I remember I was only 12 years old when the Beijing Olympics happened in 2008. Back then I was watching my little TV and I was absolutely blown away by how they managed to deliver such a powerful, aesthetically pleasing opening ceremony at that time.

London's Pandemonium segment still leaves me in awe. I absolutely love Underwolds composition and when all that energy from thousands of drums and shouts wind down to the simple whistled tune to honour the fallen from the World Wars, I still get teary-eyed. @@gymboreeplaymusicwarwickan5216 More interesting culture... Highly doubt that. When a ceremony showcases three thousand years of a fantastic and unique culture of the oldest nation in the world is compared with a ceremony that sprinkled a few pop culture references... it's not hard to see which one's more cultured. If you can't connect with a culture completely alien to you, that's fine. But think twice before completely brushing them off. Also, about your point about UK being more impactful on the world... How so? In the current world, China has a much bigger economy, political presence, and influence than the tiny British isles. Or, if you're talking about the British empire, where they enslaved, killed, raped, and tortured foreign peoples during colonization, is that a sort influence you should be proud of? Absolutely ridiculous.

You can put this year’s Olympics opening ceremony as the best because of how Japan declared the whole world that video game is real music!! God bless Japan!!!

You missed that Vancouver had a bum leg on their indoor cauldron, but it was hilariously “fixed” in the closing ceremony.

It’s hard to top Beijing. But can we also mention that Tokyo 64, being the first games in a country that didn’t use the Latin alphabet, was the first time the pictograms were used for the different sports as well?

The costumes featured in Barcelona 1992, were designed by famous Trinbagonian mas designer Peter Minshall, those giant 'pupets' are a regular feature in Trinidad and Tobago's carnivals. He also invented what he called tall boys for the ceremony in Atlanta '96, it's now called inflatable men.

I thought the London games would be at the very top of the list. What other country would feature James Bond accompanying the Queen for a helicopter ride, and then skydiving with her into the stadium? It was absolutely unexpected and delightfully cheeky.

I don’t have the patience to watch the opening ceremonies but I made an exception for my home games in 2012. I was immensely proud of what they pulled of on a relatively low budget compared to other nations in recent years, but knowing first hand accounts of the efforts with volunteers behind the scenes and then delivering as planned, makes me love watching a time when living in London it was so great for the atmosphere of the city to be so friendly against the stereotype that is often unfairly portrayed.

Ya'll forgot to mention that in Salt Lake 2002, the cauldron was lit by our USA Hockey team from Lake Placid aka Miracle on Ice in 1980. But yeah this Opening Ceremony is one of my favs, but I am bias since I am American too. But my fav is the Beijing 2008 since it's the only one to leave me mind numb. It was like China said, "Okay we're just going to talk about our whole history" lol. I have no idea how they're going to outdo themselves months from now when the Winter Olympics hits there.

still remember watching the 2012 olympics and find it cool it's recent one is ending on street fighter 2: the animated movies 27th anniversary(and after bleach's 20th & metroid's 35th anniversaries.:3). with the awesome tokyo opening respecting video games impact and several series characters(goku, luffy, astro boy, shin chan, naruto, jibanyan & sailor moon/pretty cure.:3) being representatives be awesome if for the closing ceremonies we got animations of mario/sonic and the other characters(the v.i.p's and the songs characters.) interacting & teaming up with each other to close it out.
