I share the same sentiments with you. I got mine recently in Vienna on a trip with my mother and she bought it for me; it’s something that has a huge sentimental value now; something to remind me of Vienna, my trip, and the bond and fun I had with my mother. People should relax and just enjoy the watch, as we all do/did when we got our Swatches.

For me the watch is all about the story. I’m quite young (teenager) and this was my first watch. I got the watch on the initial release by camping out with friends for over 20 hours and it was such a fun experience that I’ll never forget. The experience resonated with me to the point that I passed on the £500 profit I could’ve made at the time and decided to keep the watch. If it was all for the materialistic aspect of the watch, I would’ve sold it ASAP, it’s not a watch worth the price but every time I look at that watch when I wear it, it reminds me of the: crazy interactions we had in the night, Americans who were out partying coming and dancing, the rush and buzz from everything that was occurring, etc. I’m not really one that attaches experiences/emotions to materialistic things tbh but this one hit different

I have the Mars model too and it's a fun watch. I love watches but I never understood this massive hate on smart watches in the horological community. Even though it's called "the watch" because of it's form factors and well, because it shows time, it really is just a wearable computer. It doesn't compete with traditional watches that much and basically exists in it's own realm. I don't know any single watch enthusiast who stopped wearing their timepieces/stopped being enthusiast because of smartwatches. If other people did it, it's because they were never really that much into traditional watches or because the smartwatch provided them with functionality they needed. So why not let those people be. Apologies for the little rant and congrats to your gf. It wasn't directed at you, just wanted to share some thoughts.

I had a Jupiter for a few weeks and only wore it twice before selling it again. If they were cheaper and easier to get a hold off, I'd say the Moonswatches were a fun collectible, but being really hard to get a hold of and being too expensive for what you get, kinda leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I'd rather pay a little bit more for a Seiko or a Hamilton that you can actually enjoy for many years.

Having been a watch collector (from my dad to me and to my son and daughter, now) - I was caught up with all the buzzy and hoopla around the Moonswatch (like millions of others). After being very frustrated with the lines and striking out on buying even my 1st through the Christmas holidays, I basically wrote off getting one. Then, on a holiday trip to Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia), much like the narrator, I walked into the main Swatch store, no line and they had a good selection of Moonswatches… over 3 days, picked-up 3. Got the 4th back home in Manila. Yes - they are more “toy” than substance and, delicate too… But, they are fun and it is easy to see why there is such a fever and continued one at that till now. I liken my investment to something to enjoy over its life, which should be a tad longer than a couple of decent bottles of wine over a dinner over the course of a year. So, in short - I enjoy my investment.

I am convinced that at least 1% of the MoonSwatch purchasers will aspire to and probably (eventually) go on to buy the real deal from Omega. Now that creates a whole new band of watch brothers for the future. And as long as Swatch keep churning out millions of them they are quids in £££££. Being a teenage kid when the first Swatch watches came out,you just can't help but love a Swatch . Anyone who was there at the beginning will agree with "it's a Swatch" you just had to be there. So of course I just had to get one , (mission to Mars)for me . And as proud owner of around 47 different swatches dating back to the first release models ,my Swatch sits with its siblings in my collection. And for all those who think it's so light it's almost not there they should try a Swatch skin or if you think it's just plastic,then try the flick flak range,but that's the point of owning a Swatch it's a 2 finger salute to every watch by every brand ever made . And besides the Swatch group owns most of the old watch brands now anyway sort of proves the point.

They said that they would have some back in stock Thursday or Friday. So I went back on Thursday . My wife and daughter went to the cathedral and me and my son waited almost two hours in the blistering sun. In the end I met some lovely people in line and had a great conversation with them. Seeing the chrono and main seconds hands move out of sync, does this have two quartz movements in it? Or how are the internals set up to do that?
@Strideo1
@Strideo1 Жыл бұрын
When you push the chrono start button it engages the chronograph seconds hand at that moment regardless of what the running seconds hand is doing. They run off the same movement but obviously whatever powers each hand isn't linked up to the same seconds gear. It's probably just starting an independent step motor or something.

Growing up, it was cool to have multiple Swatches to wear to school throughout the week and this Moonswatch reminds me of that fad but with a higher price tag. The Swatch store in Houston (The Galleria) had several and after inspecting it, I could see how flimsy the construction looked, particularly the tach buttons and immediately opted against falling for the trap. If you want an Omega, just save an extra 200 bucks on top of what this toy retails and get a vintage piece. Might not be a chrono, but it will definitely be Omega 100%.

