Good spot on the eyes at the beginning - the novel has Georgie seeing _blue_ eyes because both Bill's and his mother's eyes were blue. And yes, Beverly's fear was menstruation-related - she didn't want her father to see her as a woman.

@@helios1336 It's sort of mediocre - I ccan see the kernel of a greater movie in there but they neglected to add some set pieces like the giant crow attack or the werewolf that would have made it far scarier. I think what makes these two films so effective, is the attention to what real fear is. Trauma, loss, abuse, addiction….these are all things these kids are dealing with, and pennywise clearly is channeling trauma in finding fear to hurt them. Nothing is worse than reality, and what adults often do to children and how that follows us in life. The second half is just as good, and a great closure to the stories of all the kids!

I saw IT pt 1 in IMAX with my friends the week it debuted. We were in a packed theater and seated right in the middle. It was a true white-knuckle horror film the whole way through. I'll never forget the shock when Georgie's arm was bitten off and they showed the whole thing and lingered on him trying to crawl away. It was just incredible.

Nice pick up on the eye color changing early on Ash, that theme is used in several Stephen King novels (i.e the dark tower series). In IT (if I'm not mistaken) Pennywise is a vampire of sorts, but instead of feeding on blood IT feeds on fear. So IT changes it's eye color to appear more human to Georgie to lure him in.

I grew up on the Tim Curry version from the 90's. This one is cool too. Each have their own charm. This is one of my favorite Stephen King books as well... Shit it's probably my favorite Horror book of all time. The reason the parents act the way they do is Pennywise has sort of a mental hold over the people of the town. He feeds off everyone. Ash... You're right about fear seasoning the meat. It actually says that in the book lol

For the record, this story takes place in Maine. Many of the homes in the northeast are notoriously large and beautiful as you saw in the opening scene with Bill and Georgie. But it's important to note that they don't represent the majority of the country. Sadly, most of us are jammed together in tight quarters, tiny apartments, etc. Especially in the larger metropolitan cities. Rising housing costs and low wages makes it incredibly difficult to find good places to live.

Most of New England is like that. We have our new neighborhoods, but usually those are where yuppies who didn’t grow up in town live, and they are usually on the outskirts in the marshes. The natives usually live in the creaky old colonials and Victorians, the ones that aren’t museums. You can’t paint your house a certain color if the Historical Society puts the kibosh on it

I think there was something in the book (it’s been a minute since I read it) where the reason IT chose Derry was because the adults tended to look the other way. Thereby making it easier for IT to terrorize the children.

Just a question you know The Shinning, The Green Mile and IT are written by the same author Stephen King and all take place within the King Multiverse. Also, can we just appreciate how Hannah says "It's art darling" perfect accent. Also Ash you are 100% right IT is an entity from a universe beyond our own, a higher dimension. IT is a being of pure ravenous consumption. Fear is ITs ultimate weapon. According to IT, fear makes the meat taste better because ITs true form is beyond our comprehension, IT cannot be seen by us. IT was wounded in a great battle with another being from the Macroverse ITs home dimension and IT landed or crashed, in Derry Maine, forever damaged but far from beaten. While it seems IT cannot regain ITs full power or return wholly to the Macroverse IT is far more powerful and complex a being compared to human beings. Thus impossible for us to destroy IT even if we were aware of IT and its presence. Also when IT landed IT's very essence IT's evil began immediately corrupting the entire area of the land on which Derry would one day be built. As a result, every single slab of concrete, wooden pole or blade of grass is a part of IT. IT even affected the people who can't see or listen to that voice that tells them to stand up, look out or be counted. They ignore it because IT is affecting them. IT targets children mostly because children's fears are more corporeal than that of adults whose fears are infinitely more complex. But if you got an adult who was really afraid of spiders, cats or dogs etc. IT could easily take them. In the book a black club called The Black Spot was burned down by members of a racist group, Dick Holleran from The Shinning was there. IT was there too and in the form of a giant crow, IT swept down and carried off people in the crowd in the confusion. IT is definitely one of the most terrifying ideas in any medium. King has come up with so many freighting evil beings like IT, Leland Gaunt, Kurt Barlow, The Overlook Ghosts, The True Knot worst of all of them Randall Flagg. But they all reflect very human fears and evils, IT is that fear people have of children becoming victims of evil grown-ups. As King himself said, "Pennywise/IT is a great stand-in for someone like Ted Bundy. He didn't look like a monster but he killed god knows how many women and girls, some were just children really". That is Stephen King's genius. Please watch The Shinning's better sequel Doctor Sleep.

@@slyesttrash6778 Hahaaa true I never read anything beyond book 1, I find King's other books better but I will finish it someday. I don't think you need to read The Dark Tower in order to enjoy or understand his books or monsters. I think IT works fantastically well as a ghost story, eldritch horror story and applicable fear story. however, it's just difficult to understand IT because of IT's nature and the fact IT is a being beyond our own dimension and understanding.

27:47 A part from the book "all the chemicals of fear flooded the body and salted the meat" 31:09 This man is on point, this is why the people in the car looked at the bullied cutting an H into another kids body and just drove past with a balloon in the back, but I'll be honest, it never really registered with me that that was the reason why the dad was so creepy.

Fun fact: Bill Skarsgard (aka Pennywise), actually PHYSICALLY did that spooky thing where one of his eyes just dips off with absolutely NO "special effects" (or CGI, etc...) Anyway,, Bill HADER (aka Richie Tozier), didn't know that, and when he told Bill SKARSGARD (Pennywise) just how scary he thought that effect was, Skarsgard said "Oh like THIS?!" ...and just DID IT (out of nowhere) scaring the absolute $HIT out of Hader!!🤣👍

Tim Curry was iconic as Pennywise in the television version in the 80s, and Bill Skarsgard had to pull it off with his turn. Both Pennywises were the best thing in both versions, including the weaker sequels or adult versions. The adult storyline wasn’t as engaging as when they were kids; however, the film version is better than its TV counterpart. Ash was shocked that Georgie was killed off as a kid in a horror movie, but this was in the book by Stephen King. IT (2017) is much more gruesome than the two-parts TV version. Ash might be interested in The Blob remake (1988), where there is no mercy just because you’re a child. Also, another Stephen King adaptation where a toddler was killed off is the classic Pet Semetery (1989), and Miko Hughes did a fantastic job.
