President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially signed the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill into law. The signing ceremony took place at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Wednesday. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ramaphosa said: "We are gathered here to bear witness to the signing into law of the NHI, which at the stroke of a pen is about to become an act of Parliament.

No one doubts that NHI in any country will benefit people provided there is money for it. How is it going to work in South Africa when the government just doesn't have the money for it. Not only that, is there any state owned entity functioning properly today? The state health facilities are in a mess, there is virtually no rail transport anymore, the Post office is bankrupt, Eskom is bankrupt and every other SOE is in a mess. NHI as good as it sounds is another disaster waiting to unfold.
