JURASSIC PARK 2 MOVIE REVIEW | 29:28 - 31:08
The Lost World: Jurassic Park Movie Description:
John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) summons chaos theorist Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) to his home with some startling information -- while nearly everything at his Jurassic Park had been destroyed, his engineers happened to have a second site, where other dinosaurs were kept in hiding. It seems the dinosaurs on the second island are alive and well and even breeding; and Hammond wants Malcolm to observe and document the reptiles before Hammond's financiers can get to them.
The Lost World: Jurassic Park is a 1997 American science fiction action film. It is the second installment in the Jurassic Park franchise and the second film in the Jurassic Park trilogy. A sequel to 1993's Jurassic Park and loosely based on Michael Crichton's 1995 novel The Lost World, the film was directed by Steven Spielberg and written by David Koepp. The film stars Jeff Goldblum, returning as the eccentric chaos theorist and mathematician Ian Malcolm, as well as Julianne Moore, Pete Postlethwaite, Arliss Howard, Vince Vaughn, and Vanessa Lee Chester. Four years after the original film, John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) sends a team, led by Malcolm, to Isla Sorna, the second island Hammond's company InGen used to make the dinosaurs, to study the animals while coming into conflict with a team led by InGen to bring some of the dinosaurs back to the United States.
After the original novel's release and the first film's success, fans pressured Crichton for a sequel. Following the book's publication in 1995, production began on a film sequel. Filming took place from September to December 1996, primarily in California, with a shoot in Kauai, Hawaii, where the first film was shot. The Lost World's plot and imagery is substantially darker than Jurassic Park. It makes more extensive use of computer-generated imagery to depict the dinosaurs, along with life-sized animatronics.
Released on May 23, 1997, the film received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the visuals and action sequences, but criticized the writing and character development. The film was a box office success, grossing over $618 million worldwide, becoming the second-highest-grossing film of 1997. It earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects, losing to Titanic. A sequel, Jurassic Park III, was released on July 18, 2001.

The Lost World gets a lot of negative criticism. And I would probably agree with that criticism when it comes to the San Diego element at the end. But....In my opinion, The Lost World is still the second best movie in the Jurassic Park Franchise after Jurassic Park. It's thrilling, has a good cast (especially Pete Postlethwaithe as the big game hunter), and has a terrific musical score. RIP Eddie.

I kind of agree, there are some great set pieces in this movie but the overall story connecting them is lacking. Also, I had forgotten how many deaths Vince Vaughn’s character causes. He releases the captured dinosaurs, causing the initial rampage through the camp; he brings back the baby T-Rex, which gets Richard Schiff’s character killed; then he stops Roland from shooting the big T-Rex by sabotaging his elephant gun, leaving it free to continue its rampage, plus of course if Roland had killed it there would have been no San Diego escape. The man’s a plague…

Actually Mell, Spielberg has an interest in creating a sequel to the first movie. Originally, he wanted the sequel to revolve around the shaving cream that had the embryos in them but Michael Crichton, the author of Jurassic Park 1990, created a sequel due to fans wanting one. Spielberg initially went to create an adaptation of The Lost World. Despite the sequel having its flaws, I consider it to be a solid one to its predecessor. It’s one of my favorite sequels of the franchise. I like that it is more different from the first movie. It has a darker tone to it. I recommend you read the books, Jurassic Park 1990 and The Lost World 1995. It’ll give you a full Jurassic experience and a new perspective to the films a little bit. Nice reaction.

Velociraptors were basically the biggest threat in the book, and to make them appear scarier in the first movie, they made them bigger than they actually were. But then (after the movie) utahraptor was described in 1993, and that one was basically as tall as a human (measuring 4.9-5.5 m/16-18 ft and weighing 280-300 kg/620-660 lb) - but they had to stick with velociraptors

19:48 not a raptors nest. Those are Compsognathus, or Compy. It's a small predatorial dinosaur that is said to have a venomous bite. So their whole hunting strategy is to swarm him, get a lot of bites in and then wait. Thats why later he is disoriented and stumbling around.
@slchance8839
@slchance8839 2 жыл бұрын
yes. according to the book, the compy's have a cumulative narcotic affect. So the more they bite you, the poison accumulates and you get disoriented, dizzy and tired. When you fall unconscious, they tear you apart like land-piranha. additionally, this guy's death scene was Hammond's death scene in the first book. I guess they liked the old actor guy too much to do that to him, but it's almost shot for shot for what happened to him in the book. And the little girl on the beach getting bitten is from opening of the FIRST book.

@@gergopiroska5749 100% Micheal Crichton took some artistic liberties with the dino characteristics. I try to suspend believe because there's no evidence that... -raptors were smart -or could hunt in packs -or had intelligent coordination (like walking in a 2x2 formation hunting the kids in the kitchen) -could communicate -or couldnt start walking and hunting immediately out of the egg (like cossawaries can), instead of helplessly poking out -they ate people-sized prey instead of much smaller prey (like tigers hunt gazelle) or much larger prey (like killer whales hunt blue whales) -didnt see in infra-red spectrum (like some snakes) -triceratops didnt know which berries were poison -t-rexes couldnt jump OVER the fence (those massive hind leg muscles) -t-rexes couldnt see things not moving -dinos moved in heards -dilophosaurs spit venom -that they spit venom in your eyes -that they had a collar fringe that flared out -brachiosaurs werent dangerous herbivores, like hippos -any of the dinosaurs were actually that color, instead of colorful like parrots, tucans, or peacocks or dull and camouflaged like tigers, giraffes, or leopards there was a big part of me that had to realize a massive percentage of the movie was pure speculation In true Spielberg fashion, definitely inspires the imagination though.

