This is Kacee's First Time Watching Reaction to the movie The Punisher (2004). This dark action film, based on the comic book series, follows FBI agent Frank Castle (Thomas Jane) as he transforms into the vengeful Punisher after criminals murder his family, including his wife and son. Castle is gravely injured in the attack and believed to be dead by Howard Saint (John Travolta), the crime lord who ordered the hit. Following his recovery, Castle becomes a heavily armed vigilante who will stop at nothing to exact revenge on Saint and dismantle his underworld empire.

@@SSD_Penumbra He deserves a chance to come back with a team that has both the money AND the writing to make a good Punisher film, at least. The 2004 movie had the writng (including some over-the-top comic stuff in it), but it just didn't have the budget to really get there. Granted... I don't know you could GET an R-rating on a truly great Punisher film. It's a miracle the game got just under an A-O. Literally feeding dudes to aquariums full of piranhas? Ouch. I always really liked this film. It’s a comic book adaptation so you can just gloss over some minor plot details but it’s darker in tone than a lot of contemporary hero films which suits the Punisher character. Also I think Tom Jane did an awesome job in the title role and it’s a shame he didn’t get the chance to reprise it in a sequel. Imagine if we’d got two early 2000s marvel trilogies in Blade and The Punisher!

Honestly it's my favorite version of the punisher. I don't understand why some people dislike it. Jane was able to bring a lot of dimensions to the role. They cared so much about getting it right that when the teaser dropped and fans complained the symbol looked cartoony, they went back and changed it to a washed out look that you see in the movie.

Only thing that changes is is the random act of violence. That is an element that is also supposed to fuck with his head the most. Here its clear cut. Castle vs Saint grudge. Whereas in the comics his beef us with organized crime (and crime in general) because it was just regular day in the park for him at first.
@TheLikenessOfNormal
@TheLikenessOfNormal Жыл бұрын
@@pheenmachine Nah, that was retconned that it was random. I think in Marvel comics it was due to an archdevil who revived as a member of a crime family, knew about castle, set up the death of his family to put him on that path and then had him inspired to use his own symbol of the skull, leaving all the souls that the punisher claimed as his thralls. Every version of the Punisher it starts with him thinking it was a random act of violence and finding out later that it wasn't.

I will die on this hill saying that this is the best representation of The Punisher to date--even the Netflix series couldn't hold a candle to this, IMO. The mood, the action and the portrayal by Jane, (who like the comic character only says very little after his loss) really gave it their best regardless of their budget and time limitation. Also, a lot of this was taken right out of the Garth Ennis/Steve Dillon comic (and the ice cream torture scene from another Punisher comic), so that was awesome to see. And thank you for sharing the reaction and giving this underrated gem a second life. 🙌

Marvel's Punisher character is based on the fictional character, Mack Bolan, the Executioner, a series of novels that began in 1969. He's a Vietnam veteran who winds up in a war with the Mafia. So the original veers a little more in the direction of Rambo, while the Marvel adaptation veers a little more toward Batman.

Thomas Jane gives an amazing performance in The Mist. Well worth checking out. The Punisher was a Spider-Man villain when first appeared in the mid-70s and by the 80s became an anti-hero. His original orgin was he was on a picnic with his wife and 2 young children and they witnessed a mob hit. The mob killed his family and thought killed him. The Garth Ennis Punisher story Welcome Back Frank was a major influence on this film. Frank's neighbors and the Russian are from that.
@JLPayne_78
@JLPayne_78 Жыл бұрын
He wasn't really a Spider-man "villain". He was an adversary to Spider-man because he was convinced by public perception and was fooled by The Jackal into hunting him because he was convinced he was a dangerous, super human, mutant criminal. But after fighting him a few times he saw that Spider-man was actually a hero. That's where Marvel missed a big opportunity in the last Spider-man movie. When everyone saw Peter Parker as a bad guy for killing Mysterio they could have used part of the story of Punisher's original appearance to debut Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle in the MCU the same way they debuted Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock.

Love this movie! This is actually the second film adaptation of the comic book character. The first was Dolph Lungdren in the 1989 version of the same name. Lindgren plays a New York police officer, Frank Castle, trying to bring down a mob boss corrupting his precinct but when he gets too close, they kill his wife and kid with a car bomb. Castle spends years to exact his revenge against those responsible The third adaptation was played by Ray Stevenson in Punisher War Zone in 2008. It was intended to be a sequel to the first film, but it was cancelled due to the poor box office performance of Thomas Jane's Punisher. The fourth iteration of the character was Netflix's Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal.

Fun fact about the fight scene with "The Russian"... the balisong he stabbed into Waldo's chest was supposed to be a prop knife, but he had the wrong one. Thomas Jane actually stabbed the guy, and he just kept going with the scene like nothing happened. The blood on his shirt is very real.

When I saw this movie, I thought Thomas Jane was really good as The Punisher... they announced John Bernthal as The Punisher my thought: "Oh, good call" And when I saw him play as Punisher my thoughts: "He freaking nailed it! OMG He was just a brute force and someone who you don't want to mess around with." Like The Punisher. lol Great reaction. :)

Punisher warzone starring Ray Stevenson is a Punisher movie in-line with the awesome and uber violent punisher max comic series. It's not an origin story either which I prefer especially when you're making a stand-alone movie. The Punisher is a relentless, merciless vigilante that just won't die. No superpowers here but his will is undeniable.

This older Punisher wasn't bad, but it takes away from how shocking her first impression of the character would have been if she went into Daredevil season 2 blind. I'd have saved older scrapped takes on characters for after seeing the current fully fleshed out version spoiler free.

This one is my favorite Punisher. This feels very grounded with crazy elements. I like this balance best. The Netflix version is cool but didn't really feel like the Punisher more like a bad ass dude killing people. I would like a bit more comic book vibes in the new ones.

To me Thomas Jane will always be my Punisher. Nothing against the Jon Berthal, seen his work in the role, but to me Thomas Jane just hit the mark, checked all the boxes, and brought the character to life. And his fight with the Russian, aka Kevin Nash spectacular, especially when you learn that Kevin was stabbed in the making of that scene, and never broke character.
