I watch Boats V Haulover Inlet, and Wavy Boats all the time which give you a great perspective of a third party view of boats traveling through the inlet, but it’s really cool to see a first person perspective of the inlet in this video, even if most of it is facing the stern.

Hmmm it seems it posted my comments twice (sorry) Thank you! I have a 36 foot cruiser and I'm a SAFE BOATER, and member of Boat US. I invite USCG courtesy inspections. I'm pretty aghast at some of the Haulover videos. How NOT to boat - its not funny when someone is injured. You can see "crew" being slammed and hurt. If you are the skipper, their life is in YOUR hands. My rule: My boat, my rules, I'm the skipper of the vessel, and it is my responsibility to keep you safe. Leave the beer at the pier. Putting people in the bow in a bow rider is asking for injury - and though I'm not a doctor, I have to believe that is causing spinal compression- it actually hurts to watch. Taking the sides of the channel, maintaining steerage way and not injuring people - or knocking them overboard is SAFE BOATING. In rough water? PFD's. And NO Alcohol, until back at the slip tied up, after a day of beautiful boating - Alcohol and sea water can make a deadly cocktail. Safe Boating!!

There are MANY worse inlets. Compared to some of them this one is WIDE & DEEP and as a result, better then so many. Most of the problems shown are those that have no business running a boat in the first place.

Radar is not required on vessels under 1600 GT (33 CFR 164.35), however, Rule 7 states that . In other words, whoever has one must use it. The Navigation Rules are not meant to discourage the use of any device, rather they expect prudent mariners to avail themselves of (Rule 5), e.g. the use of radar. At issue is whether the use of radar is appropriate in the prevailing circumstances and that is a determination made by the Master; and, ultimately decided by a trier of fact. Should you be in a collision how would a judge/jury rule on your contention that the use of radar was impracticable (due to electrical drain, crew shortages, etc.)? Also, if a collision does occur, then there was obviously a beforehand. Could the determination of that risk have been made sooner with the use of radar? It is difficult to answer such questions because the circumstances of each case are different.

Great advice but forgot to say that life jackets should be worn and why are you not wearing them yourselves to prove that point. I am from New Zealand and everyone must wear a life jacket in a vessel of up to six metres or the skipper can receive an infringement cost of up to $300. Over six metres there must be one readily available for everyone.