Fun Fact! Spielberg was REALLY on board with a sequel. If i remember correctly, he asked Michael Crichton to write a sequel novel. His original idea was a team looking for Dennis Nedry's Barbasol can for the embryo's (which is why theres a lingering shot of the can), but Crichton wrote The Lost World instead

Honestly, this is my favorite out of the Jurassic Park movies. And it’s probably because it feels more like a horror movie and these people are at the mercy of dinosaurs who are living on this island.

It's funny you say that Spielberg probably didn't wanna do this movie. In reality he basically told the studio and Micheal Crichton that he was gonna make a sequel whether they liked it or not. That made Crichton write a sequel in order to prevent anyone from twisting his narrative of Jurassic Park. The movie is also very different from the book. Whereas Jurassic Park is very identical to the book.

Controversial opinion, Lost World is my favorite of the series with the original in second. This movie was my whole summer in 97, anything that had the logo on it I had to have it; toys, apparel, cereal! I watched it on repeat when it came out on video, me and my family. That said over time I did begin to see all the issues with the movie, mainly with the characters, they came off as self righteous, arrogant, sometimes stupid. Malcolm and Eddie were the two characters I liked, Eddie was a decent dude who probably wanted to run but didn't want to abandon his friends, so he stuck it out to the bitter end. Malcolm because he was the one who knew how things were going to go, but everybody brushed him off. Despite the issues, it's still my favorite and I still enjoy it.

I've always loved this movie simply because it gave me so much T-Rex and raptor content. I'd say the first movie is the most quality one and had a sense of majesty to it, while the second one is just a cool fun movie with a lot more flaws but still plenty to love and some genuinely great new concepts. The third one is just a dumb popcorn movie but I do still enjoy it even if mostly just for laughs.

At first I hated this movie because my favorite Paleontologist Alan Grant was not in the movie as actor Sam Neill was too busy with the Sci-fi Horror Thriller Event Horizon. The original opening scene was scripted but never filmed as it involved a group of Japanese fisherman haul in a net containing the corpse of a dead Parasaurolophus. Frightened by the sight of the beast, they cut the net loose where it disappears into the water.

I get what you mean about the movie kind of starting slow, it's almost like Spielberg wasn't fully into it, like he was doing it because he was obligated too, but as the movie progresses it's like his attitude changes from 'ill do it cos I have to' to 'well we might as well make the most of it'.. and it finishes strong.. great reaction and funny commentary as always Mellow 👍💯

I'm glad you were able to find some enjoyment from this film. It's not perfect, but Jurassic Park II is still a fun monster movie for me. The dinos are cool, the action is cool, the scene with the dog is NOT COOL, and while Jeff Goldblum was a decent lead, Pete Postlethwaite as Roland Tembo, the big game hunter in charge of the InGen party, is definitely best of the human characters. My favorite scenes are when the hunters are chasing after and capturing the herd of dinos in the field, the part where the T-Rexes rip Eddie (Richard Schiff) in half (RIP Eddie :( ), how everything snowballs from bad to insanely bonkers with the T-Rexes attacking the camp + the raptors attacking the hunters in the tall grass + the raptors chasing after Jeff Goldblum and co. in that abandoned village, and the Tyrannosaurus Buck going all Godzilla in San Diego (again minus that dog scene :( ).

18:40 - 18:55 OH BOY! If that's how you feel, I'm REALLY excited to see your reaction to the end of JP Fallen Kingdom. That movie's characters make these characters seem like geniuses by comparison. As for this movie, I can't lie, but this was a cult classic for me as a kid. I saw this before the first movie so this was my introduction to not just the Jurassic Park franchise, but dinosaurs in general. Idk what it is, but the dinos in this movie still look way better than most of the dinos shots in the new trilogy (probably because the newer films don't rely as much on animatronics). This movie has so many "individually" awesome parts. After rewatching it here though, I will admit it does seem like they just thought of all these cool set pieces but didn't give much thought to how our characters get into those situations in a reasonable and not forced way. Some examples are them taking the baby just for us to have 2 Trex attack the RV, the guy walking far away from the group to take a piss just so he can get attacked, or even the boat crew getting magically eaten so the Trex can escape (which apparently there was supposed to be a scene of raptors or something else getting on the boat and eating them, but it was cut for whatever reason). But I did here they did basically push/promise a lot of money to not just Speilberg, but the writer of the first book to make a sequel so that could explain the sloppy writing. As a whole movie, it doesn't always work, but at least it still has some really memorable moments and shots. Also just love how brutal and even scary at times this movie was (especially watching this as a kid). Eddies death in particular really stuck to me as a kid (he really didn't deserve to go like that though 😔).
