I like how Cinderella got offered a job because of the dress she wore to the ball, which just so happens to be the one dress SHE DID NOT MAKE. The Fairy Godparent made it. And sure, she _designed_ it, but she also called the design "pure fantasy" and implied that she herself does not have the skills to actually make it (or at least she doesn't believe she does, and it's not like we get any proof otherwise). So basically, Cindy's a fraud. Is there any reason Fab G couldn't have just magically restored the dress that Idina Menzel splashed ink on? The one Cindy designed _and_ spent weeks working on and pouring her heart and soul into and was really proud of? And make _that_ the dress that the foreign queen admires so much that it prompts her to hire Cindy as her personal designer on the spot?

Yeah it would've made so much more sense if the 'impossible' dress was one she worked sleepless nights over getting to work and finally figured out just before the ball. Show the audience that she's worked herself to exhaustion but is feeling the euphoria of having this dream project **finally** work out... only to have the stepsister ruin it. So many of this movie's problems could've been solved with 5 minute rewrites.

The cinematography in this movie really needed help. There's an intro scene with Ella where she goes from her basement quarters up to the main part of the house while singing. I remember trying to see all the set work behind her during the shot and realizing the scene could've had potential if the camera just pulled back a few feet. It was one long shot that goes upstairs and through the building: pretty cool in concept. It could've shown the difference between her drab conditions and the opulent decor of the main building, but the camera was so close that I could barely see details around her.

Honestly I’d love a Cinderella remake if they added some sort of lgbt twist to it to at least make it stand out more than the others Like make Cinderella a trans women so the scene of her getting the dress is more emotional, and really lean into the abuse she deals with at home because she simply wants to be herself Make her meet the prince or princess (part of me votes for princess just for more lgbt rep but prince is fine too-) while being forced to be perceived as a guy. Have them relate to being put into roles they don’t want- Give me my gay/trans fairy tales dammit!

I wanna see modern Cinderella interpretation where they actually acknowledge that Cinderella is a victim of child abuse/domestic abuse and was basically forced into servitude the moment her dad died. She saw the ball and the prince (but she didn’t know it was the prince at that time) as an opportunity to escape from the a toxic household. So many modern interpretations paint her a weak damsel in distress that needed saving from a prince. B r u h.

@@Raya-ir4tm bro w h a t? Since when? Edit: Again, most of modern adaptations feel the need to portray Cinderella as tough, sassy, tomboyish, etc because it’s seen as stronger from her usual gentle and calm demeanor. Not once have I seen an adaptation straight up acknowledge Cinderella’s experiences as ACTUAL abuse. Yes, it’s portrayed as “mistreatment” or “boohoo, her family is mean >:(“ but never straight up abuse that has possible long term affects on her. It’s not recognizing “show not tell”, it’s just piss poor writing. Don’t get snobby.

Musicals that take pop songs or songs not made for that show are called jukebox musicals, it's just a musical with the modern/popular music arranged to help the story along, think Mama Mia and 9-5! Had an idea of how this movie could have been done: The aspiring dress-maker is Cinderella's friend, who lives nearby and they hang out sometimes when the step-family are away. Cinderella tells her about the crazy night with the fairy godmother and the ball but she's just looking at her like she's on crack or something. Then when the prince comes to try the glass slipper on her she knows it's real. When Cinderella is getting married she asks the friend to make the wedding dress and now she has an opportunity to prove herself in front of the kingdom. That'd be sweet I think.

I know it’s pure fantasy, but this movie rips out my historical fashion loving heart and takes a piss on it with its trash costume design. That being said, Cinderella was a victim of abuse and finally had one night of freedom in which she fell in love with someone kind and charming, turns out he was the ✨prince✨who was looking for a bride. Y’all, during this time people had arranged marriages since childhood! So them meeting a falling in love in one night with someone who was kind and caring was absolutely doable. As well as her finding courage to leave her abusive family. She’s very lucky, yes, but I know she would have run away with the man even if he wasn’t a prince. She chose her freedom. I can’t with Cinderella shaming, she’s my favorite Disney princess *please*

Oooh excited for this. The only good thing about the Cinderella movie was James Acaster, saying that I didn’t actually didn’t watch it I just watched the clips he’s in….

I was going to Alaska on a cruise in 2022, and the channel kept playing that one Amazon Cinderella for almost like 3 times now. My mind was melting every time the movie started.

ModernGurlz did a video on this and discusses why the movie is bad and how it can improve. She discusses how the movie is supposed to be about Girl Power and being independent yet Cindy can never do anything on her own. Also the fact that Cinderella tries to take credit for the dress that the Fairy God parent made is hilarious and shows you why she can't do much on her own.
