Love this video. Someone finally made a video of the little issues such and the minute hand not lining perfectly on the Rolex. I thought I was the only OCD collector in this world.

For real! That minute hand jumps around like crazy when you pop in the crown! One of my only complaints of Rolexes!

austin, i read that on the older model exp 2 that the center links are hollow whereas on the newer model exp 2 they are solid. if this is true, why the heck would rolex of all watchmakers put hollow links on a bracelet? so, overtime the bracelet will stretch some (sort of like the SKX bracelet does). maybe that is why the clinkiness sound?
@ScottAReid6 жыл бұрын
never mind this question, you just answered it in your Mako video. i did not realize the older exp 2 also had hollow end links AND center links. i cant believe this for a rolex. wow. what is next, quartz or solar? ((
@watchsymposium6 жыл бұрын
A lot of people think it took Rolex way too long to get their bracelets up to par. I can't say that hollow end links are bad practically (I misspoke and said in theory in the vid) speaking. But they were slow to come around to them apparently.

you are making me jealous. i really want an explorer 2, 40mm. since i have never tried one on, i is slowing me down. how does it wear? i have a 7 1/4 wrist. def want one that has recently been serviced. any idea what they charge on avg to clean and oil this watch? $800 at least?
@watchsymposium6 жыл бұрын
It's very comfortable! I've never actually compared my Rolexes in terms of comfort level...but they are all comfortable. I will say that the Sub bracelet's wet-suit extension makes the clasp a little thicker, which isn't favorable. But really, it doesn't matter - it's not like a notice it when I wear it, just when I compare it to the Ex.2 or GMT. The RSC service in Japan was about 750 USD. When I had the Sub serviced I had the bezel insert and clasp replaced and that upped it to about a grand. I had the Crystal replaced on the Ex.2, and that added 150 USD if I remember quickly. At the RSC they said I looked like I was having too much fun looking through their in-store magazines, and charged me 45 USD. :) Not cheap, but cheaper than AP I hear.
@ScottAReid6 жыл бұрын
this is why i am trying to find EXP 2 that has been serviced recently, or add at least $800 to the price. ough. 40mm version. thanks again for the information. 5k seems about the going rate for a nice one. i want really nice, mint.

I used to make the vids on a DSLR, upload them to a computer, edit them, render them, and then upload them. It took forever! These days, I shoot on an iPhone, and edit it in camera (in phone, rather), and even upload it straight from the phone. So it's much easier and much more enjoyable...it actually feels like a hobby now. Anyway, the old intro is stuck on the computer. I miss it too though. Hmmmm...maybe I can upload it to my phone. ..

I have a question I have a 2002 Explorer 2 16570. When you go to set your hour hand independently, can you feel your entire movement as the hour hand is moving? Or is that just mine?
@watchsymposium5 жыл бұрын
"can you feel your entire movement" I'm not sure what you mean by that. Can you explain what you mean?
@diegoarizpe55445 жыл бұрын
@@watchsymposium sure, so if you're adjusting the hour hand independently, and you move it slowly not fast like you are in the video, can you feel your movement rotating and pausing when you pause? Basically just a whole lot of movement within the case ?
@watchsymposium5 жыл бұрын
When I adjust the local hour hand, it feels like it's detached from everything. As you move it, the 24 hour hand wiggles, but the local hour hand feels like it's not influencing the movement at all. Of course, it changes the date when you pass 12, so it's not totally detached. But, in short, I wouldn't describe the feeling as the movement rotating, or a lot of movement in the case. If you have an AD near you, I'm sure they would look at your watch and tell you what they think. It might need a service...I suppose it could feel like you describe if the oils have dried somewhat, and the local hour hand isn't going around smoothly. Hope that helps.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Ex II, but I am amazed that it doesn't have quick-set date. My Seiko 5 has that.
@watchsymposium6 жыл бұрын
It is surprisingly clunky in that respect. Especially if you're setting it in the middle of the month. If you've been wearing it in, say, a month with 30 days, and you need to advance to the the 1st, it's not too much of a hassle. But not quite quick-set quick.
@gmshadowtraders6 жыл бұрын
Austin Daniels It's because of the GMT function. Few if any watches can have quickset and GMT. It's the reason I had to sell my beautiful 1675 GMT. I fucked up my fingers so much changing the date it ain't funny
@my5digithobby9675 жыл бұрын
The 3185 and 3186 movements used in this gen of exp 2 has the jump hour function which controls the date, because the date reflects the local time of the hour hand (and thus gives A.M. and P.M.) whereas the 24 hour hand is set to GMT time typically (these movements were actually made for GMT Master 2s). The quick set hour is therefore prioritized above a quick set date. It is a fantastic movement that also allows you to set the date backwards and forwards with the jumping hour. It also has a full balance bridge, it's a chronometer, has a hand made breguet overcoil, white gold (yes under the black), and its a beautifully decorated and long lasting movement like all modern Rolexes. The movement generation just before this did have a quick set date, but not the jumping hour hand feature. Don't get me wrong, I love seiko 5s and they are just as good as rolex if you factor in price, but you don't compare features between them, it's kind of like saying "you can't just get into your mercedes and immediately hit the gas pedal to go?? you can in my golf cart!" (extreme example as a joke)

Save the fuss of putting in time your watches , get a Versa double winding device ( chinese 60 bucks ) . By the way my G series 3186 ( black dial) has the same "thing" with the crown not engaging ( not always) , even after coming from RSC . Anyway I LOVE. this watch , never ever going to sell it :-)

Wow.... You go to extremes. I see. Even in Japphaaanhh, tokyo. Well, I understand. I was watching you wind the watch and was thinking ''ohh. It's not gonna go! its not going! its broken!'' but then it started finally XD. I will not bury and bank my watches... I wear them and sometimes have in my home, hidden away. In a safe country and area, in my private home. Maybe for a 15k€+ watch I'll consider that.

Someone with a metal detector is going to have a great day soon... You should be able to hide valuables in your apartment, or failing that, store them in a bank vault. Something else to think about, would your dependents know where to find your watch if something happened to you? They may want the watch, for sentimental or financial reasons.
