So this watch has like a $20 quartz movement and they want how much??? To much money and way too big for me. I have a Luminox Recon with the same casing material, but this new one is just ridiculous. Also, I can tell you that my case has plenty of scraps, scratches, and scuffs. I find Sinn watches that are coated to be among the best to prevent these issues. Second are Citizen grade 5 titanium coated watches. Best wishes.

Now a BOLEX stainless steel watch using a dinosaur movement costs on average £5000 and if the spring pin fails and it falls down a steep slope and breaks, then that's another 3 or four of these LUMINOX's to fix it... now my point is that watches are all pretty over priced unless it's a CASIO EdiFice, these seem to be the best to value... but with regards to the LUMINOX I have, it's a side that I have only just lived the very first time for real. I've seen them, but never looked further, and it was the plastic and the price that made me steer pass, so was very lucky to have this opportunity with hands on. I've not really watched and read reviews, but it seems there's a divide like Samsung and Apple, and this isn't my game... $20 movement doesn't mean anything but it's a good price, and I've got Miyota movements at $1.20 that include a battery that are very accurate and reliable. I've had ETA quartz movements that are plastic and when they fail, they can't be serviced, so why is the RONDA movement so bad, you can strip it down and buy the parts, and if it failed, then buying a $20 movement is my kind of direction. I've been racing RC cars for a while, and I can tell you, the carbon fibre composite chassis and swing arms take the beating, they get scratched, but they have always been solid, and when I use metal, these just bend or snap. I have many types of watches, and I enjoy them all in their own way, and which watch is the best is easy, the sun and stars... but when it's cloudy they're for nothing, so you can't rely upon one thing. I know there's materials that endure different toughness, but it's nice having different ones in a collection, now I've not lived the grade 5 Citizen, and it sounds interesting, and SINN are lovely German watches, and I do have an eye on a chrono, but at £4000+ this isn't needed, but enjoy others who do :) At the moment I'm still on the LUMINOX, and so far i'm impressed... now I feel this isn't over, I need more time with it, but would be interested to how much if Bear Grylls wasn't on it? Looking at the details and how the print is pressed on the dial and chapter ring is on at a perfect level, and under more magnification there's no bleeding of print, so this obversely goes towards the costs. Is it of value, well personally I can't answer that this early, but at this moment I would be prepared to by one. I can only value something if it works, and I'm forgetting the press and so called watch gurus that moan about anything that's fluff, I'm about true value, so if this watch is still working and holding together after ten years, then it's doing a fine job, not sure if some micro brands would succeed, or suc at the same price point? In most cases watches are expensive especially with SWISS MADE on the dial, this isn't a secret, and I know for many they would chose a ROLEX over a SINN... unless you want that stress to mother people, you're often best to let everyone enjoy what they see is good for them, unless it's really really bad and a rip off scam. Anyway, will look more into Citizen as I really like the brand, cheers and thanks again for your feedback :)

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman I wouldn't consider the new Rolex movements to be dinosaur movements lol as they will outlast us both. I think the problem with Rolex and this Luminox is that you are also paying for the marketing/hype and not just the watch. I personally don't consider Luminox to be good value. I bought my Luminox Recon new for less than $200 when the next cheapest I could find was $750. It also has a rather cheap Ronda GMT movement. Does it mean it doesn't work? No, it works but why is the rest of the watch so much more money? Where is that money actually going? Where is the added technology to justify such a price? Honestly, a Timex 921 Chronograph movement is more advanced than the movement in this watch. So, where is the value? What is it you are actually paying the money for? Is it the carbon fiber? The Tritium? The watch hands? The watch case? I would guess most of the money goes to cover the cost of using the Bear Grylls name. Does this mean it isn't a good watch? No, it just means that a percentage of the money never went into the quality of the watch. So it it good value for the money? That depends on the individual's priorities. Do they want a watch where a large percentage of money goes into the watch, or do they want a watch that is marketed and well-known? I think if the watch brings enjoyment than that is important. I stopped buying watches with Ronda chronograph movements as I got tired of replacing them (every few years in some cases). The last one I replaced was a ~$50 17-jewel 12hr chronograph. I am beginning to think that they all fail with use in a few years time as I have an ETA chronograph that also crapped out on me. I will say that none of my Miyota or Seiko chronos have failed yet. As we all know, Swiss Made doesn't carry much weight anymore. It used to actually mean something, but now is so deluded in most cases that I just ignore it. T25 means that the tubes contain 25 milliCuries of radioactivity. Some people think this means it indicates the years it will glow. This is not the case. Is the tritium where the cost of this watch is spent? No, I don't think so. There are tritium watches for ~$100 that contain more tritium. So again, I don't personally see the value. To be clear, I am not knocking the watch. Any watch that gets people into the hobby or enjoy I am all for; however, I don't think this is particular watch is good value for the money considering what you get. I always enjoy your reviews, please keep them coming!

