I really like that you bring up all aspects of the farm life and doesn't cover up "imperfect" things like thses. With pages like Instagram etc. it seems like everyone is always presenting their perfect life. I like that you take things in a different direction! Keep up the good work. Hilsen Søren fra Danmark :)

Just happened to my rooster yesterday🙁he was eating, fine. I went to fill their waterers, heard a weird strangled crow, and found him flat in the dirt, legs stretched out behind him. I called his name and he made a cluck cluck and faded right away in my arms. I tryed squeezing his chest, but no response. I am so sad. He was about 7 years old. Best rooster I've ever had. Calm, gentle, and always on the lookout to portect the hens. Raised him from an egg.🥚🐣😞

Thanks for the video, I was feeding someone else’s flock today when this happened to the largest hen in the flock. At first I thought it was starvation; I was actually there to feed my own 4 chickens (in a chicken tractor in a shared yard), and noticed these other hens had been out of food for a week. Thus, it’s possible they were fighting over the food before this one died. Anyway, yes she fell over, and all I saw was that she was flapping her wings and kicking her feet for about one minute. I tried to help her, but her neck was already limp while this was going on. It was quite a shock!

Sad to see the cute hen dead..... my hen Monique died of a heart attack in 2022. She was very healthy or I could say she was fat. The veterinary guy cut her open for post-mortem and confirmed it was a heart attack. Take care of these birds you've got a precious breed as it seems from the outlook of poor dead hen

So sorry for your loss. :( One morning a few years ago, I went out to let my Ameraucana chickens out of their coop only to find my head rooster was dead. No predators, the other chickens were fine, necropsy was inconclusive; I think that he also had a heart attack. It is very disturbing to lose an animal, especially like that.

Thank you very much for your comments on finding your chickens dead...and the probable cause. I am only 2 years into having chickens and our few are more like pets than workers. Perhaps we feed them too many snacks/let them feast in garden/free roam in choice bug areas, but they are all hearty. I found my favorite hen dead laying on a portion of her wire section floor (below roosts where the poop can fall through and keep clean) and she had been fine the night before when we tucked them in. No cause could be found, and the other chickens looked worried and stressed because they watched her die. A couple of her toes were stuck in the wire, which has never happened to any of our chickens before and I have a vision that she somehow got stuck in the wire floor and struggled til her death. I have terrible guilt and grief and hope that was not the case and that she did have a heart attack or seizure and as she died, that is why it looked like her feet appeared like they were caught. Are Buff Orphingtons prone to anything like this? Also my Orphingtons seem to be in broody periods so often and we are in the city & can't have more chicks than 4-5. Sorry this is so long. You seem to be a wonderfully kind farmer. Dottie

I just saw what I thought was the most healthiest chicken (Brahma) die of what appears to be a heart attach. Was running around just fine minutes before. It was a little over a year old and was so large people always confused it with a young Turkey.

Inbred defects is what i thought too immediately. I think people should breed more for health standards than only for looks and weight performance and egg laying. I can imagine they have bred most of the domestic animals for the wrong standards, not health which should always be first on the list. Most dogs like the dachshund, the german shepard and boxer are already considered to be well beyond repair. The same often goes for livestock. I don't think it's your fault, Simeon. You have your heart in the right place and know what you're doing.

Yes, what Daniel does with the rabbits is amazing. Smart people, going against the grain. I love that. Show them how it's done. Use your brain. :) The chickens unfortunately sellect themselves but that's not the kind of stock loss you want to encounter every day. Dead animals break your heart and you just hope you can breed to prevent the unnecessary suffering. I think it might be a good thing to only breed the animals that showed good health after a couple of years, retire them to a breeding coop or something. I'm no breeder but something like that would seem logical to me.

What (genetic) selection pressure goes on for looks in puebreed dogs like the bulldog borders on cruelty in my opinion. In production animals longevity is a common criteria to select for.

