I have easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials "do it yourself" (DIY) videos to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers and zero turn mowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed whacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, zero turn mower, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

You can also remove the metering diaphragm for the fuel to come out if your carburetor doesn't have a primer bulb!

One point I would like to make after several years of fixing two stroke engines and the few comebacks I experienced. With the purge bulb carburetors, a dishonest customer can still get one over on you if they switch the straight gas to the proper mixed gas by pumping the purge several times to introduce the mixed gas into the carburetor and bulb. They can't do this with the non-purge carbs, as the bowl cannot accept the fuel unless the engine has been run or at least pulled the starter several times to get the fuel into the bowl.

In my part of Ohio I see blue 2stroke oil 99% of the time. I have seen twice a 2 stroke oil that when mixed with gasoline that has ethanol in it turn orange. If it mixed with ethanol free gasoline it has a blue tint. Don't know the brand but a concrete sawing company was using it. Their saws where Husqvarna and ICS.

What a great way to check for the proper 2-stroke fuel after zero compression and/or seeing the damage after removing the cylinder. The downside is that if the person knows this procedure, he can press the bulb after changing the fuel to 2-stroke. If he knows the difference in the way a purge bulb and a primer bulb works, he could disassemble the carb, dump it and fill the bulb again, but man would that be deceitful! However, if he knew this procedure, he would probably not use straight gas in the first place. I'm guessing, but it's the lack of oil that causes zero compression because it ruins the rings and scored the cylinder. If you saw that and the gas in the carb looked like 2-stroke, would straight gas be obvious or could other things do that? Can warranty claims be cheated like that? Thank you, Don. Great detective work!

By canned fuel I assume you mean premixed two-stroke gas.. Well my dad blew up two Stihl MS391 saws (0ne was brand new)... using pre-mixed two stroke gas, the gas was bought at a reputable dealer.. Didn't occur to us that there might be something wrong with the gas until the second and brand new MS391bit the dust, but it turned out when when put some of the gas on a sheet of paper that there was next to no oil in the gas.. My dad usually mixes the two stroke gas him self, but bought som pre-mixed gas when there was a sale.. so it can happen even with canned/premixed fuel.. Did a top end rebuild on the saws with aftermarket cylinder kits, and got them running, and running well at that again.. never done that before I did the fist rebuild, so it was a challenge to myself to see if I could pull it off at all 🙂

@@garyalensr I would guess that what happened in our case must have been a rare "freak accident" at the factory that made the pre-mix gas but as we where told by an employee at "felleskjøpet" here in Norway, they weigh the product during the production process and You can bet any report would say that there was no anomalies , and as there's no way to prove that there was something wrong with the gas, an that we didn't straight gas the saws... we where basically s**t ot of luck.. The MS391 costs around Nok 9.000 to 13.000 (USD 865 to 1254) here in Norway.. My dad was quoted around Nok 6-7000 (USD 579 to 675 with the current exchange rates) for a top end rebuild by Felleskjøpet who is an authorised Stihl dealer in 2021.. So having a professional shop do the work made no financial sense at all.. Excluding some tools that we had to purchase (torque wrenches, torx-bits and torx-screwdrivers and som other bits and bobs) I belive I came out at around half the cost quoted by the authorized dealer.. I went into the "project" with the attitude that if nothing else I would at least learn something from trying.. so when the feeling when the first saw started after the rebuild the feeling was priceless.. And due to having the work done my a shop was so expensive the only other alternative to giving it a go fixing the saws myself was to scrap them..

Just purchased an MS460 that apparently "runs great" on Ebay........Pull it out of the box, fuel line is broken, can't start it, so I inspect further and Piston is Cooked!!.....so it's a good thing the fuel line was broken, otherwise I would have started it up, and burned it completely!! The cylinder was totally fine and basically untouched,(aluminum burns Much faster than Chromed Steel).....but I suspect the owner ran Gas threw it for 1 minute, shut it off RIGHT as the piston was cooking, and got lucky....then threw it on ebay, totally unaware he damaged it. But anyways, I requested a $50 Refund for a new Piston, and to my surprise he agreed....I wanted a Meteor Brand piston, something basically as Good as OEM, that's fair.....I wasn't going to stick some $10 china piston in there, for something that was His fault in the first place.....OEM quality is fair!

I was taught to put half the gas in the container with the oil and shake it. Then do it again when it it full. Also it may not be you since oil is so very soluble with gas additives. The oil vendor could have made a bad batch. That is really hard to prove. As a chemist they teach us to test blanks with many of our solutions as well as our containers for contamination. Although I am primarily someone that dealt with water, 2 cycle oil separating after mixing seems like quite a stretch.
