Was Resident Evil 7 Really THAT Scary? [Review]

The one that Capcom envisioned after waking up from a cold sweat and realizing what the best thing to do with the franchise was. It's a return to the series' roots for sure, but just how scary is Resident Evil 7 and how well does it capture that same feeling from the older games. Let's find out!

What I like the most about RE7’s combat is that it feels like the ultimate survival combat This is the only game in the series where you play as a normal human being scrapping his way to survival And combat scenarios being rare really accentuates that plus it makes the bosses hit harder than most bosses in the series Jack and Marguerite became instant classics for a reason

I really liked how, despite being a nice southern mansion at one point, none of the furnishings in the Baker house seem much older than about the 80's - despite the game taking place in 2017. it felt like a bit of environmental storytelling on who the family were as people/characters pre-infection. I also just really like a good, spooky southern mansion. You don't see it quite as much as it's gothic/Victorian mansion counterpart.

Yeah I didn't talk about it here but the Banned Footage tape that lets you explore the Baker house just before they turn and then right after was a really neat look into what the overall place was like before the game. It feels like a well lived-in place overall. I also thought about how the VHS tapes are a bit weird too with it being the late 2010s but then thought about how those tapes could have been old family videos that were taped over with the Banned Footage/tapes we find. Cool stuff there to think about I'll probably return to make a video about the tapes themselves at some point.
