as well. Making the world a better place with something that we grew up with, and share it with everybody else. Including the mix of realism, of something that inspired it can blend in even with good entertainment and even stories. Is the most important thing to make other people happy, when we share and talk about all of those things that we grow up with. And inspire us to do something that is real, and that realism inspired the phenomenon of whatever we grew up with, so other people can be happy with it. Especially new generations of kids, and if we just stick to ideas like that that is one of the greatest and happiest moments we can do to make the world a better place. Doing all that to make the world a better place, with no controversy, no anger sometimes but above all no war. So we can get together with other people as a team to make it all work, and that other people when they enjoy it with lots of happiness they can get along with other people especially us fans👍😉

As Mr. Enter said when he reviewed the Teen Titans GO! episode The Return of Slade 6 years ago, kid’s programming needs extra care! I have no idea why Matt£l would do THIS to Thomas! They fucked up once with Bwubah and they fucked up again with this! And it’s showing! Seen the recent press coverage on how families and small children are NOT taking this Thomas retooling at all well? AEG is doomed to fail, needs the tax writeoff treatment and Matt£l, if what I’ve heard about them being in financial trouble is true, should just sell Thomas to a company who’d actually care! If I ran Channel 4, I’d get back into the kids TV business and buy Thomas off Matt£l in a heartbeat! I’d rerun the model seasons and get to work on a new series, retelling existing stories, adapting RWS stories not originally adapted for TV, have original stories and even retell the HiT era’s better stories! I’d also give the existing seasons 1-24 full DVD (re)releases, the older seasons using the original footage, even including the nameboards! (I’d source footage from foreign language masters if I have to!)

The hit eras not too entirely bad. Season 6 was not perfect cause of Alecs divorce. Season 7 is my number one favorite Thomas season of all time! I would say only good thing for the Miller era is hero of the rails I only like all engines go because Neil crone plays gordon and they brought back bulstrode

I am going to be honest, I now know how bad the Sharon Miller era was unlike when I was younger watching the Sharon Miller era but I'll say nowadays, the Sharon Miller era looks like season 5 compared to AEG if I am honest. I mean, the Sharon Miller era had the laziest basic writing findable in a Thomas & Friends episode but what Mattel did to Thomas & Friends?! Absolute bullshit. What Mattel did to Thomas & Friends was an absolute disaster that was nothing like what the show was supposed to be. Going back to the Sharon Miller era, I say its season 5 compared to AEG because although the writing was horrendous, it stuck to the basic concept of the show since it looked nothing like a cartoon and didn't have the engines, rolling stock and etc moving their own bodies in uncanny ways. In the Nitrogen era however, the characters' bodies were only moving and bouncing around since the animators wanted to represent momentum in the engines and everything while Mattel is the one who makes the characters' bodies move in uncanny ways. This also carried on to the BWBA era which also was a great faliure like AEG and also was a sign that Thomas & Friends was about to die. For the BWBA era, they also had very bland around the world sets with a lack of effort put in for the individual sets, downgraded the animation possibly because of the many around the world sets, and replaced Henry and Edward for horrible reasons. And I am telling you, Nia and Rebecca will never be as good as Henry and Edward since they don't have the proper character development and that they replaced very original characters like I said. The BWBA era went on for about three seasons before AEG was unveiled and to no one's surprise, it was just horrible. They completely butchered the show and turned it into a 2D toddler cartoon as we all know it and this time the show likely won't come back unfortunately. And I will say, the Sharon Miller era really did nearly destroy the franchise and all but at least Andrew Brenner came in and tried to fix those problems luckily until Mattel messed up Thomas & Friends again but for good pretty much. If Thomas & Friends were to come back to normal, we don't know what would be done to fix it and we don't know who would try to save this franchise again for right now so, yeah it's pretty much dead and likely won't be coming back. RIP Thomas & Friends 1984 - 2021, the show will be missed by many people and Mattel will just continue to go through hell with backlash as we all know it.

I don't like the reboot one bit at all, but I do think its a bit over hated. There are a few elements of the reboot that I like, being: Neil Crone reprising his role as Gordon, Bulstrode making a return is nice to see, and ignoring the fact that this is a Thomas series the artstyle is honestly kinda enjoyable to look at. Again I don't like the reboot at all but the criticism is excessive and partially undeserved. As much as I hate to say it Thomas was doomed to go this route eventually, but at least we have the rws, the Model series, and the Brenner seasons to continue enjoying til the end of time.
