Hi Chris and Aaron! Awesome information on these ebikes and transport! Thank you very much for sharing your experiences! Your videos are always so informative and well done. Awesome video, we appreciate all the information! We just recently bought ebikes for ourselves, my wife has a Rad and we agree, excellent quality and she loves it. One item that comes up for us, we really have to look ahead at local rules/regs for where we are permitted to ride. Both of our bikes are considered Class 2, and some areas have banned use above Class 1 on their paths (ie Rec Path in Colorado).

I only have one ebike that we share because we don't like leaving our dog alone in the camper. We transport ours inside the camper. Right now it's jammed beside the bed but before that we bungeed it to the the bed frame. Outside, I have a 3/8th plastic covered cable with a pad lock and use a cover I got from Amazon that I lock to the steps. The more out of sight they are the less they will get stolen is my philosophy. Thanks for your video! Always a pleasure to see your smiling faces.🥰

Love my RadRover 6 Plus, have over 1000 miles in the last 4 months. Replaced the freewheel with a 8 speed, much better gear range and no big jump going from 7 to 8th. Thinking about getting a Trek Fuel EXe 9.7 ebike this Fall. Been riding gravel rides and doing some single track and the RadRover is just too heavy! Still will keep the RAD, it will be my fun bike but for long rides over 45 miles, I need an ebike that can be ridden if the battery is dead. Also need to be able to lift to carry around obstacles. I've average 35 to 45 miles with my battery on the RadRover and no problems so far. Great video!

I have a RadRover Step Thru 1. It has about 1150 kms on it and everything works great except the front light hasn't been working, so I use a helmet mounted light. The 4" tires are great. I use panniers for gear. I predominantly use PAS 1&2 with 3 sporadically. Next options will include phone holder, studded tires for winter and possibly a pet/cargo trailer. All my best from Midland Ontario Canada. Be safe.

Year and a half ago. We saw your bike video and because of that video we bought a pair and everything you claimed has held up and we love them all the time. We live in rural farm area and can rack 20 miles at a time uses half battery. We bought a very good rv rated duel rack which we mounted on back of class C or on rear of our Ranger pickup toe vech. We just got back from Monmouth cave national park for a few days. Having the ebikes for a trip like that we don’t take the toe vech. We are surprised how these bikes allow us to go and do so much we could never do on standard bike. Im 65 wife 60 these bikes allow us physically to take dirt roads and shopping You guys do a great job representing Rad and we trusted that review and I’m telling you guys everything you said on the video is as honest a review of these bikes. Thank you. We love them and can’t find a thing we don’t like. Part that sucks is worrying someone is gonna steal them so I gonna order the Apple gps finder and upgrade to a super heavy chain and add the motion directors. Sucks we need to all life our lives this way in America. Thanks from us outside Of Nashville. Tn 😅

I bought two rad rover 6 plus just before getting our rv with an HR1700. Loved the bikes but they are huge, good on off road but the fat tires on asphalt have a lot of drag and noise. My son and I tried to load them on the rack and struggled a lot, it’s not just the weight but the length of the bikes. They will more than likely obstruct your taillights. I decided to sell them an buy two rad rover mini 2 and change to a ramp rack (Kuwat). I can load these very easily by myself, the Kuwat folds up easy and has taillights built in. The mini’s are a better street bike but not even half of the 6 plus on trails, they do however do well on what I will call groomed trails. The Rad Rover 6 Plus is a great bike but IMO not an RV bike.

As a utility/commuter cycling nerd (and I mix in a bit of the fun stuff too like MTB and gravel) I gotta say you two got it wired. No ebike pun intended there. For anyone in general, if you want the ultimate, in my opinion, urban bomber bike truck pup crawler whatever bike easy lock-up then check out frame locks. I'm not so sure they have anything yet though for 3-4" fat tires. Anyway, they mount in the rear triangle so even if a thief can cut it from the frame there's still a big, heavy metal block flopping around back there 100% impeding use. And they're quite awkward to getting an an angle grinder to for cutting, as that method of thievery is so popular. ABUS makes some that have a heavy chain, similar to your Kryptonite, that plugs into the frame lock, for hooking up to stout stuff. So basically it's two locks in one. An overly beefy wheel to frame lock and a very stout chain lock that only needs one key. Super-secure and quick to deploy and put away. But it is heavy. About the same weight of your folder+kryptonite, which is an awesome combo too.

First, thank you so much for previous advise on the Obsidian bike cover and the Kryptonite chain-link lock. We researched and purchased both. Second, when we are in any sketch area (rest area, boondocking, Wal-Mart) we put the bikes on the rack, use the K-lock AND the O-cover. Out of sight, out of theft -mind Second-lastly per the e-bikes, my wife started with a Prodeco, then to a Magnum. I finally bit the e-bullet and bought a Trek Dual Sport - serious upgrade. You get what you pay for. And lastly, as for the use; we now have a Class C Itasca Navion, with the two e-bikes on the hitch rack. As you said, with the trailer and the truck and the e-bikes, you use them less than with the van, but with the class C and the e-bikes, we find them always useful for the grocery, the bike paths and the restaurants. Bien viajes.

