I couldn't let you guys down, a bunch of you tagged me in the Hoovie FB group saying I needed to buy this car, so I did. I messaged the seller immediately, went through another painful Marketplace transaction, but we ended up getting a deal made for the cheapest (and probably the ONLY) manual Jaguar S-Type in the country. This 2003 Jag S-Type is powered by the 3.0 Duratec, with a 5 speed manual behind it, and it's rear wheel drive! A pretty incredible package for how cheap the car was!

Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make KZfaq videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?
Instagram: WatchJRGo
Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

Tip, with heavily soiled leather, use a magic eraser and cleaner but do not apply too much pressure. Keep applying pressure but avoid applying too much pressure that it takes the dye off. It'll clean the interior pretty quickly.

KZfaq detailers routinely remove the seats. Sometimes they leave the seatbelts attached and just place them aside the vehicle. Stauffer has it down to a minute or two per seat.

For the steering wheel I would try steam cleaning it before cleaning it. Might help loosen stuff up and open the pores of the leather to make cleaning easier and less abrasive

I was going to say this. You need steam on those nasty steering wheels. The leather may be cooked, but you can usually get the black goo off. I use steam along with magic erasers

When I started cleaning change out of the Frontier I bought a year ago, I ended up finding 3x as much money after taking the seats and sillplate out and peeling back the carpet, including under an airbag module under the carpet so I bet there's a few more bucks left under there (as well as under the rear cushion).

The downside to a sew on steering wheel cover is that it (to do it right) takes a lot of time and it always will look like a sew on steering wheel cover. Cleaning and re-dying the leather might work but that depends on if there's enough actual leather to work with. If you have the patience and a few hours you could find a close match material, remove the original and use if for a pattern. It may never look original but certainly better than it does now.

These days instead of using a steam cleaner or chemicals for leather cleaning, I use a sous vide or microwave to get a a few cups of water heated up (to 160-180 degrees) and moisten a clean microfiber with it (using thick gloves), and gently scrubbing the leather. Haven't seen much dirt/gunk that'll resist that, without damaging the leather.

don't know if it would be worth the "investment" - perhaps good info for the next owner but Colourlock leather stuff (cleaner and dye) for the steering wheel works wonders. One thing I've learned is that you don't have to be that "careful" around most leather in a car's interior with the odd exception of the steering wheel - most is coated with a plastic/film that protects the leather and an all purpose cleaner can usually be used with some all-in-one leather products after it's been cleaned. The Colourlock kit usually runs about $65 but if you are trying to get the wheel to look almost new/original it does a good job.

If the car is basically mechanically and structurally sound, then it's certainly worth spending some time and a bit of money cleaning it up and sorting out the trim glitches. There may be a lot of joy in owning a new car, but there can also be lot of pleasure in buying a nice old car that didn't cost much, tidying it up, sorting it out and take some pride in owning. There can be some pleasure in looking after it too. This one looks like it was a workhorse but may well have many years of life left in it. And a good thing about Jags is that the designs are fairly timeless.

Detailing? At best, this was a quick wash and vacuum with a cheap battery powered vacuum cleaner, including scratching the paint through the brush car wash. And without removing the seats, and doing a carpet shampooing, even the interior was nothing more than another quick clean. Car rental companies clean their cars better than this after a return from a messy customer. JR isn't much of a detailed person, he gets the job done, but in a bull in china shop kinda way.

It is imperative that you get the steering wheel in order, either find a second-hand rim or reupholster it in new but dark leather and leave the middle original, there will be a three-color interior in the end but it will look good and raise the price just enough to justify the effort for that sad steering rim. It's an additional 50$ job but it's worth every penny!
