In this biographical drama, Selena Quintanilla (Jennifer Lopez) is born into a musical Mexican-American family in Texas. Her father, Abraham (Edward James Olmos), realizes that his young daughter is talented and begins performing with her at small venues. She finds success and falls for her guitarist, Chris Perez (Jon Seda), who draws the ire of her father. Seeking mainstream stardom, Selena begins recording an English-language album which, tragically, she would never complete.

This movie hits hard. It's impossible to not cry at the end of it, especially when they show the montage of pictures and videos of her as her song "Dreaming Of You" plays. Being Mexican-American myself, Selena was basically our Princess Diana. She was incredibly talented and supremely kind, But ultimately died young. She was only 23 at the time of her death. Side note: That red lip is AMAZING on you

Her father did the right thing making sure she stayed true to her roots and broke the barriers through the tejano music scene. Everything was aligned right for her. This is the only movie that breaks me lol every time I watch it, whether I'm watching it on my own or watching a reaction like yours, the tears come. That day I was driving home when I heard the news of her passing. Everyone in Corpus was probably calling other family members and friends because I couldn't get my calls through. It would say all cruits are busy! Everyone was crying and couldn't get enough of her music playing on the radio. They did hold a vigil for her and there were so many people with poster, signs and candles! It took a while for Corpus to recover from her death!

I’m the same when the movie ends. I wasn’t alive when she was alive but I’m such a big fan of her since I was little. I’m always thankful to Selena for representing us Mexican American in such an amazing way. Not only that but being such a role model to so many young girls like me who grew up listening to her and am now a women. She was taken from us too soon but in those few years she gave us she made such a huge impact on this world.

I remember watching his interview of him talking about that song, it definitely is a love song for sure. It’s just the energy around it, also the construction of the melodies and beat in general is why it sounds so sad. But I’m actually happy that in the song there is a key change and you can kinda feel a shift in the song because of it

Great reaction I feel you when you said that you have sort of a morbid type feeling before watching this movie. Selena’s story is identical to Michael Jackson’s story. Growing up with a parent who raises you to perform and to do music and touring.

I look at Selena as a cautionary tale cuz not every bitch is your friend and sometimes you have to treat people at a distance here some stuff you might not know:Selena’s ring: it was purchased in January 1995 for $3,000 dollars and was swiped with Selena’s corporate bank card because Yolanda did pocket those ladies money. The motel used for the death scene is a real motel it’s the Super 8 in San Antonio, TX Ww White Road also when Selena dropped the ring in the ambulance that really did happen but in the movie it was J.Lo’s stand-in. The only song ever recorded by Selena at Q Productions was Dreaming of You and Q Productions is used for the I could fall in love scene.

She was going to dominate the english music industry. Can you just imagine the many collabs she could have done with other singers? A duet with Whitney Houston, a duet with Celine Dion heck, I would have loved to have seen her do a duet with Andrea Bocelli!
