Yeah, but he doesn't have the right look* so he can't be the final love. *The right "look" in many of these love stories, whether intentional or not, tends to be white skin. See After, The Kissing Booth, Twilight, and I think 365 Days. In Twilight specifically, the author saw that fans were way more into the much more normal and sweet Jacob (who is also Indigenous and close to Bella's age) and decided to start writing him as an asshole to get people back on Edward's side. It's a pretty gross trend, imo, that shows a lot of these author's (and/or the filmmakers') internalized biases.

Oh my god I forgot about this movie! This girl I was seeing years ago asked for us to watch this together. She insisted and said it was her favorite movie. She CRIED while we watched it. I was deeply uncomfortable the entire time as in my last relationship I was cheated on and it was awful. But this girl knew that, had us watch anyways, and then told me “I want to have a relationship like them”. That was the last red flag I needed to see before deciding I no longer wanted to see this person. A week or so later and her friend sent me numerous texts harassing me so overall a great experience with both this movie and this person 10/10 highly recommend you watch👍

If you're team Landon now, you'll bash your head against the wall when she sidelines the successful, caring, charming Dylan Sprouse character in favor of lusting after Hardin in the second movie. And yes, I watched the series in an emotional time in my life. Ngl, the angsty teen romance in the first one was exactly what I needed at the time but her idiotic decisions in the second movie just completely turned me off from the series. Dylan Sprouse's character is seriously painted as an almost perfect man but she wants angry boy with daddy issues instead 😭
@eldritchteletubby93192 жыл бұрын
Truly. I watched Cynical Review's review of the second after movie, and I think that a far more interesting movie would be Sprouse's character and Tessa's mom banding together to rescue Tessa from this abusive relationship. Those two are the only engaging characters in the whole series.
@gothichorrorthotcore81912 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, I don’t remember the circumstances in which I witnessed any part of the second movie, it was probably a commentary channel, but yeah Dylan Sprouse was the only choice because he actually behaved like a reasonable human who cared about her in like a healthy way but no she decides to be thirsty for a quirky(toxic) bad boy (just a mess not even endearingly) with a book fetish

I read up to book 3 when they came out in the physical format, and I was freaking 13 years old. The movies are quite toxic but much better than the books, they actually toned them down A LOT. Hardin in the books is far more unlikable and cruel: in the bet he actually kept the used condom and the BLOOD STAINED SHEETS from when they had sex as proof; he's really possessive and manipulative; he had a serious alcohol addiction and anger management issues than are NEVER treated or taken seriously (zero character growth); he's a GASLIGHTER; there's no communication in their relationship and the only way they solved their problems wad through sex. And (TRIGGER WARNING) in the book the scene where he talks about his dad explains that the consequence of him being in debt with the wrong guys and not being home was that said guys broke into his house and gang r*ped his mom in front of him.

i read the entire freaking series and honestly i would have been fine if it was just a book about good girl falls in love with bad boy, tried to "fix him", nearly destroy herself in the process (optional) and move on with real character growth instead, we get tessa moves away to ny and they spend like 2 years ish apart and hardin gets a out of page character development and they get back together. no. pls tell me how they actually grew as characters ffs anyways this book is lengthy with a cliche ending at the end after 4 books, with minimal chracter growth, read with caution (and only if youre very bored)

i hate how today's media and influencers are making toxic relationships an "aesthetic" and something to be romanticized and accepted ffs
@psychicbyinternet7 ай бұрын
Not just today. Media has always done that. Toxic relationships where the man was the king of the house and the woman was the servant used to be the norm. I hate it so much though. I think it really fucks us up as a society to have so many "Beauty and the Beast"-style stories where someone is treated terribly or kidnapped and then they get Stockholm or trauma bonded and fall in love and people think "ok, maybe if I'm nice enough to this awful person who is attractive, they will eventually love me and become a good person." Except they don't, they just realize they can exploit you and treat you like shit. Sometimes they change but it's up to them and not someone trying to change them.

Storytime: I was browsing on wattpad when I was like 15(??) and I came across this story and I read the description, seemed cool, so I started reading it. Let me say now that I did not read the tags-(which you should definitely do on these sites-) I just checked if the description was interesting and if it was completed bc I’m sure a lot of people can relate to being super frustrated for finding good stories and then they’re discontinued (I know stuff happens but still) So anyway- I’m reading this story and some of the names of the guys this girl meets are...odd, like familiar odd, first she meets a guy (I can’t remember if it was Louis or Niall I think it was Niall Horan) now I didn’t know WHY but the name stood out but again- I didn’t know why- so I kept reading, then she meets a Liam Payne and he’s either with (I think) Louis Tomlinson or she’s dating a drab dude with that name (this was so long ago) and I’m like “okay- these names are REALLY familiar but w h e r e - Then she meets a Zayn Malik- and I’m like- bro wouldn’t it be funny if this was a 1D fic bc it’s starting to seem like one- and then she meets the love interest- HARRY FUCKING STYLES. I L O S T IT . I don’t really care if other people like fan fiction about real people but to me it’s a bit weird when they’re like an actual person (ig bc I don’t wanna see them in that light) so I stopped reading after a while and forgot about it Then Kurtis Connor makes a video talking about it then I was like “man this plot is really familiar-“ AND THEN ITS BASED OFF THAT STORY THEY JUST CHANGED THE NAMES I LOST MY SHIT PART 2- And now I find this video I swear the universe just doesn’t want me to forget about the time I accidentally read 1D fanfiction😭
@bernadet4000 Жыл бұрын
This is hilarious honestly I read all of the fics (bc back in the day I did read rpf which now makes me cringe so hard) and when I tell you I SCREAMED in the movie theater when I saw the trailer for the first time... Not out of excitement tho, I was just so fucking shocked. So, obviously, I went to see it when it came out and it was the most horrible experience ever bc me and my bff kept remembering the fanfic. So, we almost got kicked out bc they took a quote directly out of the fic and we couldn't stop laughing

@padawanofconfusion59544 ай бұрын
I agree that these types of fics about real people are creepy. I spent a lot of time on wattpad as a teen and moved elsewehere as an adult and still think so. Only upside are funny videos where youtubers reenact fics about them (like Drew and Danny that one time)

I'm an author on Wattpad and when I heard it was being made into a movie, I had never read it, but knew it was quite the popular fan-fiction. I was super curious as to how they were going to pull that off. Just as horrible as anticipated and I wonder how awful the story was. I'm genuinely shocked a woman older than me wrote the story/stories and thought such an abusive relationship was adorable and that people actually loved it. I clearly have a lot of problems with these haha.

I always watch After with my boyfriend to have a good laugh . When we meet a new person , sometimes we ask them about this movie , and if they like it, then there is something wrong. I know you shouldn't judge someone by their movie preferences, but strangely people who like this turn out to be toxic.
