This special visit of A. Lange & Söhne was for sure a fantastic experience and we are very happy to share this rather long video with you. At first, we thought to produce something shorter, but there were so many things to see and the discussion with Anthony de Haas, Product Development Director of the brand was simply impossible to cut!!!
Enjoy

As soon as he said that I thought, ‘that’s not very American’ lol an American company would never accept that sort of thinking. Which yes I’m American so I sympathize with that thinking, but when one person can make three watches before another person can make two, That slower person has created a bottleneck in your supply-chain

Maybe I'm easily amused, but my mind was blown at that tiny section of dial that appears only when it's needed. They could've skipped that and saved a ton of work, time, parts, etc., but it's Lange, so there it is.

Own three Langes myself (Lange 1 Soiree, 1815 Chronograph and Datograph (1st gen in platinum), and to say that I'm a fanboy would be a huge understatement: I had the privilege of experiencing the factory tour myself, and what I saw there exceeded my wildest expectations: the passion and dedication of all Lange employees, and the extreme focus on detail is something I have never witnessed before with any other company in any industry. Breathtaking. Now I understand why a Lange watch can't be cheap. The watchmakers and artisans combine challenge and pleasure into the workspace. I don't like him to be honest. I am dutch and I don't like how my countrymen 'don't take themselves too seriously'. This business is built upon tradition and formality so I think Mr. De Haas's bad jokes and informal style are a bit inappropriate. Not to mention he is not even very good at explaining the processes or mechanisms. I'm sure he is very good at his job, but perhaps for doing publicity and public outreach they should hire someone else.
@jacc88888
@jacc88888 5 жыл бұрын
@@thabest007 I personally disagree about his style. You can tell that he takes his job seriously even if his manner is less formal. I think there is a fine line between formality and snobbery and some Swiss companies seem to veer towards the latter which helps contribute to the 'pretentiousness' factor, overcharging and brand snobbery that is often associated with Swiss matchmaking. There seems to be a refreshing lack of arrogance about ALS that makes you feel they are a company that respects their heritage yet are not resting on their laurels and are always striving to improve even more.
@thabest007
@thabest007 5 жыл бұрын
@@jacc88888 I wasn't trying to imply that he doesn't take his job serious, but I do agree about the fine line, and to be honest I don't know where to draw that line either. Let's just say that I personally prefer a bit more formality, and I think in this case informality of presentation doesn't match the formality of the product. Because ALS does not make casual-wear watches. And what about a balance between the arrogance as you call it, and the snobbery/pretentiousness? I'd say formal but humble would be a nice one

Easily the best watchmaker company in the world. AP, PP or VC has got nothing on A.Lange & Sohne. They make beautiful and most complicated timepieces yet very understated which is why they stand out as the best along with PP.
@irishceallaigh

But they are not Patek nor will they ever be! 1839 induction ,since 1939, family owned. Who owns lange? Could it be a company that owns 20 other brands as well? Most records for timepieces at all auctions? When you can say continuous business since 1839 and NOT 1995 corporate owned . Then you can mouth off. until then. SSSHHHHH!!! Patek Philippe IS Horology!! And VC is right behind them!

@@irishceallaigh Here comes the Swiss fanboy. Why can't we just appreciate both Lange and Patek for the masterpieces they are? While we're at it, why not appreciate JLC, FP Journe and Vacheron? They are all behemoths in the watch world. However, I don't like AP. They are a one watch wonder with no true passion for watchmaking. You might disagree with me, but even THE Philippe Dufour agrees with me.
