I have been watching a lot of youtube videos about decoupaging with fabric. I think your idea of fussy cutting pieces is wonderful! Every video has you cut and sand the edges which sometimes pulls up the fabric. I was thinking it would be easier if the fabric did not come all the way to the edge of the plate, but using one piece of fabric makes that nearly impossible. I am not an artist or quilter and have no real 'eye' for color/pattern placement but for someone like me, I think having a design in the middle and using a subtle designed fabric around it just might work! So glad this video popped on my feed. Beautiful work.

Thank you. This is the best tutorial that I have seen on this subject, and I love how you demonstrate the collage technique. The red plate especially is beautiful. It is very helpful to learn about the dishwasher safe mod podge, and I like how you really just use a thin coat. I created two plates like this before I came across this video and I have some tips and some warnings. First tip is that you can get similar glass plates at the Dollar Tree store for a buck a piece. They have all different sizes and they all cost a dollar. You can save money on brushes by buying cheap chip brushes, but they might leave bristles, so be careful. I didn't care for using the sponges. Also, you can put the dish on top of a coffee can to work with it, upside-down of course, and you can certainly wear thin vinyl gloves if you don't want to get mod podge on your hands. I made one plate with fabric and one plate with a beautiful handmade paper, and the fabric is a lot easier to work with because it is more flexible than the paper and you can really get it on smooth without any bubbles. But the paper also came out beautiful even though there were some wrinkles on the back. Also, for finishing this you can use Krylon clear glaze varnish on the back. Just spray it on. It gives a nice high gloss and seals it. One thing I would not do again is use the matte finish Mod Podge. It just doesn't look as nice and it wouldn't be dishwasher safe. And don't put it on too thick because you will see brush strokes. My one question is do you let the fabric extend over to the thin side of the plate or do you trim it so that it is just completely on the back? I found it it is difficult to trim the fabric perfectly if you let it overlap on to the side.

Great tips!! Thank you! As far as the fabrics.. I have tried two different ways and I have found just a little over the edge then mod podge and whatever is over the edge is now stiff and easily trimmable with an exacto knife afterwards.

What looks even better than fabric is decorative napkins. They look handpainted! You can apply them to anything! Here's a tip , after you get all of your fabric or napkins in place you can use plastic wrap and cover the surface so you can push out the wrinkles easier especially with the napkins because they are so thin.

SOS - I NEED HELP ASAP: I modged podged the fabric to the back of my plates yesterday afternoon and let them dry ALL NIGHT LONG. And I started applying the modge podge to cover the fabric a few minutes ago and it doesnt seem like the modge podge is soaking into the fabric. Did I wait too long to make it work?? Sorry for the delay in my response. The first coat of Mod Podge will dry hard, so the second and third coat will not "soak" into the fabric. It will be hard and that is what you want.