I abandoned the queue 2 times in 2022, I figured that if they weren't giving away an authentic Speedy, I just couldn't be bothered anymore. Then last January I walked by a Swatch store in France and my wife persuaded me to go in. Bingo, they had one, just one, so after thinking hard for about 2 seconds, I bought the Sun Moonswatch, with no queues. Then I bought a second one, Earth, early this month. They are fun watches! Yes, they do feel like toys, especially considering I have a real Moonwatch and yes, the strap is awful, but they are fun to wear! I half expected random pedestrians to blurt out: "you got one!", but this hasn't happened yet.

The missus never wears a watch. I have tried to get her at least faintly interested in some of the watches and brands that I like, but it isn't in her. In September of 2022, we went to Switzerland. I had told her all about the Omega x Swatch, and suddenly, something about the colors, the thematic elements, the appearance, the availability, et cetera had her going a full 180° from helping me to find one to her suddenly wanting one for herself! We got ours whilst in Luzerne and we were (pardon the pun) beyond the moon! She has the Uranus whilst I have the Pluto. I think that the bottom line, whether you're a 'watch nut' or not is that this has expanded the visibility of all Swiss brands, and I say this as now she is interested in possibly owning a ladies Tissot model. Sometimes what some consider kitch is just fun and cool to others. Great video, and while I don't give my 'Swpeedy' wrist time often, I still enjoy it.

I managed to get my hands on the Pluto via a friend of the family who happened to work in Warsaw for a few months where the hype, apparently, was modest to non-existent - the only additional cost was shipping from Poland. It's a fun piece which I've entered into rotation with some more 'serious' pieces, all with some tongue in cheek. I agree with all that is being said - it's not a great watch by any means, but it is fun! I quite enjoy wearing it, not because of what it is but because of the journey it sent me on. I queued on the day, on several subsequent days, tried on the off chance, missed the delivery at the Geneva airport by about two hours (I really thought that was the surefire way of getting one). It's a fun conversation piece with some of the watch buffs I work with.

It brought me into the hobby. I am one of those "wear a Gshock for 20 years" guys. I love the look of the Speedmaster. I had a Swatch in the 80s in grade school. So I got it on an impulse. I had a lot of the same back and forth you did. The colors are fun, the look of it is fantastic, the feel and quality is super cheap. This is a $70 watch being sold for $300. But... I don't hate it. It made me want to find out what I like, and I'm going on that journey now. There's room for someone to mass produce a line of quartz chronographs with fun colors in anodized aluminum. The plastic just makes the whole thing feel meh.

The words "Enjoy the mission" on the back sum up these watches and in your case (and mine if I could be bothered to try and get one) this certainly looks to be true. When these were launched it clearly illustrated that the most basic human beings still have that instinct and that is to fight and then flip to make a profit. Some may say survival of the fittest, others may say take your time and save that pain and the ensuing visit to the hospital and/or the dentist. I still want one though even though it may end up being a scratched up pocket watch after a few strap changes.

I got mine (Mission to the Moon) in Milan, Italy, the very day it launched, one year ago. I agree 100% on everything said, especially on the bracelet, which I swapped for a black-grey nato the week after purchasing the watch. After using it daily I must say it has positively surprised me: no evident scratches on the "glass" and zero marks on the case. One year and $250+mln in Sales Revenues and $180+mln in Gross Margin later there's no doubt it was a huge win for the Swatch Group. I would argue that it was a big win for the watch industry as a whole: lots of young people are now paying attention to something else other than the same old (overpriced) steel Submariner.

It's only a disappointment to those who expect this to be an "entry level" Omega. To me these are fun pop interpretations of the Speedy that are very much Swatches first and foremost. It took about 6 months for availability to become reasonable but I was lucky enough to get the 4 that I want (Sun, Venus, Mars and Uranus). They're on my rotation whenever I'm in T-shirt and jeans. None of them are on the original strap and 3 of them use NATO straps to avoid scratching the lugs whenever I feel like a change.

I grew up in Florida. Born in 1954 I was a Space Kid. In 1969 my mom and aunt went to Europe. Mom asked me what I would like her to bring back for me. I immediately said, "Omega Speedmaster watch." The day we landed on the moon she bought one in Zurich for $155.00. I wore the watch every day until 1980 when I was issued a Rolex Sea Dweller in military service. Thereafter I always wore the Speedy in July. It turns out the watch Mom bought was incredibly rare and as I am approaching 70 I sold it to arguably the world expert on Speedmasters. Guess what I bought. Three Speedmaster homage watches, two Paganis and the Phylida with the beautiful ST19 Seagull movement. Omega in my opinion, obliterated the magic of their masterpiece. The homage watches honor that masterpiece. Omega turned a Goddess into a cheap streetwalker in every respect and that was no small factor in influencing my decision to sell my watch, albeit at an astronomical profit.
