Tarantino has mentioned that he watched John Carpenter's "The Thing." He appreciated how the heroes were confined and infiltrated by a terrifying monster. This inspired him to create his own gangster rendition of the movie, where characters are holed up in a warehouse and infiltrated by a cop. I find this concept thrilling!

He also got the idea for the format from the ending of the Hong Kong movie City on fire the last 20 minutes of that mirror this plot

I think Mr. Pink got away from the cops at the end with the diamonds and took them to Marcellus Wallace, the mobster from Pulp Fiction, and give him the diamonds in exchange for a few life and new identity, and ended up working at Jackrabbit Slims as a Buddy Holly waiter, and things were fine until the diamonds were stolen and they were in the shiny suitcase in Pulp Fiction.

It's a common mistake people think Mr pink got away after he runs outside you can barely hear someone faintly yell and gunshots. The cops were outside about to come in and pink runs into them. It's worth watching that part again turned up.👍

If you want to see more heist films, some recommendations: The Asphalt Jungle (1950), a classic Hollywood noir/heist starring Sterling Hayden (General Jack Ripper in "Dr. Strangelove") and with an early appearance by Marilyn Monroe; Rififi (1955), a French film with an amazing half-hour almost-silent heist sequence; and Cash on Demand (1961) a less-well-known British film where a bank manager's family is held hostage to force him to help rob his own bank.

Another good noir is The Naked City (1948). Filmed right there in New York City. Practically a documentary about New York City itself. Definitely worth a watch.

The films "City on fire" and " The Taking of Pelham One, two,three" did a fair amount of the leg work for this film but ol' QT does amazing work with his influences.

Can you imagine watching this in 1992 after the typical 80s action movies? Nobody had seen anything like this. In the same way that Nirvana and similar bands changed music after the synth-80s. It was an exciting time, for sure!

I like to think of Reservoir Dogs as a play put on film that was never a play. You could easily adapt a stage version with little changes, as it runs on ~4 sets (diner, warehouse, cars/street exterior, an office) and a small cast.

One can hear the commotion of Mr Pink being shot by the police right before they enter the "Warehouse" (actually the store room of a funeral home. Note the caskets)

Vic/Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen) is the brother of Vincent Vega (John Travolta) from Pulp Fiction. In fact, the role of Vincent was originally written for Madsen also, but he had to turn it down because he was busy filming Wyatt Earp at the time. Tarantino originally had plans to make a prequel about the brothers called The Vegas Brothers, but it was cancelled because it never got of the ground & both Travolta & Madsen had become older. There was a thought about making the movie about their twin brothers instead, but even that idea felt far fetched. I think The Vegas Brothers story became a book instead. I always thought that they could turn the story into an adult animated movie, in the same style as the animated origin story of O-Ren in Kill Bill & perhaps giving it a little Ralph Bakshi style or the same style as the 1981 animated movie Heavy Metal, which I know Tarantino would definitely do 😉 And of course, have both John Travolta & Michael Madsen voice reprise their roles. And If Tarantino doesn't want to direct it, he can always produce it & it can still have his style & touch. Just look at Gremlins & Poltergeist, both produced by Steven Spielberg & even though he didn't direct them, they still had his style & touch.

@@ShreeNation If you volume up at Mr. White crawling to Mr. Orange you can hear Mr. Pink getting arrested by the cops that were waiting outside. Mr. White shot Orange & was shot by the cops at the end. There are a few deleted scenes, one where Orange & his partner is meeting a female computer analyst expert at McDonalds (I think) & they find out more about Mr. White. And there's another, but it's more of a behind the scene shot, where we actually get to see the ear getting cut off. But they didn't use it because in the end they realised that it didn't look realistic & looked more obvious that it was fake. And this is a lowbudget movie so they couldn't do better than that.

Trivia: John Travolta’s character in Pulp Fiction is the brother of Michael Madsen’s character in this film. There was talks of a film focusing on the two but it never materialized.

As far as the tipping, it’s kind of a messed up system, but I think Steve Buschemi makes some good points. McDonalds employees don’t make a salary, it’s hourly for most of them. And if we are talking about waitresses, it depends on where you work. Because some waitresses make enough in a few nights to pay for their rent. And there is definitely preferential treatment given to young attractive girls. They get a job because of their looks and then customers will tip more because of their looks, even if the service was mediocre. I’ve worked a few restaurants so this isn’t coming outta nowhere.

Yea but at McDonald's they make at least minimum wage, not that you can live on that and waitresses make less than minimum wage because they're expected to receive tips instead.

I've been watching this movie on and off ever since '93. I even had the soundtrack at one time. One of my all time favorite movies. I believe Mr. Pink was shot and killed at the end. He should have taken his own advise and took off someplace else.

Tips are a lame excuse from restaurants and coffee shops in order to pay miserable salaries to waitress and garçons. Here in Brazil we don't have this either but we have a "services fee". Do restaurants split that fee between employees in addition to their salary (miserable too)? I really don't know.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this but this is basically a kinda sorta remake of "CITY ON FIRE" directed by Ringo Lam and starring Chow Yun Fat. Hong Kong film from 1987. The way Harvey Keitel describes the robbery...you can litetally synch up his monologe with the robbery sceme in that film... they actually do show it there. Also, the gangsters here are basically wearing the same suits and skinny ties from that film. Remember, Quentin used to work in the big video store in the 80s. Hed seen pretty much every movie 😂

Tim Roth is English. Although best known for parts playing Americans, due to his skills at imitating accents, he is from London. I'm surprised you picked up on a rare slip. But he was not only putting on an American accent, it was a very particular dialect, and he was playing someone who probably didn't have that dialect naturally but emulated it in order to fit in amongst gangsters. So one little slip into his actual accent is perhaps to be expected. Let's say he got confused for a moment.

I agree tips shouldn’t be up to the customer, because if the customer is broke or on a budget, they won’t tip anyway. I have a household of 7 to think about, so I don’t tip normally because I have to budget 900 for a whole week between 7 people

Wait staff get a salary but it's usual near minimum wage. Tips are extra income. I was a bus boy while at university and the waitresses sometimes shared their tips with us. I couldn't care less about tips since you had to declare it on your taxes.

Cool movie but you probably should have watched this before Pulp Fiction. Definitely need to also watch True Romance. A script he sold to get the money to make this movie. Directed by Tony Scott and has a great cast and is a hell of a wild ride.

Love the reaction but you talk a bit too much in the sense that you miss alot of important details and as a viewer it’s bothersome. Especially Tarantino movies, you can’t miss a second.
