For other commenters questions. 1. Yes you can upgrade internal and still use an external hardrive at the same time 2. Internal can save and play ps5 like the stock memory. (You just pick the drive you want them to load to) 3. External can save and play ps4 but it can only store ps5 to transfer to the system quicker. Example: my current config has 2 TB internal (1 stock, 1 installed) and 5 TB external. All my ps5 games automatically load and play from the internal and all the Ps4 games automatically load to and play from the external.

I know that this is an old video, but I just got my 2T SSD and was looking for install videos. I have to say that of the MANY videos I saw yours was the best! The only thing that I might include is to recommend that people use some sort of padding (towel/terry cloth) to lay their PS5 on while they are doing the install. I think doing the "love tap" technique is better than the "lift and pull" one as I felt like I was going to pull my PS5 apart. I also like how you pointed out to blow the dust off, very thoughtful! Actually really only requirement at the moment is a gen4 drive and add a heatsink if you want it to last. Might matter later butany people showed any gen 4 works at the moment.

I have just about the same internet speed and was having the same problem.I bought an extender and im not far from my wifi to begin with but maybe it interfered with somthing and since then haven't ran into any problems no slowing down im getting a constant 350mbs to 400mbs. Also the extender was $20 somthing dollars I definitely say it is worth a shot cause if it doesn't work just return it. Thanks for the ssd help much appreciated

You just half to lift that top left corner and it gently move to the right and it comes off super easy. I still think external is a go regardless specially if y got slow internet. Damn 300megs. You lucky. I can only get 25 where I'm at.

So glad i waited. I bought an external 2TB memory foy $180 and it turned out the company lied that it was compatible with ps5. I waited over a year and bought the WD- -Black 4TB internal storage for $349. Few months ago, the 2TB was $450. Definitely worth the wait.

i just won a ps5 with 2 controllers and 4 games off newegg shuffle and i was debating keeping it since i have a monster rig desktop. so i thought about adding an m.2 and for these redonculous prices having most titles cross platform or even attainable from xbox pass i just cant justify keeping it. entry level desktops are going for the prices a ps5 is with just storage expansion while desktops with minimum 8gb gpu memory are still sustaining moderate gaming. what do you think? should i keep it?

Nice video but let me give you some good information on Wifi let's say your speed is 300 In actuality it's much slower depending on how many devices you have connected to through your bluetooth. For instance you have 10 Devices connected That 300 is divided into the ten different devices you have connected so if you want good speed on you PS5 you would need to disconnect or turn off some of you devices this will help you, I never knew that until I talked to a technician on why my speed was slow.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but the 2 TB samsung evo pro is on sale right now for about 180. This is a ridiculous price for m.2 memory.

Purchased the official 2TB SSD drive from Amazon. Connected it in, turned it on and the console tried to format it, made a really high pitched sound then turned off the console. Turned it back on and it once again recognised the storage unit but refuses to format it. Tried a dozen time to reinstall it and format but it refused to format. Took it out, sent it back for a refund. I probably got a faulty SSD drive but its put me off ever trying again.

You shouldn't be putting back the ssd plate cover on. It's going to shorten the life of your ssd trapping in the heat..

Funny thing is that all of the ps5 games I wanted, fit on the basic ps5 storage and leaves the ps5 with space to spare. You see I still have my ps4 pro as well and only got games released after the ps5 release to use on the ps5. Whilst backward compatibility is good it didn’t make much sense to me to get rid of my ps4 pro which is awesome and still runs well, to use up unnecessary storage on the ps5 with ps4 titles when storage is smaller on the ps5 than the ps4 pro to begin with. These are all the games I wanted for ps5 and the approximate install sizes; Horizon forbidden west around 100gb with patch god of war ragnorok 84.095GB astro playroom 10.98GB ratchet and clank rift apart 42.183 GB sifu 7.16GB kena 17 GB stray 7GB the quarry 43.6 GB Older games like Spider-Man, ghost of Tsushima, last of us, HZD,etc I just play them on my ps4 pro. They look good enough on it and I had already played the hell out of those games by the time the ps5 was available. For all those going out and buying 4 TB SSDs so they can fit every game past and present because they got rid of their ps4 pros……Sony got you!😂😂😂 it will be a while before I need to get a 1TB SSD. I’ll wait till they are much cheaper if I even need one at all. I still have my Xbox one x and I went through my library the other day and realised that it was full of games I was not likely to play. So you know what?……. I deleted them and it wasn’t really to make space as all of the games I was playing were already installed. I noticed a patch up date for no hope so I thought I would remove all the games I knew I wasn’t likely to revisit. As I don’t plan on getting anymore one x games, the storage will only be used for game updates and system patch updates which I do occasionally since I typically keep my one x offline. My ps4 pro was able to keep all the games I frequently played stored on the hard drive without needing to delete and I had tons of gameplay capture taking up storage that I haven’t uploaded to KZfaq yet. Whilst I appreciate that future games will have larger install sizes, all of the games I wanted the Ps5 for were all ready out and there isn’t anything coming out any time soon on my list of day one purchases. GTA6 and last of us 3 will probably be a while😂

I just ordered a new ssd for mine with a heat sink. Although, looking at the tiny compartment the ssd goes in I feel the heat sink will surely take up valuable space and make it hotter in there.

Has anyone run their PS5 and SSD w/heatsink without replacing the silver cover plate? To me it makes more sense to keep the SSD bay open to allow the heatsink more space to dissipate heat. There aren't any airflow channels or vents inside the SSD expansion bay so it's not like the silver cover plate helps with internal airflow. However keeping the cover plate off would also help utilize the main PS5 fan for cooling as that's only a couple inches away from the SSD bay. Anyone else run their PS5 without the cover plate after installing a SSD w/heatsink?

FYI, these SSDs are still pretty expensive. I got lucky with my purchase. I had Best Buy rewards money and a gift card which shaved the sale price. I ended up getting the 1TB Firecuda for just shy of $150. The 2TB which is what I would have preferred was $400. Craziness.

I bought the Samsung 980 Pro w/ Heatsink. Not sure how it is for the other M.2 SSD's, but for mine, I had to update the firmware on the SSD itself in order to get above 5500 Mb/s Read Speeds. Just an FYI if anyone is gonna buy the 980 Pro.

Just don't understand why the next gen console didn't have an 2tb ssd. This would have made more sense.

WD m2 ssd is overrated while the auros gen4 7000s is bang for the buck with Read and write speed with a hairline slower than Auros.

Is it just me or does all this just feel like a money grab scheme? Previous systems simply required slapping a game cd or cartridge in and you're instantly good to go! Now even disc version games absorb the extremely limited internal memory to play. Spending $500+ on the console and then another $400 on an ssd to get it running properly seems ridiculous. The technology should be better than requiring a ton of extra money to enjoy the ease that we had before. 🙄
