Godfather 2 one of the most overrated movies in my opinion. I like it and it is perfectly made, but for my taste way to long and the story is not near as interesting as the first one. I like Michaels development and how they showed the history of Vito, but in my opinion it doesnt come close to the first part which is just perfect.

7:50 -- Notice that Tom keeps right on eating while Woltz chews him out. He takes bigger and bigger bites so he can finish it all. Why? Because he's been on the go for several hours and this is the first decent meal he's had since leaving New York. So he's going to finish eating this luxurious meal no matter what.

Godfather I and II are masterpieces of cinema by Coppola. His mother plays Mama Corleone in both movies and his daughter Sophia is the baby being baptized at the end as Michael is getting even with all of his enemies. I liked Godfather III but it came many years after I and II and it feels like the Star Wars prequels. I think both Copolla and Lucas neither of them really had their heart into making their respective movies.

The Godfather was the first movie that from then on made me want to watch movies that weren't just fun escapism. I always enjoy the atmosphere of the first movie especially. I read Mario Puzu's book and his book, The Sicilian. The Sicilian will make anyone want to go eat forever only in Sicily.

I'm a Sicilian American who grew up in the Bronx, and I recognize many of the locations in the film (it used a lot of NY locations), even the street where Sonny wails on Carlo (it was in East Harlem, off Pleasant Av.). In fact, in the book, the hospital Vito was in was supposed to be the hospital where I was born--which was already closed by the time the film was shot and instead they used an older hospital on Long Island

The guy that played Luca Brasi was a professional wrestler in real life. He was also a bodyguard for some mob guy. This mob guy was on location while the movie was filming and the director saw this huge bodyguard and wanted him in the movie. He wasn't an actor so was really awkward saying his lines. That's why they showed him practicing his speech so that the awkwardness would be authentic. A couple of good mob movies from this same time period is "The Valachi Papers" with Charles Bronson. It was based on a true story. Also a more light hearted movie from that time is "The Sting". It stars Robert Redford and Paul Newman and was nominated for many Academy Awards.

The conversation with Carlo is always interesting to me. Obviously, all the circumstances pointed to him for his role in Sonny's murder. And if Carlo had just been some ordinary peripheral gangster, Michael might have had him killed without any discussion. But since Carlo was his sister's husband, Michael needed to remove any last possible doubt before going forward. So although everything looked like a foregone conclusion, Carlo probably sealed his own fate in that conversation. Now, if Carlo had maintained his innocence, I think it's possible that Michael might have let him fly to Vegas and kept an eye on him until he could get the final confirmation he needed.

So, that's how they "saved" scenes/shots - 'cause they couldn't just reshoot due to time constraints, location rental/permits, losing daylight (etc.) Soooo, a studio/crew were/are powerless against certain uncontrollable factors. There's a lot more to it, but you get "the picture." 🤭✌️🤓
