Total punch’s landed Whittaker 232 of those 160 were jabs so hooks uppercuts and right hands were only 72 that landed. Let’s look at Oscar total punch’s landed 191 of those 45 were jabs. So hooks uppercuts and right hands landed 146. So who is the better fighter? Who won the fight? I’d agree with the judges.

Sweet P schooled Oscar. To his credit, Oscar tried adjustment after adjustment after adjustment, but nothing worked. Whitaker was brilliant, and deserved the win (same as he did with Chavez and Ramirez).

He actually outboxed Nd punched Tito . His only fault was cruising the last two Rds .. He gave him a fckin' Boxing lesson [Before BHop did at the Garden] You call it running , Tito didn't nd wasn't able to do much with DLH that nite [Without the judges]

De La Hoya resulted to going back to the amateurs as far how he threw his punches , Pernell was controlling the fught even though in defense of Oscar he made the fight close , but Pernell was the vet with more skilled and Oscar was a great fighter with a solified resume Whitaker was by far was Oscar's toughest opponent

@@lilpan1187 De La Hoya only scored some glancing "power" shots that never got Sweet Pea into any kind of danger. While Sweet Pea outboxed, outjabbed and outscored De La Hoya, while also scoring more knockdowns against a 10 yr younger fighter. Not even mentioning Sweet Pea's ring generalship and his entertainment value. It was a commercial and financial decision made beforehand to be able to milk as much money as possible from the "Golden Boy", please face that.

Those days were gone before you/I were even born. Boxing is scored by three judges, round by round, with a 10 point must system. Whitaker was hitting and not getting hit (boxing).

sad boxing treats its legends like this. Guy was the champ, clearly won 7 of 12 rounds and dropped him. he won the fight. Was in full control with his jab alone.

@alexandrosanchez6501 I like Delahoya. He's a great boxer. I think he could have been one of the only boxers to defeat Floyd Mayweather if he would have changed his plan and fought his traditional style. With that being said Pernell Whitaker was another level. You couldn't touch him. He outclassed his opponents and made it look too easy. In my opinion , he's one of the best underrated pound for pound boxers ever. He left out the fight exactly the way he went in because Delahoya clearly could not connect any meaningful shots the entire fight. It was clearly a robbery and why so much controversy surrounds the that situation.

Oscar beat him convincingly.. Simple as that.. First 5 rounds straight easily, could of still been 7 or 8 straight. Would been an even larger gap if not for the trip that was ruled a knockdown.
