In today’s video we are installing a four prong plug from a three prong dryer wired plug.
Please be careful if you are not confident and have a professional install it for you.
Wire in a dryer is one of the number one mistakes people make. Especially when you go to a fort wrong wire system. I hope this easy how to guide will walk you through it.

August 27,202. I am 74 year old lady. I had no problem removing old pigtail. Installing new 1 made me stop. I had no idea what to do with the EXTRA white cord. I watched several videos. You are the ONLY person who addressed this issue. Thumbs UP to you. Thumbs DOWN to the rest

Exactly what I was looking for - wasn’t entirely sure what to do with ‘extra’ neutral wire, based on the diagram on my dryer. You explained it so clearly, I was confident in the placement. Also managed not to drop my screws! Lol

Recently moved into a condo, where there was a 3-prong dryer plug. I was getting a shock touching the dryer. I decided to switch to 4-prong, so of course I had to replace the outlet, too. I found that the ground wire had never been attached to the 3-prong outlet at all; in fact, it had been snipped off in the box. It's bad enough that it's supposed to share the neutral terminal, to say nothing of being left off completely! It's a good lesson in why the 3-prong is a bad design. Luckily, there was enough left for me to pigtail onto the ground and get a solid installation on the 4-prong.

Count me in for throwing that thing away. lol Here is how I have solved the problem of losing that screw or losing that nut if it slips out and falls down. I lay a blanket on the floor and lay the dryer on its front. Everything is much easier to work on with it laying on it's front..... heating element.... thermal fuse.... etc. You could also use your dolly, just flip it forward. Also, a magnetic head really helps on not losing screws. The first time I lost a screw in over 3 years was just today and that was because I was looking to my right at a white dress that the wind was blowing up.... and some how the screw fell inside the dryer.... my fault. lol

Dropping them screws/bolts as he said is easy to do. So if you are doing this as much as I do, the solution to avoid dropping them screws inside the machine is simple. You can take a card board and cut it to size with fingers that go in between them terminals and that will guide the screws out on the ground if it falls and not inside the machine. I made mine out of sheet metal and made the outside end of it so it will hold the screws instead of sliding out to the ground. I simly unscrew the screws and let it go. They will stay right on the metal plate for me. No problem.

A magnetized screw driver works too. (Rusty) (I dropped two screws inside the machine before my genius ass thought of it).

@@dianakesl1814 Indeed. I actually have magnetized nut driver and there are damn times the screws are dog gone flat heads if you know what I mean. And sometimes they seem to be copper/brass or something that the dang magnets don't grab.

@@alchemy1 Chinese metal can be any mixture of trash metals. I bought "stainless steel" bolts for my sailboat that rusted out in a year. I lost two screws and tried to turn the dryer upside down but that didn't work either. I tried to take off the back panel to get them ,nope. Other screws turned backwards holding on the back panel. Here I am writing down the screw and thread size so I can drive 30 miles to go buy two new screws. The best thing to do is make a piece of cardboard and tape it in the bottom of the hole so you don't lose the screws, haha!! (Rusty)

I just bought a used dryer from someone that has a 4-prong and Im curious to know how they were able to get their dryer to work at all with the way they connected the wires. They connected the green wire to the center along with the white neutral of the plug. The other white wire is where the green one should be as the ground attached with the green screw to the case. I need to convert from 4-prong to 3-prong which is what had me looking to begin with and was initially so confused at the set-up as it was different from every video I have watched for how 4-prong wires should look. Is it because the green and white jumper both serve as neutral?

I am working on a Maytag switching out the dryer cord to a Fwy, Paul Meadowbrook Hartford White is each which one you got white green, black, red blue and each terminal and there’s no white wire connected to the dryer so I can move it to the ground somebody give me a hand here I’m screwed

My "old white" wire connected to the 5/16 isn't white, it's actually green with a yellow stripe. Is that the same thing - still double it up with the new white neutral on the terminal?

Hello I have the same dryer (MEDB2OOVQ0) and I keep getting a the L2 and PF error code. I found out that I had a loose screw on the terminal block. I think the previous owner did what you described in the video and used a screw with a different threat pattern because none of the screws that came with the dryer will secure on tightly on the right hot side l. I looked on the website u provided and I couldn’t find any terminal blocks any other places I can look to get this item?

Wired mine just like this I have 240 at my outlet and 240 at the end of the wires at the terminal block …. From neutral to hot I’m still carrying 240 instead of 120 what is going on why Wont my machine start