@@patricko9170 I have to pin your comment, that was brilliant and you really nailed it perfectly. I know I may sound like a buffoon, but it's the balance of value, and if you can adjust for it then it hurts nobody, fact is, watches are luxury items, and anything luxury will have a cost. I'm currently looking more into MWC Military Watch Company as their new range just look insane especially with price... I'm hoping to get some more contact with them as I'd like to review more than my one just to get an idea... I'm a quartz guy the most, as i've had two mechanicals fail me when I needed them the most, and so far quartz hasn't let me down. Fantastic reply and appreciate the time it took to right, but I feel this is more nature for you. It's nice to have a discussion on this level being realistic about it, I will never give up being me and doing what I enjoy, and making these videos is also my passion... just need a few helicopters and twenty more camera's and I could produce something a little tighter LML :-P Thanks again and it's pinned btw :))

@@patricko9170 You're welcome :) The first watch was a SEIKO Sports 5 using the 4R movement, and I was doing nothing really interesting apart from playing badminton and it just stopped (never got it fixed and still sits in my parts area for a project) The second watch was out in the Lake District, and that morning I was deciding between my new ProTrek PRG2500 or Hamilton Khaki 42mm. Later that day back at camp, I decided to wash my hands using the water tank filling area, and decided that I would take the watch off as it was on leather and place it on the tap. Well this wasn't placed correctly and it dropped down upon the grill, and the rotor weight came apart from the centre part. I did have a video on this which was on my original channel... but I fixed it myself, but had to wait till back home, and it basically just snaps back on, but luckily no other signs of damage. I did like that watch, and maybe get another one day... mine had a very unusual purple/blueish dial, sold it to a friend for £100 as he bugged me for ages. I think he flipped it for a used Citizen Diver worth about £40 tops, but hey, his choice. I choose my watches wisely for what I have planned for the day, and if it's going to be really aggressive, then G-Shocks are my choice, but sometimes these get too clumsy and it's nice to have something more practical in size... I found TIMEX have some good offerings, but with regards to analog only, I don't have anything that's also super tough, so with this LUMINOX it could be something. I like the Fenix 6 Pro I have, but it feels that it could get damaged quicker over my G-Shocks because it has no bumpering... the Garmin Instinct is great, and now it's used by Mrs Rangeman and she doesn't even clean it. Its been on most of our times away and still holds up, yeah, that's a really good valued watch without doubt. Out of all my watches, I would have to say my little G-Shock G-9300 Mudman is the one for ultimate toughness... it's also good with those slightly stiffer buttons, as getting your hand into tight places doesn't accidentally mode switch. It also has a rounder case/bezel design so feels compact and hugging. A buddy of mine mentioned it's his go to G-Shock, and to be honest wasn't my design at first, looks too similar to my GW-9400 Rangeman, but later decided the only way is to try. This is why I had to test this LUMINOX, as my curiosity has so many questions, and for viewers also... it's all too easy to shout out it's poop, but without that hands on, you really are in the dark about it. Makes good conversation hey. I feel the perfect watch will never happen, as to finding your grail watch, these things change with moods or simply with a bad experience, but if you were given a watch from a dying friend and it was the brand you least liked, you would still treasure its soul hey, and sometimes when you have that bond to a watch, you can't let go... I feel this with the LUMINOX, it's like i'm connected and without it am naked??? Have a great start to the week and i'm sure we'll chat another time :)

