Well I mentioned it once and here we are, I bought the Bensen B8 Gyrocopter from the scrap yard for $500. Yes I realize Gyrocopter and Helicopter aren't the same thing but no one has ever heard of a gyrocopter so we're calling it a helicopter like any normal person watching old James Bond films would. Everything seems to be here but the main rotor, the prop is shot, the engine is locked up, but it's still together so we should be able to make this thing run. I'll clean it up and start figuring out what needs done in the next few videos, I haven't been this excited for a project in a long time!

Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make KZfaq videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?
Instagram: WatchJRGo
Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

I bought that Bensen from the builder. He worked at Boeing in Wichita. The FAA inspector that signed off the AW for me told me, as you have observed, that it was impeccably built. It didn’t have the joystick when I owned it. Had the old overhead control with a motorcycle style twist grip throttle and bicycle type hand brake lever. I never got to fly it other than towed behind my brothers old Chevy van at the Newton airport. I was a very experienced helicopter pilot and the Bensen scared the heck out of me! I kept it at Dead Cow and the wooden blades were ruined in a flood, so I sold it. I am amazed to see that it’s still around! Very cool!

A Recaro seat would be a nice addition. A heated version of that seat (for when you are flying at high altitude) would help keep the body warm. Seat mounted airbags would be a great safety feature if a goose broadsides you in flight.

Those drones were used by the US Navy for gunnery practice with the old 5" deck guns and others, even airborne guns. My father served in VU-6 (Utility Squadron, later VC-6) and serviced those drones at VU-6's detachment at Dam Neck, VA. This was in 1960. Civilians would recover the downed drones to reuse the engines, else the Navy salvaged them for parts.

Lay the bearing in the palm of your hand and pack it by using the thumb of your other hand slowly turning the bearing as the race fills, this way you can scrape your hand kn the tub to keep the grease that's pushed through. I got this tip from Derek over at vice grip garage he is a master jedi in the the art of making old things run again without spending a fortune.

Also Subaru and Rotax engines. Also, Wheels Through Time just had a vid about a homebuilt fixed wing plane built in the 1920s powered by an old Harley V-Twin. They actually got her fired up and taxied her outside their museum. The McCulloch engine was quite powerful, but built for a target drone so longevity was not a high priority to the designers.

Memories, back in the day early 70's a guy I knew had one of these things. He took it up late in the day but he forgot flying off the ground has more (or longer daylight) so when he realized it was getting dark he thought its time to land this thing. But as he was coming in for landing he could not find where to land ... hence a very spooky event, it made us all laugh the way he told the story but he could of ended as one of the crash examples - but he did survive hence he learned his lesion land way before dark. LOL
