I’ve seen mature specimens of several Mountain Horned Dragon species in the videos of nocturnal herping in the jungles of SE Asia/Thailand. They are magnificent as adults with the row of large, spiny projections from their head down their entire back. Also, they seem really friendly and docile as opposed to my other favorite species, the monitor lizards (a BIG size difference too! lol)

@@daffysreptiles Sure thing. The channel name is “Ruperts Reptiles.” He’s a young-ish British dude who goes herping -usually at night through the jungles of SE Asia, Borneo (that part of the world.) He shows several species of adult dragons in various videos - the adult males are especially magnificent looking, there’s at least one in this video; kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n82YndpyqpmRj4E.html He’s primarily interested in snakes but shows all sorts of exotic herps; frogs, turtles, lizards, newts, etc. and occasionally other native animals (birds & mammals) that cross their paths. If i see any other especially interesting vids with dragons I’ll forward you the link(s). Night herping in tropical rainforests is amazing!

awesome video and editing great info only thing I noticed to be constructive would be white balance most shots look good but all seems a bit washed out dropping it down a bit would give more contrast and show off the reptiles and little details in the enclosure even more :)

hey daffy, quick question, how did you get them to tong feed? The only way ive gotten her to eat is if I put superworms in a bowl, so any tips you have would be great. Also keep up the great content
@daffysreptiles
@daffysreptiles Жыл бұрын
Hey! Best advice I can give you is to be persistent. Cut off food for 2-3 days and try if she doesn’t eat wait another day and try again. If it doesn’t work feed regularly for a week or so and then try again. It may take a couple of tries but she will eventually learn that tongs means food!

For mountin horned dragons or any other mountin lizard i recommend only feeding worms as that is all they eat in the wild. Superworms, mealworms, soldier fly larvae, hornworms, butterworms ect. They will actually not eat crickets or roaches unless you shove it into thier face. I noticed that they will only go after worms instead of crickets because thier natural diet consists mostly of grubs they find high up in the canopy. I dont recommend fish because they dont swim so they would never eat fish in the wild. However a pinkie mouse once a month can be fed
@daffysreptiles
@daffysreptiles 4 ай бұрын
Hello! It seems your mountain horned dragons maybe a little picky if they don’t take crickets or roaches unless you shove it in their face. A lot of my dragons love crickets and roaches and will actively jump down from the top of their vivariums to chase crickets! They definitely love their worms however that’s definitely not all they eat in the wild, in the wild they eat slugs, spiders, grubs, beetles and anything else that crosses their path! As for fish I haven’t had any luck with mine eating any but I have now seen them attempt to hunt fish multiple times! And mountain horned dragons definitely do swim! Mine spend quite abit of their time in the water in their paludarium and people that have seen them in the wild have told me they’ve found them sitting in streams!

If by humidity is not a problem you mean that you will easily be able to keep humidity up then absolutely an XL reptibreeze would make a great enclosure for an adult or even a pair!

Hey can you keep a baby in an adult size enclosure? Asking cause I won't have room for both enclosures, and I am not sure what i can do with the baby's enclosure once they out grow it. These tanks are huge. Even the baby tank is rather big. But I do want to get these guys one day but I want to do it right the first time around and not mess up I want to do my research and do the research properly.
@daffysreptiles

Good choice looking into Mountain Horned Dragons hahaha! I think the reason most people avoid keeping juvenile reptiles in larger enclosures is because it harder for them to find their food. That being said if you can get your Mountain Horned Dragon eating off tongs then you might be okay! Might still be easier for you to start with something smaller first then upgrade later on! You could maybe sell the grow out tank when the dragons out grown it? Good luck with your research and let me know if you have any other questions!

@daffysreptiles alright thanks will do. What size do u recommend for babies if I go that route?And to be honest I already know bout tong feeding I do it with my lemon(leopard geko female fiesty girl when she eats from doesn't let go of the tongs lol) So I might try that but your right i could sell it and learn how to sell to get some of that money back when , the time comes if I get babies. But I have a long wait. Cause I want to make sure to do this right the first time. I do wonder what travel size tub do u suggest I need to look into evacuation stuff for mountain horned dragons. I live around the gulf of Mexico so hurricanes are a threat to us.
