With rifles spinning watch the United States Marine Corps Drill Platoon perform their amazing silent drill routine during the Sunset Parade. A hushed crowd enjoys a beautiful evening watching and listening to the Drum and Bugle Corps at the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima) and the Drill Platoon performance. The Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon Sunset Parade begins at 7pm Tuesdays from late spring to early fall.

I read comments saying this branch is better then that branch. Truth is, every man and woman in uniform raised their right hand and swore an oath to protect this great nation. I'm a vet, and we owe a debt of gratitude to every man and women who served this country. Regardless what Branch!!

I served 21 years in the Marine Corps as an infantry officer with 3 years in combat. Platoon commander in Vietnam (68-69) and two years supporting counter-insurgency operations in a foreign country. One of the best highlights of my life was leading Marines. I'm 73 now, but every Marine Corps birthday, a small group of former Marines get together at a restaurant with a Marine Corps cake. We have dinner and share old times and war stories. At the end of dinner, one of the Marines reads the Commandant's message and cuts the cake with a Marine sword. The first piece goes to the youngest Marine (who was 65 this last birthday) and the second piece goes to the oldest Marine (who was 80 this last birthday). Everyone then gets a piece of cake. Before we enjoy the cake, we toast the Corps. Once a Marine; always a Marine. I still get goose bumps watching Marines today. If I could do it all again, I would. Semper Fi to all Marines and even to our brothers in the other services. It takes a team to win.

I remember getting to basic training and being in first phase. To see a 3rd phase platoon go by heels hitting the deck the instructor singing cadence. I was thinking, we will never look or sound like that. Of course 10 weeks later we did. The transformation that takes place when you train everyday is amazing. These Marines are on an entire different level. I have seen the Silent Drill Platoon maybe 20 times over the last 35 years and til this day I still get nervous as they perform. When it comes to comparing the different branches to see who are the biggest badasses, I believe all branches have some badasses- as my Father said: "When the s**t hits the fan, you don't care if the guy in the foxhole with you is Coast Guard, Navy, Marine, etc. as long as he's got your back. Hell, if he helps me stay alive another day, I don't care if he peddles Ice Cream for a living!" :) It's confidence that makes the difference and can make heroes of us all no matter what branch you're in.

It is a unique experience to watch these guys perform the silent drill with formidable precision and then watch them march to Semper Fidelis, The Marine Hymn, etc. played by a live USMC band. Proud of being American!!!!

It blows me away how precise, and crisp they're moves are! Awesome to watch! It also blows me away how any Bozo could hit the dislike button for this! You have to be a Scumbag not to think this is super cool!

I think maybe the dislikes may be how the video is put together and actually got the silent drill team. I love and respect them highly, but wasn't thrilled with the video. I wish it was longer, didn't have close ups of heads, I order when you can see more of the team, but that's me. :) Maybe others felt the same or something.

@@blackfiretshoukou9090 While, yes, tshoukou! Throw out discipline and you get a bunch of Edward R. Gallagher types who violate orders and dishonor our nation and the organization they serve. Gallagher got off because Cadet Bone Spurs, who has no knowledge of what it takes to run an effect military organization, thought that a pardon would encourage his political base to embrace him; Trump chose to pump up his political standing over the requirements and needs of our nation. Knowing the minions who support him, it probably has. All of the other SEALs and military personnel within the Department of Defense know better. Discipline is the base for all training and combat. Without it, one might as well cut and run.

Watch.I could watch them-all day. Am I needing to get out more-or am I amazed at -the two captains at the end flipping their guns up and catching them I believe have served at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Listen to the guardian of it. .Through hurricanes-they will not stop.

As a retired member of the Navy Hospital Corp, I have great respect for these guys. Too bad that for the past 20 years our government has them dying in the desert for things that have nothing to do with our nation's security. Pray for our troops.

You won't find many of those moves in Queen's Regs. The US Marine Corps demonstrate a unique example of military discipline and precision drill. Excellent. I hope one day I will be able to watch it person.

Actually dancers, cheerleaders, and marching bands (especially color guard) could all also do this shit. >.> Cheer Leaders with a gun. It's laughable.
@triconehead

Amaruuno, you forgot synchronized swimming, choirs, football, basketball, etc., it's all entertainment, silent drill platoon included. They all have one thing in common, this group cohesion you call "shit". But there is an underlying purpose in what the silent drill platoon demonstrates that goes way beyond entertainment and is deadly serious. Marines are not cheerleaders...for them cohesiveness helps win battles and keeps people alive. Hardly something to laugh about.

Cone head, many forms of entertainment, believe it or not save lives without taking any. Last time I checked we don't have a war on our land except in the criminal aspect that our police force fights. Not the marines, the police that haven't been oh too popular lately. Music happens to keep many alive, as well as dance. Imagine if the world had absolutely none of the forms of entertainment named by both you and me. I'm sure twe would have a lot more suicides than we do now with so many people lacking a distraction, a sense of purpose, something to motivate them, or the right lyrics being said that made them decide to continue. So it's also deadly serious. You can hardly compare training done by infantry to throwing a baton and call both deadly serious. No one was saying being a marine was a joke, but this shit in the video? Could be done with out. It's literally a mechanism to get people to join. Oh that looks so cool! Lets put on forms of entertainment, just like movies, small clips of MOS's, posters and ads that say The Few, The Proud, The Marines. Army Strong. Whatever the airforce and navy say.... it's ADVERTISEMENT. It IS ENTERTAINMENT HA....HA....HA. I laugh that you think otherwise.
@triconehead
@triconehead 7 жыл бұрын
SMH. You still don't get it. I was not talking about throwing a damn baton. And no, I do not think otherwise, it really is nothing more than entertainment and advertisement. We don't have to have any of it. But it's there and it's sad that you can't see what they're doing beyond the twirling and throwing.
