I’m sorry, if you have 100lbs of excess fat on your body and you gain 20lbs, even with strength training that gain is not all muscle. He’s eating a little too much. I lost 100lbs a couple years ago and struggled with stagnating until I took up heavy lifting, I just went through 6 months with power lifting and accidentally over shot my maintenance calories and gained about 10 lbs. some of it is muscle for sure, but there is definitely some fat in there. I’m a woman so I didn’t gain as much muscle as a man would but I can see definition so now I’m in a cut and 10 lbs down will look different than it used to but I still have about 40 lbs of fat on me so I have plenty of energy stored on my body to build muscle with without needing a surplus of calories. It just takes patience. I’m not saying their advice won’t work long term but something like that probably needs direct coach oversight and that much body fat isn’t healthy and should be a priority to get rid of for health’s sake imo. There’s more than one way to skin a cat though so hopefully it works for this dude, I wish him all the best!

I’ve lost 130lbs naturally myself. I gained 50lbs back while lifting, not following any maps programs yet, so my body comp is better but I really want to lose 50lbs again this year and get in the best shape of my life. My issue is calories, my maintenance is probably around 3000 now so I’m thinking I should eat 2300-2400 and change my training to a maps program?

Eat 2300 with around 30% from proteins, and train with high intensity

@@shubhamayush7232 Thank you that’s what I’ve been doing the past month. I seem to like being at 2400 for satiety and I’m protein focused in every meal. Hoping I can get to my goal by this time next year!

Is powerlift more of a metabolism boosting program then anabolic?

Depends on you specifically. New stimulus that isn't overly fatiguing and damaging is always the best choice

So, question? Normally one calculates his/her maintenance calories using a TDEE calculator. Can your calories be more than what your TDEE calculator results are if you speed up your metabolism? If so, when do you decide what is your new maintenance? when you are hungry again or when you stop gaining weight? Furthermore, if this is possible, could the opposite be true? can you ingest lower calories to a point that your new maintenance calories be lower than the TDEE calculations? Thank you
@durnhand9524
@durnhand9524 Жыл бұрын
The TDEE is a rough estimate. Your maintenance will be somewhere around there but not exact. It's normal to be a little above or below due to your lifestyle. Maintenance is calculated based on body weight changes. If the scale and BF stay the same for a couple weeks, you've found maintenance. This requires you to maintain the same amount of movement, which is why it's hard to find proper maintenance calories. When people cut calories, they tend to move less. This includes little movements such as talking with your hands, ect. Your second question, yes. You can consume a low amount of calories and reduce your overall maintenance. This will shift from the TDEE because of movement also. If you're that low, you are not moving as much or your organs have started to reduce work to reduce the calories required overall. This would be terrible for your health and shouldn't be pushed too far. This is why you go on a modest cut in calories and maintain a minimum threshold to keep body functions normal. Most trainers who are there to make your life better will not allow you to consume less than 10x your body weight. Those who are competing in competition do so at a detriment to their health and know it is not something to be maintained for long periods of time.

I'm not sure what to do here. I have been at 275 for a bit now, having put on a bunch of weight during covid and on. I would like to be at a lower weight to move around at. I know putting a specific weight is not ideal, however I am not sure where to start nutrition-wise. I purchased MAPs Anabolic and will be starting soon. I wonder whether I should be eating at maintenance and lifting or eating in a caloric deficit and lifting. Anyone who can help?

Find your maintenance calorie then eat 500kcal less than maintenance. Generally eat 1g of protein per body weight. Since you are on the heavier side, you can eat around .8g of protein per body weight. Make sure you do resistance training so most of the weight you are losing is fat.

@@detroitfan52290 be patient. Its a long process. Log everything you eat/drink. You should able to lose about 1% every week. If you are losing less, keep cutting your calories. Make sure you hit protein macro. Its crucial to keep your lean muscle.
