I agree on your conclusion that sealed products will probably not go sky rocket like Pokemon did. I won’t buy sealed items, but might pick up the top chase card a few months after release (once prices are more affordable, I hope).

How many companys make disney products? From what i understand thats kind of what killed the old wax sports cards correct me if im wrong of course but so many different companys printing the same cards essentially

Between Pokemon Obsidian Flames, 151, TCG Classic, Disney Lorcana, and a few other products coming this 2nd half of the year, it's going to be interesting where everyone positions their coin. I'm hoping the hype insights competition for some other cool products coming out of left field, but I couldn't imagine what could stand up to the hype. I think 151 is going to be huge for the nostalgia-heads like myself.

Do we know what Ravensburger's stock is? I want to keep an eye on it.

A few details missed; The game is being developed by Ryan Miller who has experience in TCGs. The art was also deliberate to look more classic 90's cartoon. They've commented adding Marvel and Star Wars and at this time the anwser is 'no'. The focus is that classic Disney magic and both Marvel and Star Wars come with their own identity. Pixar is of course eventually going to happen.

Working at a toy store and went to an educational program hosted by Ravensburger. Some cards are drawn exclusively for the cards, never seen by the too animators of Disney. So he kinda got me with that information

Looking at the artwork that is coming in this set then in my mind it is of a novice nature typical of a start up. If they look hard at pokemon designers of the now they should up their game as long as they can commission high end designers who are not cheap and a smallish pool to nudge into. My budget is to stick with Pokemon and watch the sideshow.

Big stake in Yugioh, Pokemon, stating next month with MTG LOTR and will be opening Disney Lorcana. Its gonna be a very fun next couple of months for sure. Paldea Evolved and LoTR in the same month 😮😮😮

I’ve wanted to be able to get on the bandwagon, but I just can’t seem to get there. So many Disney products come and go. I feel like this is simply a licensee puzzle maker that is going to release a card game that will cash in for the hype. I hope I’m wrong, but just can’t seem to get on board with this one… that said I’ll still buy a few cases like everyone else.

The CEO change angle with Disney is interesting, I was about to say they are getting a bit too loose with their IP with cards but it might be a good change and have Ravensburger be the only company making Disney TCG in the states. I think people were expecting Ravensburger to be Disney's exclusive TCG maker much like pokemon but with how loose they have been with their IP I wasn't as confident hopefully the CEO's classic mentality helps cement Ravensburger to be the main and sole distributor for Disney TCG cards.

I understand why you're looking at it through more of an investment perspective. but Disney announced they're going to print more so that it will be more available. The only reason it's jacked up high right now is because the first print run can't meet demand. They will mass produce to meet demand as it's the first set to hook buyers. They also said they're more interested in the games playability more than collectibility. The cards don't have crazy holos, and won't have any first edition stamps of any nature. They want all disney lovers to get their products and continue buying future releases. People are treating it like first edition pkmn and it's far from that. I think it's best just to enjoy playing the game. The mechanics are relatively simple and similar to hearthstone. Until it's reprinted and distributed, prices will remain high till Q1 2024.

Something to remember: Disney’s stock has been encompassed in in controversy for years now. They fired their CEO over night due to company financial struggles. They have struggled at the box office under every single one of their IP’s (Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, Disney Classic) in the past few years. Disney is notorious for over-producing the hell out of any merchandise with their name attached to it. Other Disney collectible are very mass produced. I’m not saying it won’t be successful but its definitely over-hyped.

I'll bite when it comes out and stash a box. However, we know this will be printed to no end until it runs dry just as you say. As for art I think they are going the cheap route. Using what is already available because there is so much Disney content we will never see the use of any outside or inside artist creating new art for cards. Why bother paying someone to create when its already there.

Clear concise assessment of the situation. I can admit I may have gotten swept up in the hype. Was a really competitive TCG Player 9 years ago. Now being a dad my focus has shifted more towards collecting and playing games with the family. Was planning on picking up quite a bit to hold as a speculative investment but my step off the gas a little bit. Regardless it will be nice to get back into some TCG's again and this is the first time my wife has expressed interest in TCG's so Disney has something going for it at least. Cool to see you are in Florida as well. We are about an hour from Disney but haven't had annual passes in a few years. Looking forward to more Lorcana content.

