The most logical answer is that it's simply an updated version of the Bat armor he wore when he fought Firefly, which will eventually be the inspiration for the Beyond suit in the future.

I really liked how you concentrated more on how it could've been a mistake instead of soming up with a super crazy hour long fan theory about the suit being Supreme Leader Snoke or something stupid like that.

Loved the fact Sean Murphy paid homage to this suit. In Beyond the White Knight Bruce ends up using this suit so he could go up against the superior, more high tech beyond suit, without running the risk of being caught by sensors or any futuristic gizmo.

I know I'm 2 years late in this response, but hi! I'm one of the co-writers of the Batman Immortal fan-film and I appreciate the shout-out! When we wrote the yellow Batsuit into our film, we figured it was almost certainly a re-used background with a slight edit, but decided to make it "canon". The first six months of our writing process involved combing through the entire DCAU, making sure that nothing we wrote directly contradicted canon, and happened across the yellow Beyond suit and figured "why the hell not". Originally we were going to use the cape one, but decided on the yellow one primarily because of Starcrossed. Anyways, great video!

Simple in universe explanation is that it's a non-high tech version of the beyond suit that maybe allows Batman to move around easier or less susceptible to cuts.

That Batsuit Insignia is Yellow like Batgirl's. Bruce developed/started developing the suit after Barbara developed PTSD or something, to make her more powerful in the field. But she didn't respond to it or the technology was faulty or risky like the later bat armor. Bruce kept it around because it was an ongoing project/backup plan and could stretch and conform to any body type and later informed or became the Beyond suit. The later second beyond suit is just a tech less fabric copy to scratch the OCD of Bruce having an incomplete stand after 20 years. Or someone made a mistake. But that's impossible because they're Gods.

Yes, they just reused art. It was a common thing back in those days. Star Trek was notorious for re-using shoots for space scenes because they lacked the budget. And in particular the Galaxy model was a PITA to work with. During remaster (not just a high resolution release) they fixed this stuff where possible. Apparently they did not go that extra mile for Justice League.

This was a good episode, showcasing other fan-projects and explaining issues we didn't even realize were there. I'd like to see more videos like this, if they explore similar subject matters.

If we assume that it wasn't a mistake but go for Bruce Timm's "anything on screen is canon": Batman has his standard batsuit, later makes a few other variations of his suit and a fireproof bat armor as seen in TNBA, later starts to develop a stealth suit (with a yellow bat symbol) with the technology of the invisible man from "See no Evil" by making the suit resistable to the radiation of the invisibility technology (this is also why the suit is fireproof and radiation resistant as seen in fights with Blight in the future). He may have developed and tested this stealth suit during JL time and this is why we see it in "Starcrossed". Later when he starts to get weaker he makes a mechanical arm with servos as seen in the flashback in the first issue of the Beyond comics, then makes the whole big exosuit out of "this stuff", then realizes it's too bulky and puts "too much strain on his heart" around the time of the near apocalypse of '09 when he almost died probably and decided to get back to the stealth prototype (with a yellow bat symbol on it) and improve it with the newer advanced servos of doctor Corso who we see in "April moon". He used this prototype for a while and in the meantime developed an improved version of it (that he painted with a red bat symbol on it), added more functions to it like built in cables, batarangs, disc shooters and other stuff and put the old, weaker yellow prototype suit away somewhere. After all of this Terry comes along in BB and uses the red suit but it gets stolen in "Lost soul". At the time Bruce tries to discourage Terry from going after it by mentioning some of his old costumes with bullet holes in them but Terry goes anyway. After this accident Bruce decided that they need a second suit as a backup, pulls the yellow one out of the closet, repaints it red, upgrades it to be more like the improved red suit and they hang it on the Batcave display to have a spare if something like this happens again. 6:28 If he can make one, he can make a second. This is why we see a second red suit in the cave in many episodes ONLY after "Lost soul" - in ROTJ when Terry leaves the cave, in "The Call" pt.I when they get the kryptonite, the "History Lesson" short by Darwyn Cooke and other stuff. LONGEST COMMENT I ever wrote. Will it canon? You tell me. And while we're at it make a follow-up video to this one. It's a very successful one.

6:30 also in Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker, when Terry throws his backpack with his Batsuit in it on the ground and runs up the Bat-stairs (see what i did there) to leave the Batcave after Bruce tells him he doesn't want him to be Batman anymore, as Terry is running up the Bat-stairs, you can see the Batman Byond suit in the display case while also being in Terry's backpack on the floor, I noticed this when I recently watched Return Of The Joker on HBO Max, i laughed really hard when I saw it and i thought of this video too.

I think the yellow Batsuit was made prior to the Batman Beyond suit and was just a design change from the original Batsuit and it became the Batman Beyond suit years later after Bruce enhanced the technology to aid him in crime fighting

Here’s just a thought. I think there would’ve been a problem if they just re-colored the red parts of the suit is gray. Then it would resemble that fire proof bat suit from the new Batman adventures that had the gray logo and the old covering mask.

