I've been practicing the Irish fiddle song Swallowtail Jig and in this video you can watch me practice this song from day 1 until a few weeks in.
I show you some tricks to get the hang of the finger pattern and you see how I practice with a metronome to gradually build up the speed.

I love playing etudes but pieces kind of scare me because I feel like when I start a piece I should play it without mistakes in a perfoming manner but for me etudes are just way of improving. Pieces make me stressed. Maybe I should practice a easy pice thats more below than my level to keep me motivated to try other songs or pieces.
@MarijkeViolin

Sounds like a good idea! I considered this a practice piece too and there wasn't that much performance pressure to it. 🙂

If youre wandering about how difficult pieces you should play search "flow" by Csíkszentmihályi a world class scientist (in short the piece shouldnt be too hard and shouldnt be too easy, common sense :) ) Oh and by the way musicality is what you are aiming for no matter what, technic is secondary its a tool for musical expression. Always aim for musicality first and formost. But I bet youre on the right way.

my 10 year old just started the violin, and I love every minute of her practice, I have her do 15 minutes a day for now, I don't want to burn her out, I want her to love playing it as much as I love hearing fiddles, violins, guitars, harps etc etc. :-)

I noticed that your right hand fingers are always so stiff on the bow and very straight, you are doing most of the motions from the elbow and some from the wrist,but you are missing the fingers,for smooth bow changes finger movements are very very important, so I would recommend you to practice that,it makes everything automatically sound much better,but I am always happy to see you improve,good luck! 💕

I'm learning this tune, I've got the A part learnt but the rhythm is tricky. Sometimes I get it but when I go away and come back to it, I've lost that elusive rhythm again. I love this kind of music though, so I'm going to plug away at it until I have it nailed. You're doing great, you play it very well.

I’ve been learning the flute for around five years, and I’m not far off starting grade four. But next year we are taking a year off doing grades (or until the new syllabus comes out), so we are going in for a development/ improvement year and I get to choose the pieces I want to learn. I’m already planning which exercises, techniques and Etudes I want to get stuck into. I still can’t believe how far you have come along since you first started learning the violin, and you can certainly hear the difference in your playing 🥰 xx

I will also be using the D' Addario NS Micro Tuner to be able to better locate the notes on each string and to practice intonations … It is a very useful tool to use that removes also the guess work to trying to find the right key or notes to play.

I'm using a plastic Wittner chinrest, it's very comfortable for me. And thanks! My violin is a 150 year old German model which I'm renting from the music school. I love the look, although the sound is a bit harsh to my liking. One day I'll buy my own violin. 🙂

Your playing has improved!!! I’m so proud of you!! However, I think as you progress, you should phrase more and use more dynamics and accents so the piece doesn’t sound forced. It also makes it very beautiful! Also, depending if you know how to or not, vibrato on some of the longer notes. And finally, RELAX!!! Your hands seem very stiff and I think you should loosen them up a bit!Regardless, your playing improved greatly!! Keep up the great work!! :))

Ooh super!
