Roger Dubuis spend years working in watch and clock restoration, worked with Jean-Marc Wiederrecht for Harry Winston developing a perpetual calendar and retrograde movement, 14 years at Patek Philippe, and he wanted to create watches hight quality watches meeting the high standards meriting the Geneva Seal. Was this possible in a true sports watch? (See also: • #92 The Watches of Rog... )

They're nice big solid watches, but the Easy Diver is so well designed that I often forget I have it on my wrist ... even though the band on mine could be a tad bigger ... and it will be as soon as my new band arrives. Congratz - great piece! For similar reasons I went for Easy Diver Chronograph and I’m so happy about the watch and regret a little that I did not look closer at RD before, easy diver line in particular. To me, a Luxury Sports Watch should have In-House Movement, 100M WR minimum, Screw-Down Crown, Date, and NO labeled or moveable bezels (mission watches). I have 3 such watches: Rolex Datejust, Omega Aqua Terra 150M, and Grand Seiko SBGH269. All 3 are elegant, yet capable sports watches with in-house movements and can never be confused with a mission watch, such as a diver or pilot watch.

I have the RD 821 with yellow hands. I have just had a new strap fitted at the Roger Dubuis outlet in Monaco. I managed to get this one on Chrono24 and although an old model it was new. A local watchmaker messed up the strap when I wanted it fitted. Roger Dubuis also sent it to Switzerland to be regulated so the watch is not only perfect but has been authenticated.. It makes my Rolex 5513 look like a cheap toy. LOL

Bill, congrats on the RD-14 - I want to hear more about what you loved about that Dubuis-designed movement. Could you be the first youtube watch reviewer to SAY WHA YOU PAID for the watch? It's really helps us to know in case we're shopping for the same. People tell too much too often yet somehow, saying the actual price is considered too private! Why? It's a number whosesecrecy only makes sense for watch flippers - which you are clearly not. Take care!

Hi Forbin, this quote sums up nicely what I think of the RD14 movement-'Rounded (not sheer) anglage, “black” polish, jewel countersinks with mirror sheens, and immaculate swan’s neck regulators embody the best of the Geneva tradition.' The high quality finishing is on top of the exceptional quality of the materials (at least until Richemont took over) and the pretty architecture of the movement itself (revealed in the RD 821 despite its economized rotter). It's clear why Jean-Marc Wiederrecht, a friend of Dubuis with whom he worked on a perpetual calendar and retrograde mechanisms, held Roger in such high esteem. -As for your carrot to be the first KZfaqr to reveal what he paid for a watch, it must be the quarantine effects of not getting a haircut making me appear to be a hayseed who just fell off the turnip truck... but since I do not want you to curl up in a corner and pout, I will reveal it! Matthew Davis ... Frantisek and I have been in discussions for years (literally) and he's frank with me and I with him. Ponder this for a moment... New born babies, as a rule, are as hideous as a wrinkled prune with misshaped heads and bodies ... but we all coo and proclaim "adorable" when they are anything but. The Eskimos have a great solution to the problem of honesty without insult-they say, "How baby!" The great majority of watches that cross my view are both mass produced and largely as boring as an insurance seminar, but to an owner of a newly acquired watch, I have the commonsense to say, "How watch..." and find something about the watch that is unique and interesting. To say one is being "defensive" to insult is so simpering and hackneyed a comment that one easily can see it as an apology for rudeness. However, like I said, I've known Frantisek over the Internet for years, and I've failed miserably at teaching him manners, but he's not mean-spirited, just lovingly clueless. Take care, Bill