Came looking for this again after four years, that batsuit, we might finally have an answer in the Batman Beyond the White Knight issue I think 2 or 3, where Bats goes to get the new batsuit from Harleys basement, its a futuristic batsuit with a yellow symbol just like this one

The yellow suit could be a really early version of the beyond suit. I could see a mix of overheating or trouble charging being the reason it was abonded.

I love how Years later, the White Knight Universe of Batman canon-ized the Yellow Batsuit. There, when he was still a young man before going to prison (With time skip shorter, but still close to End of JLU to Batman Beyond), he had invented Several prototypes of the Beyond Suit, and busts out the Yellow Bat on Chest Batsuit (which he stored in a safe house under Harleen's House.)

Head canon: the suit is a non-powered prototype design that was basically just a regular batsuit, maybe a testbed for some concepts like a retractable cape. When Batman create the first mechanical suit the technology was advanced enough to make it look like the yellow batsuit, but once the tech could be miniaturized he reused the old stylistic design to create the Beyond suit.

In the new Batman Beyond the white knight #2 Bruce has a batsuit with the yellow emblem that seems like it almost has to a nod to this.

Funny, because I remember in the Batman Beyond episode: Meltdown, when Terry was somewhat stuck in a block of ice, the bat on the suit was blue. And then in the very last episode: unmasked, the bat on the suit was yellow when he was walking in the fire to save the kid. But apart from that, the bat was red. Although, I still found it to be cool and I am a huge Batman Beyond fan. I don't know if the examples I mentioned above were mistakes, or maybe the creators thought that it would be cool to add some sort of special effect when Terry was in a different kind of environment. But if that's the case, why didn't they make the bat blue when Terry was in the fortress of solitude (episode: the call)? P.s. I enjoyed the video and the humor

In the first few episodes where Terry McGinnis steals the the suit and later wears it, on Batman Beyond, there's still another Red Emblem Batman Beyond suit. Is like after Terry stole the suit, Bruce saw the empty case and placed another one, without the cape, on the case.. again

My take is Bruce makes the yellow beyond suit, then needs something stronger so he makes the bulker exo-suit. After it puts a strain on his heart so Bruce back tracks to the yellow suit and tweaks it. First he makes it red adds a cape and later swaps the cape out for the smaller wings.

An idea: - Bruce is spitballing some new batsuit designs. He digs the yellow oval of the BTAS suit. He also likes the bigger bat on the NBA/JL suit. - "Heck yes," he thinks, "I'll combine these looks and put a giant yellow bat on covering the chest, and make the rest of the suit black." - He creates a mockup to see how it looks and how effective it is for striking fear etc etc. It's not a real suit in the sense that there's no armouring or tech, it's just an aesthetic test. - Obviously you want to see the suit "in action," so you put it on a mannequin. And hey, there's an extra mannequin in the suit gallery. Bruce sets it up, and stores it with the others. Maybe he's not totally sold on it, so he just leaves it there while he mulls it over. - It appears in the background of Star-crossed. It's never actually used. He probably takes it back down at some point. - At some point he comes back to the design, realizing what wasn't quite right about it. "You know what would look baller? If I used RED instead of yellow!" He switches out the colours. Badass. - He props this remade red suit (still not a "real" suit) back up in the gallery, and makes the Batman Beyond suit (the real one) based on that design. Again, this fabric-only test is seen in the background of Batman Beyond. Terry won't use it when the real suit fails, because it's basically like going into battle wearing a morph suit.

My theory is Amanda Waller made the yellow batsuit for project Batman Beyond in the event Bruce could not continue on as Batman but since Bruce kept up the mantle up for so long she retired the idea and gave it to Bruce. Bruce kept it as a blueprint for future alterations and upgrades.

I always think of those as design prototypes for what eventually became the Beyond suit. Like standard armored Batsuits with the more modern aesthetic but without all the nifty nano-gizmo-ultra-jetboot-invisibility-cloaking-future tech. Like he had one or two suits in that style because it was a new look he'd settled on after the JL/JLU suit and started wearing it in the later years before he got older/weaker and started having to implement robotics and hydraulic exoskeletons to still be able to kick butt and perform Batcrobatics etc. Then, by the time technology caught up to the point where he could accomplish what he needed in the style/design he liked/originally wore, he'd already had the big brute "tank" suit for a while and could retire it (especially since it was becoming a health risk given his progressive heart condition) and move on to a more modern, more high-tech design based on his previous preferred model, just updated with red instead of yellow (because red is a scarier color maybe, or just to change things up after all those years of integrating yellow into the suit, or maybe the undersides of those cool flip out wings only come in red in the future and he wanted the rest to match :P).

It's OBVIOUSLY a stylized version of the 1989 Michael Keaton batsuit.

2:12 as an artist I can answer this. I promise you it's totally normal to go through NUMEROUS design and rough drafts only to sometimes go right back to your original design with minor changes. It's more common than people outside the art world believe 😅