I have around 20 chickens. Started with 8 3 yrs ago. Had 24 and lost 4 over the past year. I have them as pets and for eggs and could never butcher them. I think mine died from sour crop or some other blockage. I have been able to catch it early and massage the crop among other things to help them recover. But it is always very sad to find one has passed.

I had two roosters do that in the same day. One died when I lifted the roof on his cage to feed him. He looked up at the top being lifted and rolled all the way over and died. While I was getting him out another one in another cage rolled over , flipped a few times and was dead. Like less than 10 minutes apart. Neither one had been sickly at all. I dumped the feed I had been feeding out and washed out everything. It wasn't like poisoning tho. They were happy L was there and perky then just died.

A found a chick lying almost dead outside. It couldn't move and was gasping for air. I thought it got over heated and gave it some glucose water to drink(just dipped the beak in water) . After a while it spat it out and died. Do you think i chocked it? It is warm outside but there are plenty of water feeders and shade. It was 5 days old and was fine in the morning. The temperature was around 88-90 degrees

I just lost my leghorn today and am quiet sad as I've witnessed it and it's really sad. I called the flock to throw some feed and roamed arou d to find random eggs that have been laid.on my way back in the bushes my girl was on her back then her side flapping her wings a little and I know this was not good at all and was something like a heart attack. It happened for around 3-5 minutes. Guessing that old age often will result in a heart attack. I also hope that one a cunvilsion happens that they are unconscious by then and as bad as it looks ot not be as painful as what it seems ... A bit of a cry I'm not having such a nice day as I love my pets !

I just went to water and feed my broiler chickens. I watched one on it's back flapping and screaming. I flipped it over and it died instantly. Legs outstretched. Found one two days ago on it's back stretched out as well. It was cold the last 3 nights. Might have something to do with it. Broilers are full grown I. 10 weeks and barely have feathers.

In the US there was/is an epidemic of pets dying terrible deaths (I used to work at answering service for a veterinarian hospital). Many times the food had molded at bottom of the large bag... and some had been contaminted. Many products from China tainted, even kid's toys here covered in lead. Also a few years back China had many babies die from contaminated baby formula.

I have my 1 year old polish chicken there we found there was nothing wrong with it it was just sitting down in the grass looking tired and weak. We put it in a separate box from the cooper with bedding and a light to just have it recover from it. We left and checked on it 5 minutes later we just find it dead could this possibly be a heart attack?

Ha name Is David I now live in Echo MN but When I was a Child I grew up in the Hills of Kentucky Wear on my Grandma's homestead She had some chickens And told Me we needed A roosting pools put in to keep the stress down I felt she was nuts But in you put in your hen house Long poles about 5FT to 10 FT long a few feet off the ground tow or three one in front of the other about 1 ft apart and as said the first one about two to three feet from the ground and the other a foot hi'er and the next 1 foot hi'er then it one right in front of the other it keeps the stess down gives them a pecking order at less a set of two at a bare minnem but that is what it looks you need is roosting pools put in about 1 inch to 2 inch round stack.......try that

Just now it happened to my older dominique rooster. I heard flapping and squawking, went to see what was going on, and the rooster was huddled in a heap with te hens acting freaked out. I had it happen to a hen of the same flock several weeks ago. And several years ago, I had a big white rooster who had apoplexy mid stride, dropped dead.

I do a lot of kneecaps on chickens and roosters. I seen a lot of things happen like this and what it is it's electrical ground fault if you have Artesian ground water well. I would definitely get a electrical ground probe and check around see if you get any voltage readings that's the thing I see a lot with chicken just hot in the Flop over and die because little current there is will put a strain on chicken and roosters hearts.

Line breeding can exacerbate problems. Hybrid vigor is true. Also, chickens are fickle creatures. They are tough yet vulnerable. I've worked on chicken farms and those hybrid birds raised for meat grow so fast that their bodies struggle to keep up. They die of heart attacks often. Good luck!

@Theorimlig
@Theorimlig 7 жыл бұрын