***Please watch the whole video or from 20:41 as I feel some of you aren't understanding my experience with regards to why this watch is expensive. You know you can buy a hair trimmer and cut your own hair, you could walk instead of buying fuel but when it comes down to having something that lasts, then is there a price? I mean, BOLEX watches are in their thousands, so have you bought the marketing side, as if it wasn't pushed in your face would you still justify the thousands? You see, value on anything can be ripped apart, and if you think this LUMINOX is expensive, then why not Hamilton as that's only steel and glass. Now I don't want a war, and opinions are all very welcome, but really, if you want to save money and want true value, then an CASIO EdiFice is that watch, if you want something different then maybe this, but remember that those Swiss mountain views comes with a price. I feel I need to borrow this watch further, as from stories I've read, I feel a good few of these are from those who've bought fake versions, as for my honesty, I've really taken to it... lets face it, the GPR-B1000 Rangeman is expensive and doesn't even have StarBucks in the memory LML :-P

Well, it all depends on the watch, this just made me get out there and bash it about without care... I use it quite often as I've still got it on loan... needs more testing and another followup video to explain more... I still feel a few see it as a plastic watch and then steer away, and I was guilty myself, but the more I spend with it, the more attached I am with it, as for me it's the design and comfort that makes it work, plus it's brutally tough. Absolutely love your videos. I looked at this watch for a brief second and, I'll try not to be unkind, I thought it way overpriced garbage. I was blown away that it only had a mineral crystal for the asking price. I also can not understand battery power in a watch at this asking price. Casio has set the bar very high for my expectations so I may be biased.YMMV.
@WatchUP69MrRangeman
@WatchUP69MrRangeman 3 жыл бұрын
Buddy, being insulting to anyone on the channel is a big no no, but having your own thoughts and opinions are very welcome and isn't unkind, and points you've mentioned seems to be on a few minds. I wasn't looking at this brand for myself, and after seeing Watch Geeks review it left me with no hunger. So i'm very grateful and lucky to have it sent to me for a review and most importantly hands on. I've not seen one in person so it was quite a journey, but I couldn't stop in my lightbox, it wasn't right or honest, so taking it outdoors and using it for a few days was needed, and tests was number one for me. Is another watch better??? well at the moment i'm getting comments saying "I will wait for the next GPS Rangeman as it might be better" now, what makes it better, materials, build, accuracy and reliability, as if it can't do these fantastic four then it's a fail regardless, and even a £5000 watch can fail and fall apart. A GRAHAM watch, is this really worth it, yet people buy them, so it's a choice they have to decide upon even if many see it as over priced. I'm still trying to understand why the hate, I can understand that it's expensive with two factors with SWISS MADE and Bear Grylls name on it, but who is ROLEX that costs thousands, and that's just stainless steel and a dated movement inside made of stamped steel that can rust! At the moment I'm still wearing it, I can't seem to remove it off my wrist, and I need more time with it, I feel these few days isn't enough, and now it's personal towards me, as when something feels good, then you go for it. CASIO EdiFice to me are the best value watches, G-Shocks are the tough dudes but can be expensive and SEIKO's are just getting more limited and fancy with ProSpex that's just exploiting the public in my opinion. I'm not about trashing any watch, as to someone else it could be a gift from their passed away father who loved that watch, so there's always a bigger picture, and saying it's garbage, means it needs to stink, and for me it's an odd one, but turning away from what others say and going by what I'm living isn't the same, and I feel maybe the fakes have ruined it for a few. I really enjoyed making this video, and I've put a lot of thought and time in it as I feel the reviews out there aren't showing the full package... I feel a part two is needed??? Thanks for your support and feedback and your honesty, we need this to help us all :)

