Here is my Wasteland 3 SMG Mechanic Build, SMG Rangers are actually really good, I'm honestly shocked lol. I have been tickering with SMG Builds and found one that i'm happy with, partnering it with Mechanics allows for some decent protection with Decoy, and extra battlefield control with the turrets and Sawpups. It also a lot of of fun to run and gun with an SMG! :)

Interesting. The more you listen to different kind of build up guide the more you start to understand how many different ways to play there are.

Dude this freaking game is so fucking amazing, I have only play up to Faran Brygo o Little Vegas and I feel so damn fulfill that I kinda want to stop playing because if I finish the game I won't have anything good to play for a while

There is different endings in the game depending what paths you took in the game. So worth playing again and again and try different styles and different hoice paths.

So many great builds keep it up dude cant wait to put them to use but crashes on console are way too frequent for me to sit down and enjoy the game currently

So I've been looking for SMG builds, because my SMG/blades psychopath from Wasteland 2 was one of my favorite characters in terms of roleplay. Looking at serial killer to get a similar kind of character in this game. So far I've seen two builds, the other one is a scientist that uses weird science and elemental weapons to overcome the low penetration of SMG weapons, but I like this idea of using mechanics to take advantage of the mobility of an SMG build.

Snap! I think smg flanking is awesome. Being really aggressive in this game as oppesed to playing defense is a breath of fresh air in the CRPG genre. Xcom shall never be as fun as WL3 agian XD. The strats and possibilities have me so invested.

well, in WL3, you are "a ranger" you are a trained "soldier". You are meant to keep peace by any means necessary...you have: man power, wepons and resources. It's lore friendly that you and your team can one shot some raiders goons in the first turn. In XCOM2, you are fighting aliens that have ruled over the earth for the last 20+ years with the last tech and warfare tactics available...against you...rebels around the world, armed with ak-47s and kevlar rigs...It's (at least to me) ok that you have to fight extremly defensive the first half of the game, because it makes sense.

I find that having a ranger that unleashes turrets on poor enemies is pretty fun I'm using a shotgun tho

Wow, I made a very similar character and just wanted to see if anyone else had the same idea. :) I'm cooping so my squad uses this SMG/Mechanic and I also havo two snipers - one critical hit/explosion and one charisma/leader for rally and buffs. My partner is using assault rifle, revolver and heavy machine gun. Works pretty good so far but my squad makes most kills of course. :)

damn looks like gopher hunter only affects assault rifles now, could still be helpful if you second an assault rifle

I find this game is really forgiving. Min maxing the perfect build is fine but not required if your playing even semi tactically

woudnt smg be a good second weapon for assault rifle users. U use rifle when u hiding behind covers and u use smg when they come running at u in packs in the open.

Aside from trick shot handgun coupled with shotguns, I have found that focusing on one weapon type and then using an explosive or elemental version of the same weapon almost always yields the best results per character. In addition, I cannot seem to make ARs work at all at end game, putting out very underwhelming damage. Shotguns, sniper rifles, and SMGs will clear out whole rooms, but ARs, pistols, and heavy weapons (flamers included) seem to work best as support weapons, debuffing enemies. And again, a pistol charges precise shots so much faster than ARs do that they even work better as debuff weapons. I have been using both the Lancer and the SOCOM ARs, and they only seem to tickle mobs, even with explosive skill. In all honesty, shotguns and especially the jackhammer need to be nerfed, even for a single player game the jackhammer is way too strong, even with friendly fire on.

John Boyd I agree with pretty much everything here. My original thoughts were that my heavy gunner build was gonna be this huge death dealing machine, but the massive AP cost really doesn’t allow for that. You can mix heavy guns with explosives and make the Nidhogg the best heavy gun in the game, but the stat investment just seems to be too much. On my next playthrough, I’ll definitely be making my heavy guy into a support/healer/leader build. Also, AR’s need a massive buff, they suck ass for sure.

Lockpicking is *the* exploration skill to get Xp from, you need lots of perks and lockpicking doesn't have any - and since you're low on Charisma that's good choice for him. Mechanics however... This character needs to killl stuff. Kill and kill more. Throwing turrets around is such a waste of AP on him. I prefer Mechanics on slow, static characters such as heavy gunners or snipers. For the majority of the game, they'll have one shot and then some AP to spare, but not enough to do something else; and one rarely needs to move them. Second, disabling Generators in combat negate the xp you get for killing the turret, so I prefer to kill them and disable the generator after the battle for more xp. If you forego mechanics on this character, he has points to spare and I'd advise first investing in small arms to 7 for the reload / free shot perk. Once you get the Ripper, get the -1AP to fire Magazine. Once you have the 7 ranks in Small Arms [do this sooner than later, add to Brawling. The speed bonus you get from it is great.

I hope in the future they balance out assault rifles there is no reasson to use them right now.

well you can get your hands on the Meat Maker pretty early in the game (if you have high rep). It's a Tier 18 elite assault rifle, that you can get around lvl 10 or so (maybe ever earlier). If your build is focused on Assault Rifles and Sneaky Shit, the first hit of that weapon (with the right mods and skills) is way too high...plus if you have double tap the next one is 100% crit so yeah...with the enforcer as your secondary, as a trooper, you will carry most of the fights alone.