My wife and I have the Rad Power minis. Her's is the step thru mini, mine regular. We took them on many trips to get around the campground. Well made and easy to ride. We are both over 70 and the mini allows us to get our feet closer to the ground. And the power assist make biking fun again. One time missing a curb when putting my foot out was a wake up call on the importance of stability when stopping. As we have gotten older, the weight of the bikes have been an issue. I saw a youtube on storing the folding bikes in a tub that fits in the back of our Toad car (SUV). That was helpful for a while. Still 70 lbs is heavy. My wife bought a Jupiter Discovery X5 ebike when Costco had them on sale. They weigh 40 lbs and two bikes fit in the back of the SUV without dropping the back of the rear seats. Although not nearly as sturdy for long distance biking, they work well for our purposes. I don't see a rearview mirror on your bikes. There are a number of good choices out there. We use the Hafny New Handlebar Bike Mirror. Thanks for your great youtube programs!

Solid primer on e-bikes. We own the same Rad Bike model and love it. Had a battery failure but Rad quickly replaced it. Great customer service! You touched on charging, but if you don't have an inverter (ORV doesn't come with one) then I'd assume you can only going to charge the bikes when connected to shore power. Is there a dry camping work around for those without inverters?

Hey Lewis 👋 There is no official Rad power bikes 12 volt charger , but I’ve heard of some people making or buying them off Amazon. The cheapest, easiest , and safest would probably be to just buy a small inverter that plugs into a 12v cigarette lighter port. This one is 300 watts and only 30$ bucks. amzn.to/3dHFsMF

Wow. What a great timely video for me. Want to get one before I leave this winter so started about a week ago doing research. I am more confused now than ever. I have the room and will carry mine in my rig but have been looking at the folding versions. I do not want the 20 inch tires as I am 6 foot 2 and 250. Also old but still very capable but that will change at some point. I like to shop local when I can but have not found what I want locally. Also I want great customer service and it seems like so many bikes are just branded different but the same bike and just a pass thru kind of operation. The reason I want folding is for the handle bars. Would make storage much easier as I probably won't fold the bike but would put the handle bars down. Maybe mount it higher and keep my helmet on for banging on the handle bars as I walk by. If any one has some ideas I am open to all suggestions. Anyway way to long again but thanks for another great video.

Do you put the green slime in preventively? From reading the description online it looks like it is something you normally use after you've gotten something stuck in the tire. It sounds like it kinda hardens into the hole and that's that. But, if you can "set it and forget it" that sounds excellent.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels Жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s good for 2 years for prevention. I know some sealants are not meant for that like fix a flat for Automobiles. That stuff should only be used when you get a flat and then only to drive to get the tire replaced or repaired. This is what I read from slime “ Use Slime Tube Sealant with an air source to prevent punctures, giving you two years of continuous flat tire protection”

Thanks for the video. Talking about helmet safety, your helmet straps need to be much tighter to be an effective safety device. Please be safe. My best advice for e-bikes is: save at least $5000 to buy a lighter e-bike. My wife and I have Riese Muller Nevo 3's. They are much lighter 40-50 lbs which means the battery will get us 70+ miles per charge. Also they are much easier to get on the back of our motorhome bike rack. More expensive e-bikes have mid drive motors, belt drive and internal transmissions which are maintenance free systems unlike chains. We can charge our 48 volt 500 watt batteries in less than 3 hours. If you plan on getting an e-bike instead of having a car, spending more upfront will save you hundreds if not thousands down the road. Fyi, we spent over $6000 CDN each for our floor model Riese Muller ebikes.

Several problems that steered us away from Rads: The weight. We needed folding models (to fit in our van) and the folding Rad mini is super heavy, although if you’re never lifting it (negating the whole point of a folding bike), it’s a non-issue. They don’t offer hydraulic brakes for added safety. (Probably to keep the price down.) And the quality of the components was minimal. (Same reason, probably.) We went with brands sold by local bike shops so we could test-ride and in case we ever need service. The frustration with shopping for ebikes is the market has exploded with a gazillion makes and models. But beyond the few brands your local shops may carry, if you want to test ride them all, you have to travel across the country and beyond. And to me, test-riding a bike before spending all that money, is pretty important. Granted, Rads are very popular. Lots of people love them.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels Жыл бұрын
Buying local is great thing for sure! 👍 We'll also second the hydraulic brakes as a great safety feature. Rad started last year with them and our Rover 6's have them which we really like. There sure are a lot of bikes that just come shipped over seas and don't offer test rides which can be frustrating for sure. Rad does have test ride stores mostly on the West coast I believe and they also do a 14 day free return for folks as well. Appreciate the comment, thanks! 😊