Ah, saw WatchGeek's review on it and he wasn't impressed with how it was priced, how the hands didn't even hit the markers and how the bezel was fiddly (On the Master Version with the orange strap, it moves). Seriously, what were they even thinking with the pricing?
@WatchUP69MrRangeman
@WatchUP69MrRangeman 3 жыл бұрын
That sounds like SEIKO with all their alignments of chapter rings and bracelet QA issues :-P Pricing is expensive, I can't swipe that to the side, and that's why I had to test this watch to really understand it... I get it, but that's the thing with watches, some are no argument to value like a CASIO EdiFice... but this seems to be a big topic with pricing, and yet those who buy a steel BOLEX with a dinosaur movement at £6000+ aren't even twitching when taking their credit card out, yet with a plastic watch that's 8.33% of the cost can't really make a mash potato out of it... I mean, is the GPR-B1000 worth £699, well it is if that person needs it. If you're looking at it as being plastic carbon instead of steel, then maybe look at super cars, as they're costing hundreds of thousands and are made of lightweight carbon plastic materials too... I know the engine is a RONDA that sounds like a HONDA, but maybe that's why, as HONDA's are reliable, plus if it goes wrong £35.99 for a new movement isn't going to ruin your day. I feel the fakes have been reviewed and bought and therefor judging it for the wrong reasons. If I didn't have this sent to me, i would pass, as it does look plastic, but I have to be honest, yes it's expensive, but it also has presence on my wrist today, I can't seem to remove it, so unless you've tried it for a few days you can't decide just by a picture or video... so I've really tried to show all the aspects of the watch, and why fibre composite was used, and then to discover that the composite is actually a better material... have a read on how it's used in industry, pretty amazing. A few are picking up on the mineral crystal instead of sapphire, I really can't believe this war is still at play and are not looking at the pros and cons on both sides, for me mineral is better for the harsher environments, sapphire can still get scratched on a brick wall, and believe me, I've done it. I guess the SWISS MADE has pushed the price and with Bear Grylls this has another following, but I'm looking at it as a package and will it survive on its own merit??? I feel I need to use this watch longer, and then give my thoughts after a year and really show how it works. At the moment I'm just using it without being a pussy, and today I'm working around the home and in my garage, and it's taken some knocks, so far it's still showing the correct time. I'm here to show the details, and if it ain't for you, then i've done a good enough job to show the full back and front cover. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the striking case back part at the end?? I thought that was genius LML :-P

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman true that. Carbon Fibre is making its way into the watch industry and even G-Shock is commercialising it. The barrel between mineral and sapphire is everlasting with people lauding the GWG-1000 Mudmaster for its sapphire crystal and dissing on the GG-B100 for having a mineral crystal. Your observation about Bolex is very true. These so called "collectors" don't even blink and they have the cash out for a "vintage" Bolex yet they bemoan about a G-Shock MR-G being expensive. Your piece is more better made than the one Watch Geek got which had QC issues and is the more expensive out of the bunch. But still, it being tough doesn't justify the cost for me. If it was priced at the £ 350-400 mark, it would've been reasonable.

@@traviswalker8933 I guess when it comes down to a real life survival, is a watch really needed, personally it would be as good as I need it to tell my bearing, as time is now something you don't need to count upon. Just reading about the company, I wonder where they will go? It also seems there's a hidden world with regards to them, but it's not Bear Grylls that's influenced me, it's about me and the watch now, and cost has past that point, my focus is about how endurable it is. The movement inside is a good choice, and having the RONDA in my Victorinox gives me confidence, also it's cheap to replace which is good to know, also serviceable unlike ETA who are very naughty. @@WatchUP69MrRangeman thanks mate. I'm not like a typical watch guy who just buys into what brands are saying. I go into details, go nitpicky and then choose a watch. WatchGeek did go into their history and they were under new management in the mid-2000s. The Carbonox is an old concept which they have improved upon over the years. So whether they have made a watch which can match a G-Shock in terms of toughness remains to be seen in long term use. One thing that they can't beat a G-Shock in is the price which needs to be reasonable.

