The average price for a luxury watch these days is around £5,000, a number that has been steadily climbing over the years and one that doesn’t seem to quite represent the value that it used to. Gone are the days when the average salary could buy a person the average luxury watch-let alone something truly high-end. But all is not lost, because there are still some secrets that not everyone knows; with that being said, here are three high-end chronographs that are cheaper than you think.
Featured Watches:
Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Chronograph 1758470
Zenith Chronomaster El Primero 03.2040.400/69.C494
Breguet Type XXI Flyback 3810ST/92/9ZU

Great watches. I own the JLC and it is a great watch (great design, colom wheel chrono, 69 hours power reserve etc.). I miss it it because it is having service right now. You can see it is a JLC by a mile away, so that shows the design strenght of the watch imho. The same with the Zenith. Great design and I want one! The Brequet watch did not appeal to me (I like elements of the watch) although the story of Brequet is very interesting. Brequet was a genius. It is not fair to judge an 15 year old watch (design) with a macro lens because the standards today are so much higher. Lume applied by men is more difficult than lume applied by a robot. With the naked eye the JLC looks beautiful. Just my 2 cents.

@@locutusdborg126 I'd partially agree with you. Loupes were always a thing but probably most buyers wouldn't even know what one was, let alone bring one to buy a watch. Macro lens have been available for a long time in photography. What probably happened is that technology available to watchmakers has just recently been able to be more precise for micro detailing and also buyers/collectors have a lot more access to knowledge that was restricted.

The Breguet has been my daily watch for a couple of years now. It wears really well despite being rather "fat." I didn't really wear it at first because of its thickness, but took it out of the drawer after too many hipster types started complimenting me on the Rolex GMT Master2 Pepsi that used to be my daily watch. It definitely flies under the radar. I also have the Zenith. It's a great watch. I love the size and the history behind it. But it just doesn't get worn much at all. It's a mystery why the Zenith is so unloved. A business associate who also has the same Zenith agrees. You buy it because you admire what it is...but you just don't wear it.

People are complaining about seeing "flaws" in a hand made watch shown under extreme magnification. It's like complaining about seeing brush-strokes on a Rembrandt under a magnifying glass. Perfect lume application, perfect edges and high quality printing are all the outcomes of machine production. FP Journe, A.Lange & Söhne, Patek all have "imperfections" under extreme magnification, and that's exactly what you're paying for - it's called art.
@anthonyshillingford848
@anthonyshillingford848 4 жыл бұрын
@Christopher Wood -MDH- my comment is far from ridiculous. Place those same Grand Seiko watches under a magnifying glass and you'll see imperfections. You may chose to accept those imperfections as part of the character of the watch, I suppose that's your choice as the buyer. Nobody can force you to admire or like the JLC, and that isn't my intention. My point is simply these are hand made watches, it's why they are celebrated. If people want perfection they need to buy machine finished watches, just like if you don't like brush strokes you buy a photograph.....simple really.

@@Dylan-xj8tb does your dad's Rolex have 280 parts though? My Oris didn't need a service until it did... It suddenly went bad 2 years after buying it brand new. Problem is with all luxury watches, it can and often does cost you lots of money during it's lifetime. All I'm saying is you have to factor this in before buying one. JLC is known for overcomplicating and overengineering their watches and they literally make every single component for it. This makes it expensive. Saying all this these 3 watches are in my top 5 dream watches along with Grand Seiko and one day I will buy one when I can easily afford not just the watch but also the servicing costs.

I wonder what will happen to the luxury watch industry during these uncertain times. Would love to see you make a video of it! These watches are beauties though.

Breguet all day long - just like you can’t be a true petrol head without having owned an Alpha - you can’t be a true watch enthusiast without having first owned a Breguet ! My Holy trinity = Breguet , Vacheron and FP Journe

A plug for Casio. I bounght a Casio MRW-200H resin case dive watch in 2018 for $60. It is shockproof and waterproof to 100m. I have taken it down to 150m on a dive in Western Australia. No leaks. It is insanely accurate too, only gaining 5 sec per month. What more could you hope for? Its said the battery will last 5-7 years. It just proves that modern technology in watches has come a long way. It probably only cost Casio $10 to produce. Why would I want anything better? (Unless I was a wanker or a watch snob). I have a friend with an $5,000 Rolex and in two years it has been back for repairs twice so far. Sucked in!

If watch videos were watches, you guys would be Vacheron, Patek or A Lange. Wonderful. Thank you

Hi Team Watchfinder & Co. first of all, thank you very much for making this channel and constantly indulge us with beautiful video full of knowledge and history about timepieces, have been a fan since I found your channel on youtube. May I request a favour to review a 1941 Breguet reference 4296 which was sold at Phillips auction a year ago and the reason behind why Breguet has never made its lug angled on most of its variant? Thank you very much in advance and lookin' forward for more video and topic. Cheers team

1:32 the lume seems a bit sloppy to me. How does the QC at JLC compare to that at Rolex?

The details on that JLC are poorly finished, the lume especially. I'll take the Zenith please

Love the JLC but imagine if someone looked at it under a microscope and realised the underside of the second hand could do with a polish! I’d be so embarrassed, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night worrying about it!

The JLC dial under super macro shows that the finishing is where corners have been cut - the lume, the lettering, the rough underside of the chronograph seconds, etc. That said, you have to squint or use a loupe to see them. I'm a bit torn because the exceptional engineering has me very interested but seeing that finishing quality would nag me in the back of my mind. A pity. The Breguet Type XXI though looks very good. New, it would cost about GBP 13k-14k. This used version coming in just below GBP 6k (yes, I checked the Watchfinder website) looks to be a bargain. I am tempted to pull the trigger...

The crown and pushers on that JLC are a bit over sized. Zenith are incredibly expensive to service, even more than other premium brands.

1:45-the underside of that second or chronograph hand doesn't look pretty. How big is Favre Leuba(I've been seeing ads in the newspapers lately)? Can you also please do a video on Philippe Dufour???
