CORRECTION: You MAY build a structure on The Factory. CORRECTION: From the FAQ: The first two sentences on the right column of page 11 (Moving into Opponent-Controlled Territories/Controlled by Workers) should read, “If your character or mech move into a territory controlled by an opponent’s workers (and no other units), its movement ends (even if you have a mech ability that would allow it to move further). Each of the opponent’s workers on that territory immediately retreats to their faction’s home base, leaving behind any resource tokens.” This reflects the original intention of the rule, which allows a player to move a character/mech into a territory containing opponent worker(s), force those worker(s) to retreat, and then move a different unit through that territory.

I used this resource to learn the game, and it was absolutely pivotal in learning it quickly. I *really*, *really* wish you had a segment that went over the Automa (Solo revision). I know why, in most games, it's not essential, but the Automa is almost a game within a game, and there's nobody better at explaining board games than you.

Glad you'd like more content :) I suppose my hope is that the information provided for the base game is enough of a foundation that a person interested in solo play can then sort those rules out more easily.

I just bought the game cause of all the amazing reviews. Then I opened the box and was dumbstruck. The rule book is as thick as a magazine. I watched the entire video (very well done, thank you very much), and now I’m utterly overwhelmed. Kind of intimidated to play it, honestly. I’ve never seen such a complex board game in my life! Who comes up with this stuff? I think it’ll take me a month of playing it every day just to learn now. Sheesh!
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed 3 жыл бұрын
It's definitely got a lot going on Cindy, so don't feel bad about being overwhelmed - that's very understandable. There are certainly other board games that have a lower barrier to entry (which sometimes make better starting points if you're not used to this much complexity at the start), but if you'd like to stick with this, I believe you can do it! You might even find it helpful to set the game up in front of you with the video playing. Just pause as necessary, and move the pieces around as things are explained. That can often help re-enforce the ideas being shared. Either way, I wish you luck and believe in you. Do report back as you get on with it!

dagnabit Rodney... you did it. You made Scythe legitimately interesting to me. I like big fancy games as much as the next guy but I thought this was just another big fancy game. Now I actually want to make it happen. I generally try to resist Cult of the New because there's a lot of games I know of only by name and even more that I've never heard of, still I now mildly regret not backing this. I wouldn't have been able to afford it anyway but I would have wanted to.

Hi all We recently purchased scythe after a recommendation from our local comic book store. We were in awe of how many board games we never even knew existed outside the likes of Smyths toystore.We challenged them, if money was no object what game would they recommend for the most fun and even if it means we have to use our brains a bit more than catan!(They didn't seem to rate Catan that much by the looks of it). We have had it for about 2 weeks now and my wife has had the game out a couple of times to become accustomed to the way its played, We only actually managed to get a trial run last night with our neighbour's. It took longer than the time stated which is understandable, I think we started watching your video from around 8:30 and finished playing(whilst still reverting back to rules and your video several times) at about 03:40. Although we know it wasn't a properly run game and we still need to iron out a few things we thoroughly enjoyed it. I would like to ask all of you and even your other subs which other games you would rate? Thanks

Hi Andrew - Scythe is certainly a well regarded game, but I'm not sure if it's what I would have recommended to players just new to the modern board gaming hobby (unless you REALLY want to dive in head first). There are several other games of varying complexity to explore. You'll find a playlist on our channel of videos for games aimed at people newer to the hobby.

Because most people can't afford all the equipment needed, nor master all the production skills needed nor have the free time to do this and not make any money off something that's only a hobby. Unless you have someone at the gaming company paying you to do this (as it's essentially marketing) what would the incentive be to compete with these guys?

Hi Rodney. Late to the game but just bought this in time for our Monday night gaming session. I have 4 reasonably hardcore gaming mates and this game is the first contribution that I've provided (after maybe 10 years). Really appreciated your review, partly owing to depth and clarity, but mostly because you speak and explain like a normal adult would.