That price point will hurt the average players from buying product. I believe it will be collectors and scalpers buying up product for FOMO and hope it will retain value over time. The hype will be real at first but i am unsure of the sustainability as it will be tough to compete with the other tcgs who have better artwork and lower price points. But time will tell.

Hasn't Ravenburger already already said, "Disney will be short printed" because of collectability reasons!?

I think this is gonna mostly go after mtg. Wizard had really hurt his community lately saturate the product and ingress the price drastically. Disney fan adult even will give it an chance the art is good. The game have room for improvement after the first set . I also think the fact that it s a race to the finish line will make it healthier on a multiplayer format. I also bring up MTG because the team behind it have been know for it s work on EDH wish is also a more multiplayer format and casual. I think this is a game that will have an stronger casual community then competitive. While appealing to the collector and people who value art and flavor for the cash cow.

Thinking about the Art .... Imagine Ravensburger blowing off with insanly good arts wich people wouldnt recognize as old original classic disney anymore ... they would not buy, bcs it would look like an fancy copy ... They had to do it this way, i guess. I mean look at the shadowing and the "bad" colour choices in some cards, let it look like taken out of the movie, this had to be done by purpose.

Ravengburger would be behind Konami that owns Yu-Gi-Oh, and lets not for get Bandai has Dragonball Super and One Piece which has exploeded in popularity. So it's no where near 3rd place.

I think you're exactly right that Lorcana doesn't need to upend Mtg or Pokemon to be successful. If people play and enjoy the game then that's what matters. I also think we'll see kids getting into Lorcana then transition into other tcgs as they get older. That's great for all of the tcg communities

If I were Bob, here are the factors I would be considering: 1. Magic is a $1 billion money machine with some 40 million players. Hasbro has been absolutely shredding all of its goodwill with those players and they are desperate for something of value to collect, which has led to the recent boom of new TCG IPs, many of which have been wildly successful. 2. Disney's entertainment division has been hemorrhaging money as they release flop after flop in the box office, making Disney desperate for a solid source of revenue. If I were Bob, I would not only have Lorcana on my radar, I would be looking at it as a potential new golden goose for the company.

Disney is the king of business passive income because they've become the king of IP! A lot of people could ask, maybe Disney should buy Ravensburger to have more control.. Why?! Why get active when you can sit back and collect royalties based off your own IP. Its the same with companies like Dooney & Burke and Loungefly, who make so many premium products for Disney that are actually sold on property. Speaking of Dooney & Burke, there magic bands are awesome! Magic bands are such a cool collection to have too... I think my family has upwards of 200 now lol

While i thank you for sharing some facts and graphs...you absolutely drowned them with opinion the whole vid...I agree with most of your opinion but at the end of the day the market will decide as always...I still have OG Pokémon badges from wotc actual stores so I been in tcgs for awhile...more excited for these then base set Pokémon and the lgs path they are taking is comparable. Wotc was a nothing novelty store until they licensed Pokémon if I remember correctly

I don’t know why you keep mentioning “Lorcana first edition” when they won’t be printing any cards with “first edition”. I hope there isn’t as much hype going around so playable singles can be affordable, and I don’t want investors becoming the scalpers of this set that prevent us from getting cards to play with.

let’s start with the quantity of the D23, which is the only first edition cards that will be released. You say 10k Mickey cards.. we don’t even know how many Mickey cards had been released and to date we have 422 psa 10… and we are 8 months out from when they were released.. it’s doubtful we will see another 9,500 more psa 10 Mickey cards get graded. Once again these are the only 1st edition cards.. they will be reprinted but not as a 1st edition card.. 2nd let’s not forget how many Disney collector the market has.. way more than Pokémon.. I would dare to say Star Wars alone may be above Pokémon..and to follow up on something people seem to forget.. KZfaq videos of Pokémon are geared around collecting not playing.. I hear everyone say there’s no chance that Disney will become as big as Pokémon. Pokémon is no longer a game that is played in the masses. It’s more geared around collecting and all the big names on KZfaq are educating people to collect cards which is exactly what Disney already has…. collectors. When was the last time you heard a top (over 100k) KZfaq Pokémon guy say anything about playing? It’s always pull rates, rarity and profits… which is collecting!!

disney are such a disgusting company - those money mongers destroyed classics and legends and did some really nasty moves as business goes, it's for the mainstream and for the 50% people i really hope they stay true to themselves and this will lead to a fast reaction from the fans and hopefully Lorcana will die in no time
