Wasp and stink bug, caterpillar tug of war! A parasitic wasp has chosen this caterpillars head to lay its eggs in, meanwhile a stink bug has started to eat the caterpillar from the other end.
Its rare to see a parasitic wasp laying eggs in a host and it is rare to see a stink bug feeding, but to see a wasp and a stink bug both selecting the same victim at the same time is one in a million!
The caterpillar that the wasp and stink bug have chosen to prey upon is not a caterpillar but the larvae of a sawfly that are often found feeding on hazel tree leaves in late spring time.
