I used to either drill out the corners then saw, or use a jig saw to make this type of cut. With a good blade such as this Diablo Carbide, and a little practice, you can make quick work even plunge cutting

Many years ago when reciprocating saws were still a new tool on the jobsite, floor plan changes came in to a new construction we were working on that required removing an interior wall. I overheard the site boss explaining to another worker how to pull the nails securing the wall and to remove the wall intact. I had a new sawsall in my hands, so I just bent down snipped the nails along the bottom, then up the sides and kicked the wall so it moved an inch showing it was now loose. The boss had a big grin on his face, and said, "that's why we hired him!" 8-)

Gloves are smart. I was a little careless and I mixed up my personal rule on "no gloves or loose clothing around rotating equipment" and applied that rule to my Sawzall. My exhaust pipe pinched the blade and it yanked the saw around and the mechanism took a little nibble at my finger. Didn't quite need stitches, but it was kind of a mess. After 4 weeks its pretty well healed up, but still a little tender. I'll be wearing gloves next time. timestamp 0:00

I was doing this when I was 12 with a jigsaw. I'm 36 now, my father taught me many things when I was young, he was only 44 when the cancer had him. When I was 14 or so, my father took me on a small field practicing to reverse and move forward and getting to know the controls of the car, this went on after school for a week or so, after he was happy that I could control the vehicle and follow his instructions safely he took me on a public road, albeit it was a quiet road with a long stretch and a roundabout. Only a few tourists would pass so no danger was really present, ( didn't pass third gear) we got stopped by the police as I was driving up the hill the blue lights came on. they took him to the police car and took the keys out of the ignition , whilst I sat in the driving seat unaware of what was happening, police officer came back to the car and handed me the keys to continue driving, whilst they kept an eye on us from behind on the drive back home which must have been a mile up the road in second gear. When your young you forget about these small things and when I remembered about this event in my life it dawned on my that my father must have told the officer that he was terminal,( I didn't know this myself at the time I didn't know he was terminal) and so the kind officer allowed me to have my first driving lesson from his father . I never got to thank the officer that did that, I contacted North Wales police via email to thank the kind hearted man for that gesture but never got a reply or even anything to say they acknowledged my letter.. Because it's not something I remembered about or thought about really untill I had children myself, and I realise how important it is to pass on knowledge of any kind to your loved ones because life is short. Technology these days is great and you can watch these great little tips like this at a click of a button, but you will never forget what your father or mother passed on to you. 👍

Your father sounds like he was a PHENOMENAL Dad..... Cherish those memories and hold on to that innocence. Some of us have MONSTERS for Fathers that ARE THE CANCER that destroy everything they touch with their evil. I'm 40+ years old AND am still wishing/praying God will provide me and my children with someone that perhaps never had children or suffered loss and desires nothing more than to be an adoptive grandpa (teaching skills, passing down wisdom, telling funny jokes, playing board games etc...). Problem is I'm a magnet for horrible, ungodly, destructive, vile men..... Until that day comes-I will just continue to admire from afar, my heart broken into a million pieces, wishing that was me, shopping with the snarky, cranky but loving old man... I'm sure you feel that way too when you hear any term of endearment from your children.
