The 14060M is one of the few Rolex watches i could see myself owning, such a classic divewatch.

Greetings Bill. As a non-swimmer , wannabe fellow desk diver, the Roger Dubuis looks to be a far more individual and attractive proposition.

Definitely my favorite Submariner by far is the 14060 followed by the 5513, but that RD Easy Diver is awesome, I don't think I have the wrist for it (17cm). I was looking for a smaller Easy Diver on Chrono24 but the variety is slim. Thanks Bill.

The Submariner is an iconic watch but the Roger Dubuis references are legendary watches. Very much like comparing a classic Corvette to a classic Ferrari. At some point one realizes that the Corvette represents the earthbound and that the Ferrari represents the heavenbound. The narrative of the short lived heyday of Roger Dubuis as a watch manufacturing concern is straight out of a Thomas Mann novella with Carlos Dias being unduly vilified. I am not suggesting that Dias was not without his flaws but he seldom receives the credit that he likely deserves. Roger Dubuis as a company was felled by the 2008 global financial crisis and overly aggressive capital spending for a world class manufacturing facility just outside Geneva in Meyrin as well as personality incompatibility between Mssrs. Dubuis and Dias. That said, Roger Dubuis was a glorious brand while it lasted with the current incarnation of the brand being totally superfluous. To label a Roger Dubuis Easy Diver as a dive watch is akin to describing a Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder as a motorized vehicular appliance designed for personal transportation. The range of variations by and among the Easy Diver is so brilliant as to take one’s breath away. Conceding that the Submariner is a fine watch, there is no comparison between it and the Easy Diver nor with the Rolex and any other Roger Dubuis reference. The Rolex is on the order of an Andrew Wyeth painting and the Roger Dubuis is on the order of a Jackson Pollack painting - they are both creations realized with the same raw components (canvas and paint) but there is no real basis for equivalency between them.

Very good video Bill. I like the comparison of the Submariner to the Easy Diver. I’m not really a diver fan and I never liked the Submariner. The Easy Diver is just way to big. I can get away with a watch in the 43mm range, but 46mm, no way. Best regards, Brian

Hi Bill, Just has your response the other day on the easydiver, thanks for sharing knowledge, i was about to get one but hold it back a bit. Just to let ppl know or if I'm not mistaken, the movement of the RD easydivers RD821 are different than RD14? since RD14 is more luxe, appearntly they price more higher than those who has this RD821 caliber. there very limited information about RD movements or how they made, there also very big gap price difference between some of them to the other.

Great video thank you - Funnily enough my main timepiece is a new no date sub but my most worn is my Citizen EZ Smart Hybrid which in person looks like they had a Roger Dubuis bezel design in mind - This may all change as I'm picking up a pre-owned Omega 600m Planet Ocean today to add to the unnecessary hobby / adddition. 🙂

Some people say that every serious watch collector should have at least one Rolex in their collection. Who knows, maybe Bill will add one soon to his... 🙂

I believe that, at least the earlier Submariner 14060Ms have drilled (holes) in the lugs for quick strap changes. And the earlier 14060Ms also did not have the engraved rehaut. I think that came around 2005 or so. And, if I’m not mistaken, the green bezel “Kermit” Submariners all have the date complication. They used to keep the no-date Submariners simple (even hollow end links) right up to 2009 or so. :)

Amazing watch Easy Diver! Agree with your choice on a gator as for us desk divers wonderful. As for the Rolex Yacht Master II I believe its still in production and still alone with the Sky-Dweller are Rolex's most complex movements the SD was recently updated? My guess Rolex is moving towards higher finishing on the movements in preparation for display case backs. Check out the 2023 Platinum Daytona its the hint to the future my guess. Great video Bill!

Totally, totally agree with your view on the yaght master, now, is it now just (just??) a sub with a weak depth level?, its lost all the boating, regatta points.

I've got the Rolex Submariner 5513 and the Roger Dubuis Easy Diver but the later model. The Rolex is tiny to the RD and doesn't compare in quality.

Geneva seal and 22K rotor all day long, and limited production. Interesting you chose a Rolex generation with aluminium bezel, stamped clasp and hollow links I believe, not my cup of tea.

The superluminova makes no sense at all. It only works a few minutes after you go from light to dark, so don't count on it when you really need it