@WatchUP69MrRangeman
@WatchUP69MrRangeman 3 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, cheers for the feedback and support, as you know opinions are always welcome on the channel, and this is important. I hear the sapphire thing all the time, and I don't understand this religion that sapphire is considered as the best, or why the majority have to lay heavy towards this? Now I've scratched sapphire on a few watches, and house bricks are good at this just to add... it doesn't scratch as badly as mineral. The thing with sapphire is that it's heavier and can shatter, whereas mineral cracks and stays complete... now if sapphire was that great, why isn't it used on smart phones? It's about the flex in the crystal, the more it flexes the more it can break, and with the surface area of a watch, you really need some bad luck... now I've not read that mineral is so bad that it's no longer used in the watch industry, and sapphire isn't expensive like it use to be, in fact some mineral crystals can cost more. Now it states that the LUMINOX I have is hardened and so far I've not got marks on it, and I've been overkill with it within reason. Now the Bear Grylls side, well this and having SWISS MADE has added some chunk to the price, but my point is to really try and understand the concept here, and until you have used one, you can't give any real facts apart from what you see and what others are saying. There's been many blogs with regards to fakes, and I feel these have gone into a few watch reviews without notice, a buddy of mine 'Avg. Joe Watch Reviews' had one and LUMINOX saw his unboxing video and said it wasn't genuine, so sent a replacement kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7t0gKR8pq3Znas.html This is just one case out of many. With the price point, even the GPR-B1000 is expensive, but when it comes down to the essentials, a watch is really something that isn't needed, in fact just a good knife is enough. The watch world has such a variation, and unless it's utter poop, then value and worth is only an issue if you're not a multimillionaire. I can flaw any watch if I wanted, I could rage into the Time Teller and be horrible and nasty, but my point is to show what a certain watch can offer with as much details as possible, and if it's not for you because of mineral crystal then that's mighty fine, and if like me think BOLEX watches are way over priced then all good in my neck of the woods, but this is the point, we are all different and have different needs... I'm still working on this watch, I need more time with it, but I get it, I'm not into Bear Grylls as I don't watch TV, so my aim was all about the watch and forget the marketing.... if it's made well and works as a reliable watch in survival conditions, then it's also going to be that do anything watch... sometimes I can't use my GPR-B1000 because it's too fat and big, so a more hugging watch is needed, just for time and to see that time day and night. It's like this watch needs a test run, as seeing the pictures isn't setting the realism like if it it's in the hand. The LUMINOX has a strong following, and would be nice to see them become something more with just their name to hand. I'm still wearing it, I can't seem to part with it, and it's so comfortable, and I mean it's like air on the wrist... I'm sure the fibre Composite makes you sweat less, or maybe it's the 'Genuine Rubber' LML :-P I will see if I can extend the user time, as I want to make a follow up video, for a decent amount of time, I don't want to flaff around with BS, when I test a watch, it's about really living with it... it's the side i'm more into with regards to details from a personal level, not from a guy who doesn't eat Bears. It's interesting for sure, and this could be one of the most challenging brands... I'm really wanting to try 'INVICTA' and see why the hate is there also? I really would like to know who is the trouble maker??? Btw, I like it, it has warmed to me, as before seeing Watch Geek review it, there was nothing pushing me. It's almost like when I wasn't sure about Garmin Fenix watches, but once I got one I can fully understand, these watches aren't cheap, and as of yet, CASIO EdiFice beat everything :)) Cheers again my friend and for being honest :)

I've continued wearing it and I've also been doing jobs inside and out including some mechanics, and it shows no signs of any marks. It's this side that convinces me, as the process to making a very high quality fibre composite has much involvement. I'm not sure what the properties are like say if it was a true diver's watch and was tested beyond 250mtrs? so maybe steel has better strengths there. It's an odd style of material to see on such a watch, and I agree with it looking cheap, but in the hand and under a loop, it's really well built. Some are moaning about the chosen movement being cheap, well i can only see the cheap being the price, and being that it's not a unique and over complicated movement, means it's fully serviceable, heck, you can even replace the movement... so all is very good when it has an expensive movement, but when it needs servicing or needs replacement parts, then it becomes a point of biting your wallet strings of throw it away?? There's so much more to this watch, and that's what I'm trying to live... most reviews are done with going really deep into the engineering side and to why it costs as much as it does... it does seem over priced, but the more I live the watch, the more I don't care... i'm not kidding, it's the most comfortable watch I've worn, and knowing why is something i'm working on, but the rubber strap isn't pulling my arm hairs, it's not making me sweat or itch, so to me this is a big thing.... anyway, more to come from this watch, and btw, I'm more into Ray Mears, mainly because fatter survivalists are finding food LML :-P

I know there's some pennies for Mr Bear, and that it's Swiss which goes with always being over priced, but what you can't fault it is its tough and how it looks after a good soak and back rub LML Those ribbons was from me about 3yrs ago for a trial I did, and was amazed they were still there, only placed a few at main turning points, but helped with the content. I ended up doing over 12km's during the filming and was out for the best part of the day.... ate some wild mushrooms too, very yummy ;) Cheers for your feedback and will look at your latest, btw, I have the bell icon on for your videos so am also on track ;) Cheers and HaPpY Sunday my friend!
