Thought I'm not French, I love Le Marsellaise. Not just because of it's melody, but because of it's lyrics which encourages it's citizenry to fight tyranny and oppression. I know it's not a pacifist song but pacifism in the face of tyranny, it's no virtue.

It didn't seem like the pole was based on national anthems, more like "Top 10 powerful countries in random order". I thought it was going to be based on beautifulness, proudness and tradition, and in that case Italy,Brazil, United Kingdom, France and Russia were the only ones who could have fit in. Where are countries like Spain, New Zealand, and Scandinavian countries. Spain for example has no text but beautiful melody, New Zealand has alot of tradition and a beautiful anthem, and Scandinavic countries in general have some of the most unique and traditional celebrations, at least Norway and Sweden.

My fellow South Africans🇿🇦, I believe we can say we are proud to be part of this country. Our anthem inflicts many emotions in different languages and what I love about our country is its diversity. ❤️ However, all the anthems are unique in their own way and that's what I love.

Coming from an American who opposes the Russian government, I have to say the Russian anthem is #1. Absolutely beautiful. The USSR anthem ( Russian Anthem, but has different lyrics basically) is also absolutely amazing. But my anthem is also easily top 10. I love my country’s anthem

The previous anthems are better. Try Grom Pobedy (theme of Film War and Peace), God Save the Tzar (theme of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture) and Internationale (theme of the Film Reds).

It's subjective as is all music, but it's certainly possible to subjectively judge a national anthem based on it's message, the lyrics, it's composition, and how well it fits the country it represents.

Actually, they can be, if you consider musical analysis instead of Western hegemony in popular culture. There are many national anthems that are more functional, memorable, even beautiful and beloved by their peoples, than the anthems on the list.

Es war das Jahr 1998. Ich war erst 10 Jahre alt. Ich wurde in Deutschland geboren und war in diesem Jahr in der 5. Klasse. In unserer Klasse mit 17 Schülern waren nur drei Deutsche Schüler. Alle anderen waren mit einem Migrationshintergrund. Ich war die EINZIGE TÜRKIN in meiner Klasse. Wir hatten Musikunterricht und unsere Musiklehrerin Frau Eberlein legte eine CD in das Tonbandgerät und bat uns, zu erraten, zu welchen Ländern die Hymnen gehörten, die wir hören werden. Nachdem die ersten Hymnen angehört und erraten wurden, begann plötzlich die türkische Nationalhymne zu spielen. Als ich die ersten Töne der Hymne hörte, bekam ich Gänsehaut und meine Augen füllten sich mit Tränen. Während die Nationalhymne weiter auf dem Band lief, machten meine Klassenkameraden Vermutungen, aber niemand kam auf die Idee, dass eine so schöne Hymne zur Türkei gehören könnte. Unsere Lehrerin Frau Eberlein bemerkte, dass ich emotional wurde. Sie schaute mir in die Augen und wartete darauf, dass ich meine Hand hob und sagte, dass die Hymne „Türkische Nationalhymne“ sei. Aber ich konnte nicht sprechen, weil ich vor lauter Emotionen einen Kloß im Hals hatte. Türkische Hymne war zu Ende und Frau Eberlein fragte mich vor der ganzen Klasse: „Pınar, zu welchem Land gehört diese Hymne?“ Ich sagte mit ganzem Stolz: „Es gehört der TÜRKEI!“ Die Klasse war sehr überrascht, alle sahen mich erstaunt an. Ich begann Stimmen im Klassenzimmer zu hören, die sagten: „Oh, wirklich? Echt jetzt?“ Während einer kurzen Schweige im Klassenzimmer, drehte sich mein russischer Nebensizter Viktor zu mir und sagte: „Was für eine schöne Hymne habt ihr?!.“ Ich verließ den Unterricht an diesem Tag voller Stolz. Diese schöne und stolze Erinnerung habe ich mein ganzes Leben lang nie vergessen und werde es nie vergessen.

Good to see the Swedish national anthem get some time in the spot light. Fun fact about our national anthem is that its one of the few in the world which is not singing about the own country, we actually sing: "Jag vill leva, jag vill dö i Norden", which translates to "I want to live, I want to die in The Nordics" and it is from the time when Sweden wanted The Nordics to be a own country.

Une Marseillaise se chante avec fierté et les joueurs donnent l’impression de montrer le contraire. Excuse-moi mais chanter à voix basse sans entrain, n’est pour moi, pas la définition de digne représentant. Néanmoins ils ont su faire rayonner la France dans le foot depuis 8 ans, et c’est plus que respectable, et sont dans ce cas là de dignes représentants

@@jeffthevomitguy1178 I french in the lyric when it sais "un sang impure abreuve nos sillions" it's mean in english "that an impure blood waters our furrows" and a lot of people in french (especially parent dosn't want the childrens learn this anthem in school. for me "la marseillaise" has a lot of history and meaning that wy I love my country

Mithun Kumar of course you can rank anthems, objectively : they just are songs with a story. You can rank songs, you can rank stories (=> movies), so you can rank anthems, if it's just based on the melodies and the story behind. As a french, I would have put US #1 and Russian #2 for the melodies, and put south africa #1 for the story (and maybe others, I don't know all of the anthems). Not every body is a pathetic patriot..