There are so many new brands of e bikes coming out all the time that you have to be careful and spend your money on a bike from a company that may not be around in the long run, and service or parts will be an issue in the future. I am an avid road cyclist with an 18lb Specialized di-2 bike. Recently I rented an e-bike similar to the Rad adventure to ride about 32 miles on the Michelson Trail in South Dakota. Obviously it was a huge change but I was wondering what ability they have to ride single track and cornering off road (mountain bike trails)? It was just fine on the wide gravel-packed Michelson with slopes of only about 3 degrees and no tight turns but if I get an e-bike I would want it for off-road riding on mountain trails. I guess I am a little concerned with the Rad bikes because of their weight and handling on tight trails. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.
@IreneIronTravels

That is the big tade off off with these style of ebikes. They will not handle the same as a mouton bike, but you can take them on some trails. The true electric mountain bikes are around $5,000- $10,000+ if that is in your budget.

Great video. someday may need to get one but I am one for less or no maintenance 1. Do they make a E Bike using a serpentine belt? Chain maintenance is the worst and always messy and seems likes something is always out of adjustment. 2. Flat tires. Always tried Slime Flat Out and the Liners 3. But in CO it was a Daily Flat tire in the trails “Goat head Weed” is in season 12 months a year. It is out of control and can be found on pavement and concrete. 4. Theft In CO had 2 locked bikes by the stolen at the Light rail Station which were used to park and go to work. Come back at end of day. Gone Used HD U Bolt and they used the cordless grinder and off they came. Same to steal daily catalytic converters. Thieves caught in camera and rose off in the sunset. Police did nothing Happened all the time Also on the trails constant break ins if vehicle stealing credit cards glove box contents back packs Again on a daily basis. Police did nothing 5. Balance. Seemed to get worse so sold all my many name brand bikes Left CO never will I return to that state…. Sad So for now walking running hiking is my choice and alot less cost Thanks for you your great videos

We use them for fun and site seeing, not for a workout or exercise. Really nice to have after a good leg day🤣

Slime is NOT good to use. If you get a flat the slime will bond the tube to the tire and than you'll need to buy a new time most of the time. I own a repair shop and had to break the bad news to a customer just yesterday. Also, there are not as many repair shops as one would think.

I'm considering an e-bike. I'm looking for reliability for under $1500. Should I give up and stick with my 1968 Schwinn Typhoon? I've NEVER had any luck with imported ANYTHING with 2 wheels. Any professional advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I purchased 2 RAD Rover 6's - had a problem with a battery on one and RAD gave me the run around on getting a replacement. I do not recomend this product due to poor customer service.

Thanks for the comment, I probably will not find a reasonable price bike that won't be a disappointing waste of money. I'm trying to research e-bikes and it looks like I better stick with my uncomplicated Schwinn single speed. Made in 🇺🇸 in 1968.😎

bluetooth helmets are almost as big of an advancement as ebikes themselves - couldn't recommend them more highly

@@IreneIronTravels The only issue we have had with the Swagman initially was movement of the wheel wells during transit. We added a small screw to obstruct that movement. Otherwise very happy with it.

The best Rad Rover's specs do not even come close to the top five sub $2000 fat tire ebikes out there. For the same money, there are FAR better options.

Can you please suggest a low cost brand that has proven reliability ? We don't need the extra frills, accessories, or high speeds...just a cheap price RELIABLE one to take on motorhome trips, on a 3 nighter it might get ridden about 5-10 miles total. Soft sand, gravel, raw desert. My biggest concern is paying good money, and the battery goes bad and then they want a bunch of money for a new battery. Who sells reliability under $1500 ?

My 1st question is did you pay for these bikes? Reviews from free bikes are worthless reviews.

Rad Power Bikes do not ship to Hawaii! I've never seen one. Too bad, they're losing a lot of business.

Apple air tags are super easy to hack and all of that nonsense and even find out where you live since it’s always on the bike. Do not use air tags. Horrible devices.

Not happy at all about your extremely rude comment about bad drivers. First of all, did your bike purchase help pay for the roads you're using? NOPE. Did you know bike riders are supposed to follow the same rules as drivers in vehicles? NOPE. It was obvious when you used the crosswalk to cross, much like most bikers who think they can use pedestrian ways whenever they want, which is super dangerous. I'M DISGUSTED THAT BIKE RIDERS DON'T PAY FOR ROADS BUT TAKE THEM OVER ANYWAY. Thieves, I say. Not everyone can use this form of transportation so it is discriminative. Get off the roads with your stupid bikes.
